Human? Elves? Dwarves? Why only them?I hope to see companions of various types. Dragon Age is an RPG in a fantasy world and this can be possible.
Some examples:

The Lady of the Forest: forest spirit and can change to Witherfang shape.

Allure: a desire demon from DA2. She is in a Tevinter ruins.

Shale: a stone golem.

The Grand Oak: a sylvan.

Arishok: to represent Qunari race.

The Architect: a darkspawn emissary

With sure can be others spirits, demons, qunaris types and others beings. New ones too, why not? Maybe till a dragon :lol:What do you think?

Maybe because these things tend to have a hard time moving through your average Thedasion city without drawing undue attention?

Imagine a desire DEMON in the midst of Kirkwall. Would anyone NOT go apoplectic?

Well the desire demon can possess a body, like Justice.

I love special companions, they're usually my favourites too, because of their completely unique personalities, history and outlook: Shale, Justice, Legion, EDI (and possibly Javik), Wild Flower, Death's Hand.

It was a shame DA2 didn't have one. I suppose you could count Anders or even Fenris, but it's not really the same thing.

My companion list:
  • Desire demon: Cuz that's how I roll.
  • Darkspawn: Cuz they are spreaders of the Blight.
  • Wyvern: Cuz they're huge, deadly, and know simple tricks like playing dead, or rolling over.
  • Abomination: Not like completley taken over, but more like both the host and demon have come to agreement, so host is still in control of body.
  • The tree thingy(Forgot the name): Cuz trees give us oxygen to breath.
  • Other Animals: Cuz why should we be tied down to dogs?
  • Sarrebas: Cuz when you're a qunari mage, you're a bad***.:wizard:

First the lady of the forest could be dead.
Second Shale probably went to tevinter to get her Flesh back, mean she is probably a dwarf by now.
Third The gran oak already has what he wanted, hi's seed.. why leave the forest? and do you have any idea of how slow a huge tree walks? no? I thought so.
Forth Arishok could be sten from DAO.( rumors)
fifth having the Architect in the group is a very very bad idea, he carries the taint, the taint kills everyting around it and is one of the reason of why everyone in Thedas wants the darkspawns gone/killed/burned/destroyed. ( you can add more if you want)

The demon Allure could be summoned by a blood-mage but.. Da3 is about the inquisition battling demons, blood-mages and heretics, an Inquisitor summoning demons is.. a dumb idea, shouldn't the team of say inquisitor just kill the monster who summoned a demon?

I agree with you.

I thought in Saarebas too. Great idea!

Huntress
They are only examples of what we can see or hope to appears. It's not necessarily to be them.
Can be others golems, sylvans, qunaris, demons, spirits. :)

I prefer more normal companions than the really out there ones. Actually, the tendency for the whole party to be foreigners bugs me.

A talking darkspawn like the messenger imo would be a perfect companion.

When everyone is special, no one is.

Having unique companions like this would lose its appeal if it always happens, they would become annoying and eventually a joke, this is in addition to the harm it would do to the games lore if every single companion was this strange.

If your asking for a single unique companion and are simply offering a list of ideas to draw upon, then disregard, but you should be more clear as to what you are asking for if this is the case.

I'm sick and tired of spirits.

Waaah. I'm the one dimensional spirit of justice or whatever. Make me a sandwich. NO! I'm fed up. No more!

This. Demons could be interesting, however.

I am not talking about the whole party be compost with "stranger beings", maybe some.
It is to add some other cultures about Dragon Age beings. It's a chance to be more closer and not to stay only in that triangle (human - elf - dwarf). Characters from different ways of life.

Only an observation, nothing against someone here to be clear.
It is interesting here how people reclaim about only human race playable and when we start to talk about something different, they reclaim again.
No problem. But I understand the fear of changing old rules. :)

For some reason when I glance at 'special' I thought people meant companion that you might have to jump through hoops to get into your party. Or meet a requirment, like with Logian in the first game. I thought it would be neat if your choices in the pervious could snag you an extra companion...I guess sort of like paid dlc companions who just sit on the side if you want to use them without having to pay. Like maybe the Messager in DA:A if you let him live, or Anders. I'm pretty sure that would never ever happen, but I think it would be neat.
