I agree. Still, Ash and Liara are much more similar to their ME1 counterparts than new femshep to old femshep. Liara changes are not that outrageous and I can still see Ashley despite that "hawt" hair and ridiculous miniskirt armor.Rosstoration wrote...

Old default female Shep was deemed not sexy enough, as was Ash and Liara, hence this was "fixed" in ME3.
how did femshep become a ginger?

Liara has gotten breast implants and some type of eye surgery since Mass Effect though.
I think Ash also started using some lighter foundation.

I can't think of a simpler way to explain my point. In my opinion, such fan-wanking is distracting, sexist, and it's not coherent with the rest of the game design. Full stop.
EDIT: PS: to all of you wondering why this is even a problem anymore, it's because the "canon FemShep face" is what the game shows to the rest of the world, it's how the "female main character" of Mass Effect is marketed and sold. And if BioWare sells a game with a hot redhead cosplay-girl on their cover, they are weakening the perception of women in the entire videogame world, a world full of "Juliet Starlings" and "Bayonettas" that certainly do not need more objectified female characters.
False analogy, there's no reason you should've linked pictures like that when we're talking about faces.
All you're saying is femshep shouldn't be pretty because she's a soldier. In your opinion that might be the case, but it's still sexist regardless.

Pretty, just not schoolgirl pretty is exactly what I'm trying to say.
Whatever... when you're on the internet and someone comes up with the words "sexism" and/or "homophobic", there is no way to end the conversation. It just goes on spinning forever , so I'll stop here. I've said what I wanted to say.

Exactly this. Giving that much choice to the fans was BioWare's worst choice in regards of ME3 marketing. The first game in the franchise to feature FemShep on the cover, and thanks to the so-called "geeks" instead of a proper Commander Shepard we got something from a "10 hottest cosplay at this year con" list.sharkboy421 wrote...
I had no idea they were related at all o.O. And also if you look at the default femshep in ME1 and 2 guess what. . .she is a red head with green eyes. Her ME3 incarnation is a bit more stylized than in 1 and 2, but femshep is still femshep.
Nope.
This is ME2 default Femshep:
Black hair, blue eyes (just like Sheploo).
ME3 Femshep is a completely different model, which features were (unfortunately) decided by the fans through an official poll.
As a male, I would just like to say that I preferred the ME2 femshep.

More on topic, femshep and maleshep aren't related. Alternate reality. They don't need to look anything alike. And her default hair colour has always been the same.

I like the current default femshep (though she's better with some mods), but the apparent age difference b/w her and Sheploo is pretty prevalent.

Lol I just think either of them would have done well as FemShep. Not because they look related to each other or to Mark Vanderloo, but because they're pretty attractive and have played military women on TV shows.

Who wouldn't? All that fiery red hair that accentuates their structure (especially the eyes). Rock Goddess Shepard in the Take Earth Back for example.
Unfortunately the in game version had something wrong happen in the translation from cinematic to game. Took away about ten years and turned her into a girl just going to college by the looks of it.

Because it never changed. Femshep, on the other hand, was changed in ME3 and the old model erased simply because Bioware/EA had "new artistic vision" and decided to alienate all those people who got used to ME1-ME2.aMytallica wrote...
I find it interesting that maleshep's appearance is never put under the same level of scrutiny as femshep is.
I can assure you, if maleshep was replaced by a handsome high-school football captain, those forums would explode.

I would explode for sure. I'm such a huge fan of how Mark Vanderloo (especially in the ME3 version of Sheploo) looks. He's a model, but sometimes he has kind of a sad, tired expression that gives Shepard a unique way to look "cool".
Here's what I'm talking about. It's like he doesn't needs expressions, he acts through his facial features alone and that translate very well in the game.
I would just loved something like that for Femshep too instead of Lola Bunny Red Passion.

@futurepixels: have you tried reading comprehension or basic logic? You cannot refute "ME1 default femShep is a redhead" with "ME2 default femShep isn't". If anything, they changed it after ME1 and reverted back to the original in ME3.
What's more, where did you get that image? Because that's not what you get when you pick default appearance when importing a ME1 save. So excuse me for calling bovine excrement.

Still doesn't look right. I mean, you can lift your couch since you already have enough muscles, but you can lift it easier and quicker if you had stronger muscles. Her facial features are okay though, I still don't know where Bioware wanted to go with her design. Model or soldier? You can't be both at the same time. She looks ugly as hell with the freckles and crunched face yet she has hair dangling about and her skin is clean as a whistle (if you go paragon/neutral.) She looks like Ronald Mc'Donald but she doesn't serve Chicken Mc'Nuggets.HolyAvenger wrote...

Use your imagination, think of the first female in that picture wearing a battle suit.
What he/she/it is trying to say is that Femshep looks like a model. While a real (male or female) soldier needs to have short hair, be muscular enough to do tasks and have communication skills. Apparently Femshep lacks 2 of those.
The thread was never about FemShep's body, for a start. It was about her facial features. Explicitly, its about the fact that red hair, freckles and green eyes meant that she was too feminine to be a believable soldier.
I will agree they could've muscled her up a bit more, but honestly given all the musculo-skeletar cybernetic enhancements she already has, its not really needed for "believability" reasons. In ME2 she goes firing shotguns that would break the arms of ordinary humans or use weapons that can otherwise be only used by robotic bodies.
I will agree with you though that this thread is stupid
