We'd like to do some updates to the toolset that may indirectly help with this request - I don't know if it will do exactly you're asking for though, and I don't really have an ETA at this point.

To be clear (and the OP isn't looking for this, but for the benefit of others) - the toolset will never be available to run on consoles. And the toolset will not produce content that works on consoles.

To set realistic expectations, our priority needs to remain on supporting the game first, then the current toolset, and then we can look at new toolset features etc.

If u don't want simplified gaming, get a PC for it. Console Development kits cost like 10k, so I dont think bioware can give you those compilers for free.

So we will never see any efforts on Bioware's part to bring community content to consoles? Is this a technical, financial or bureocratic decision?

Does it matter why? We've just had a dev state flat out that for whatever reason, consoles will never get a toolset. =]

There could possibly be a NWN premium module-like solution. That way the cost of testing, approval etc can be met by charging for the content. Xbox (and at the moment ps3) game owners would only get community content if it is submitted by Bioware/EA through the normal process. Then, as it is technically now Bioware/EA's content, it needs additional work to check that none of the stuff is plagarised or infringing 3rd party IP. I hear lawyers are expensive ;)

If you want the toolset, you have to get the PC version of the game. Just like if you want to use the cheat console you have to get the PC version of the game. Or if you want higher resolution textures. Or to edit your save games. Or to use nude mods.

Practical decision. Allowing pure community content on the console is not going to happen. The PSN and X-box LIVE make sure of that.

If they were to take certain community content, polish it, change it or HIRE the community creator into a group such as the DLA group for NWN, they could allow the community content to hit the consoles... And then it'd cost money, while it'd still be free on the PC.

I think the outcry of the players on consoles would be rather loud about that.

I never said that.  I said the public toolset we've released is not able to do this.  Image IPB

Your xbox 360 is for lolhalo and madden football. if u want to edit things, have user created content, and have a more complex gaming platform buy a pc. Dont like it? too bad. Go play lolhalo or buy a pc.

yes but those are just two games for xbox, personally im not to big on halo, i prefer CoD.
And to sound as narrowminded as you i could reply by saying go play diner dash or buy an xbox, but really thats not what this discussion is about now is it? So, please stay on topic or dont post, its as simple as that.

But i might point out that your suggesting that i need a pc for custom content, but the example you used (halo) is the number one game on xbox for creating custom content... sooo... maybe you proof read before you post next time...just a thought

There is hope!
Well... keep us updated on your progress and if you run into hard negotiations with Sony, do let the fans know: we will make sure to flood Sony with requests as we have done in the past!

I am also on PS3 now, and I have to say, "I want community content for my game." I'm not willing to hear excuses at this point. I really don't care about the secular, fanboy remarks from PC gamers. We all know why I don't have a cutting edge PC (use your imagination). But, I am getting tired of reading the rants about how consoles don't need, or deserve, or can operate a dev tool that any PC gamer can get for free from BioWare. My opinion is that it's either pure laziness, or corperate BS between BioWare and the console companies.

At the very least I think we could really use the player created content on console versions of this game. Even the ability to create the content on PC and export it to console would be so much better than just leaving us on consoles out to dry! Couldn't BioWare just bypass the console's proprietary DLC stores and have us be able to DL the content straight from the game via the menu screen? It could be implimented via a patch. I won't pretend to know how these things work legally, but I have seen similar features before. Anyway, I remain hopeful. Keep us updated on this situation BioWare!

Do try actually reading the thread. Then you'll know why it's not possible. :P

Wait.....what?

You basically said "I don't care about how programming works or about legalities.  Bioware owes me a toolset and reality is stupid."

Oh my goodness I can't believe this thread is still going. Yeah I mainly play Dragon Age on my PS3 only cause my PC is not a gaming PC. Yes Community content for consoles would be cool....if it were possible. But it's not gonna happen. There's programing issues and legal issues that just make it difficult for there to be community content for consoles. You can't expect the same treatment from a console as you would a PC.

True but looking now it seems that sony is very slowly moving towards having mods. So ps3 users keep your heads up we still might have a chance.Image IPB
