So, archery. The use of bows and arrows.

In DAO, archery pretty much sucked, I think a lot of people will agree with me on that point.

In DA2 however, archery became quite viable. I went with a Rogue Archer in DA2 compared to my DAO Sword and Shield Warrior.

While in DA3 I may go with a Mage to round out the "try every class once" thing, I figured it couldn't hurt to ask the community-

What would you like Bioware to do with archery in DA3? Is anyone out there interested in archery like I am?(I am an archer myself) What could Bioware do to improve archery?

And before someone says it, yes.

Bowstrings.

I'm sure Bioware knows how the community feels about bowstrings. I'd like them, but I'm not screaming from the rooftops if they exclude them. Again.

But it WOULD be nice. Just sayin.

Anyway, do pitch in.

EDIT-

I want Crossbows back and Warriors to get Archery again.

Maybe make Crossbows exclusive to Warriors to make Archery for them feel unique?

Crossbows take skill to use, though the bow does a bit more of the work for the user compared to longbows. I could see the crossbow as a warrior-exclusive long range weapon.

I'm hoping archery will be a bit more realistic this time around.

Instead of pew pew pew, I'd love to see something more along the lines of slowly pulling back on the bowstring, breathing in, and letting go, like Duke Patrick's archery mod for Oblivion. It can do a lot of damage, but it should be easy to get interrupted by enemies.

Yeah, that would be hilarious to see before the PC gets absolutely annihilated. Unless the enemy stops to laugh first.

Wouldn't that require the game to be less action packed?

For example, in the new Tomb Raider game coming out in a couple of months, Lara can still use the bow in heated situations, but she does have to pull back the string and aim to fire. Just doesn't seem DA's style.

I like to be an archer and I hope to get great talents with a bow. :D

I think of DA2's archery as being similar to this real life technique of rapid fire archery.

I assume DA3's archery will follow suit.

If we do get Crossbows back, I'd like to see us get some Bianca styled Crossbows.

Apparently, Bianca wasn't the only one like it and were common enough that Fenris saw a random one in a store in Lowtown one time.

In Duke's mod, each arrow does a hell of a lot of damage, but this is balanced by the time it takes to draw the bow, and you can be interrupted.

The devs loved his mod so much, it was an inspiration for the Skyrim archery system.

Here's my question Sam- if warriors get crossbows, how could it be integrated into their play style?

I would love to have crossbows back. I tried playing as an archer in DA2, but I kind of just felt like a chump next to Varric with Bianca. It was never as cool and I wound up feeling like his sidekick. I usually play as a mage, so it's entirely likely that I was just doing it wrong... Or that it's just the natural way one should feel when made to compare oneself to Varric.

Bowtrings would be nice, and less choppy animations than DA2 had. Besides that, I think they've done a decent job with bows. Just balance them a bit better.

Playing a Ranged Tank would sound interesting to me. Thats how the Vanguard Advanced class for Troopers in SWTOR works, and it seems to work rather well.

Give it the same or similar abilities as rogue archery, but make the abilities slower to cast, and make general attacks to a bit more damage and make the abilities take a bit less energy.

One could also use a Crossbow to damage an opponent until they get close enough for a melee weapon, making them easier to kill and saving you some health for other enemies.

I can follow that logic. Sure.

What warriors need is gunswords get a hold of some of that Qunari black power slightly too advanced for Thedas at the minute but y'know once you reach the renaissance...

Bows have a proper niche role now they provide strong and powerful sniper-esque ness which saved my rogue hawke bacon a few times versus the horniest of horndogs. Would be nice to see strings but i'm not really sure how they could as a insular thing be improved besides a general across the board improvement to active abilities vs passives and the like.

I think it'd be interesting if some archery perks would be to have flaming arrows. As far as frost or shock arrows and other stuff, perhaps if it could be explained without saying, "My wizard friend did it"

I want archery to actualluy make mroe sense. Firng 4 arrows up into the ceilling and having them magically create 500 more arrows that rains down on my enemies was just...well it made me cringe, and I stopped using archers.

I used that rain of arrows thing a lot, as ridiculous as it looked. I agree its kind of nuts, but the thing is there's no real way for archers to engage more than one target at a time unless Bioware includes moves that require suspension of disbelief.

Abstraction much?

Archers needed something to atleast do something to massed crowds (though to be fair melee rogues could do with alittle love in this regard too!) unless they randomly sellotaped bombs to their arrows ain't much they can do about it.

At least there aren't any heat seeking arrows that will chase down enemies even around corners and such.

Patriot Arrows?

Also, I'm not sure Archery in DA:O was so terrible. With the right setup, I had Leliana do the most damage to a single target with the Arrow of Slaying than any other character.

In DAO I tried, I really did. I think I let Leliana do it, but there was no way I would.
