One of the things that really adds to replayability for me in SWTOR is the ability to get skins that change the appearance of your companions so that playing the same class for a second time can at least give you the appearance of having different people around you. As a bonus, if you really didn't like the appearance of one of your companions (I'm looking at you, Qyzen of the nasty eye) you could change it to something you like better.
Anyone else think that might be a fun feature for DA as well or would you prefer that your companion look like they look and be unchangeable without mods?

We already had something for that in DAO, it was called "armour customization."

I don't see a problem with it if we are talking about changing appearance within the confines of race, gender and other important factors. I think when you can change race of companions you are toying with the ability to have race, gender etc influence that characters persona.
You also need to think about whether a 'nasty eye' for example lends to the characters personality. Is changing it going to affect the way the player may view that person, and if so, will that cheapen the experience?
As long as those things are considered and its all purely cosmetic, I suppose it's ok?

Meh, sounds a little too much like a mindless action game thing to me, I prefer the normal customization or perhaps a few clothing changes depending on gifted attire to them.....
I would like for it to have some in-game reason at least, rather than just being random bonus content..

We're already confirmed for changeable armor for companions, if I'm not mistaken.

The customizations in SWTOR are all the appropriate genders and races for the companions, just changes to facial structure, skin color, and hair style. As for the lizard guy with the nasty eye, it was never mentioned or explained as far as I know and his warrior persona suffered not at all from restoring binocular vision, though cut scenes were a little less wince-inducing. This is purely a cosmetic question, for me.

I prefer having just armor customization. SWTOR's "skins" changed the character's ethnicity, hair, eye color, etc. To me, those things are part of what define a companion.

I loved being able to customize my companions' appearances in SWTOR and would gladly accept and utilize the option in any game henceforth. I think Malavai Quinn, Guss Tuno, and Akaavi Spar are the only companions whose initial appearances I didn't change. I especially loved the looks I chose for Risha, Corso, Vette, and Aric.

I'd prefer editing companions in the character creator rather than simple presets.
I'd take presets over nothing, however, - assuming that implemented presets wouldn't inhibit any other part of the game or development.
It seems there will be no toolset for DA3 so we will probably have to do it the annoying DA2 way again.

No. that would take away stuff from lore and the characters themselves. A characters looks is part of his personality. And it also says alot about the characters origins. Isabela and Merril both sticking out well in this case. If i had changed Merril into a human male, or whatever (just an example) the story would end up making no sense at all.

I think it would be fun to change appearances of companions - add a beard or a scar or a tatooo, maybe change a hairstyle or two... but I would tend to think not everyone would want/use that type of feature. I loved modding appearance for my pc version.
