In SP a group of Volus is refered to as Vol. Example: The Vol Protectorate.

Because that's the name of their government.  As they sometimes refer to themselves as "Vol-Clan".
The people themsevles are still volus. One volus is volus and three volus are volus.

Finally someone that's getting it right, thank you.

Yes, it's Vol. Not Voli and certainly not Voluses.

People should play the game they are talking about instead of halfassedly guessing around. I mean seriously, how many times do we have had this predicament on pural designations already?

Not "*sigh".

The designation of "Vol-[...]" is a socially evolved plural given to groups by way of their species evolving from a highly tribal society. It is highly likely that a society as tribal as that doesn't even casually deal in singular denominations as that would be the exception rather than the rule in such a social environment, in which case the question to what the plural of "Volus" is would be a false assumption based on egotistical perceptive paradigms from ourselves when in fact "Volus" already would be the etymologic plural of their culture with no socially accepted singular other than what would likely be a social slur used to label non-tribal people, aka outsiders with, making the whole question the following ...

Okay, the codex is wrong , and the people of the ME universe are wrong when they call the volus people volus, not "vol".
Got it.

If you didn't understand what I was saying then I wouldn't try retorting like that. I'll give you the short version: "Volus" is the name for their species as is "humanity" for humans. You don't see anbody quizzing about if it's "humanities" or not, now do you?

The volus are coming!
So lock up your daughter
Lock up your wife
Lock up your back door
And run for your life
The volus are back in town
So don't you mess them 'round

'Cause they're T.N.T. they're dynamite!
(T.N.T.) and they'll win the fight
(T.N.T.) they're a power load
(T.N.T.) watch them explode...*ahem*...

One never knows what deeper avenues will be opened by a simple question.

Very entertaining/illuminating. Now how do you feel about calling a few of them standing together an "avalanche of Volus?"

Or would you prefer "A Volanche?"

Everyone generally seems tempted to just add "I' to pluralize things unknown lol..
I would just say "Voluses"

or..for a group "Bubbles"

Ooh.  Hmm.

I like "Avalanche" better, but a "bubble of Volus" is tempting me to change my mind.

...is not proof it is vol in any way.

Vol is an adjective in the phrase The Vol Protectorate and adjectives are never plural so absolutely the one thing the plural cannot be is 'vol'. Consider these examples...

The American government but A group of Americans
The German team but A team of Germans

In fact, if you think The volus is the correct way to refer to them as a single species, it implies when talking about one of them we should be saying Vol not Volus.

A Canadian but The Canadians  therefore
A Vol but The Volus

Of course it might be very irregular in it's declination, but standard rules suggest Volus is plural and Vol is singular.

Have fun :)

 Very nice.

I'm am somewhat torn between An avalanche and A bubble too. An Avolanche of Volus gets it tho; too cute.

Have fun :)
