It's doable when you keep your melee fighters away from the hurting.

The way I'm seeing multi weapon use implented at the moment, is having (cross)bow use as a sustained ability for melee users. It's not exactly the weapon freedom ideal, but it fits the weapon restrictions model better.

A sustained ability?

I wonder how all the people here who asked for warrior-specific crossbows would feel about that.

Oh, here's something I was gonna bring up-

Would people rather have the quiver(thats where you have your arrows folks) be on a character's back, or would you have the quiver be to the side of a character's waist?

I don't really like the idea. I want to have a full archery skill tree, and see my character carry a Crossbow rather then a sword I never use.

Like I said, it's not ideal.  The ideal case involves warriors using bow skills and mages swinging greatswords. But it woud allow your SnS warrior to switch to ranged when you want him.

It would depend how many crowd control options are available to us.  In DAO, Mages were great at crowd control, but in DA2 you pretty much had to use Warriors.  If your Warriors are managing the crowd, it's pretty hard not to hit them with AoE attacks.

I liked having archery warriors in DAO, but Bioware might not want them to have a full skill tree. If Aveline is a better archer then Sebastian, it's nice but pretty arkward.

Though I probably won't play a warrior in DA3, this is what I'd prefer personally.

This could be solved by a return to Weapon slots. Have your melee weapon in one, and your ranged in the other.

Well, I imagine warriors in general would suffer from the FF Rain of Arrows. Since they're bound to get in close. It'd suck to have to pull them out just to use the ability and then bring them back in.

You know that would never happen. Bioware would likely limit squadmates so they'd better fit their character types.

But as far as the PC goes...

I liked how in Kingdoms of Amalur I could switch weapons on the fly. Literally at a moment's notice.

That can actually damage the limbs of a Take-Down Recurve or Longbow, it's much more efficient and less damaging to the bow if you use a bowstringer. You also shouldn't really be directly placing the string to the bow, you should be sliding it over the limb, that's really not a very safe picture.

As for cosmetic placement of the quiver, it would be wise to keep to the back-quiver as it's less likely to cause glitches with models/clipping.

As for archery in terms of game-play? I think the best way Bioware can improve it is to add viable "abilities" to use. Varric and Sebastian both had amazing skills for their personal trees, delivering on both sustained damage and also burst damage (Arrow of Judgement especially), yet Hawke has little to no utility or damage in comparison.

More abilities, of at least equal strength to those of our companions along with a slower, but more powerful, auto attack would be my personal preference.

(I'm lying, my personal preference would be Arcane Archer specialization for Mages)

Having a warrior archer and a Rogue archer wouldn't mean one was better then the other unless you made one better then the other. Story wise, they're still wouldn't be a better acher. We don't know if Varric or Sebastian is the better shot. for example.

Though I can kinda see where you're coming from.

While weapon slots are vastly better than the DA2 solution of simply not having any quick means to switch weapons, DAO's weapon slots were but a pale imitation of how NWN let us equip weapons and shields directly from ordinary quickslots.

If there was any sort of Arcane Archer class specialization, I'd probably go with that. So Mage, finally.

Exactly. That is why they won't equip your warior with a full bow and all its benefits. Talis had a ranged weapon on the side, however. She didn't have skils with it or anything fancy, but she did get more versitile. If your rouge gets throwing knives, your knight might as well have a crossbow hanging around somewhere.

I really hope I live to see the day when Swords and Shields don't magically stick on the back without anything attached to them.

And that they won't vanish when I switch to the bow/whatever.

I never understood why Apostates didn't use Bows. They could use spells to empower their arrows in case they needed to defend themselves. Much mre subtle and discreet then a staff.

I just found it very briefly on google images, figured the smile would make it cute. I'm sure there's a link associated with it somewhere, I just typed "Bowstrings" on google images so :P

That unfortunately DID happen in Amalur. You could switch weapon types with a single button press but then your previous weapon would disappear into thin air.

Hmm, that is a thought. They'd have to dress differently though. Mage robes don't exactly make for good archery gear.

Yeah. apostates aren't the most skilled in blending in.
