Crossbows take skill to use, though the bow does a bit more of the work for the user compared to longbows. I could see the crossbow as a warrior-exclusive long range weapon.

Crossbows actually take far less skill to use than bows do. Which is why I could see it as being a warrior class alternative because all you need is the strength to **** the crossbow, from there it's point and shoot like a gun.

In DAO I tried, I really did. I think I let Leliana do it, but there was no way I would.

My Canon Warden used nothing but a Crossbow the enitre game.

It was Harrowing.

How can you say that OP. Can you imagine a game that shares the engine as the most graphically impressive game, without a feature from the last decade?

Anyway I hope the player gets to aim for herself but I don't see that happening.

Believe it or not, pointing and shooting a gun takes skill. Quite a bit of it in fact. As does pointing and firing a crossbow.

If it was as easy as you're making it sound, anybody could do it.

Anyway, aiming would require combat to be slowed down quite a bit. Perhaps even a PoV change. Not third to first drastic, but a different camera angle I mean. It could work as it is now, but it wouldn't look as good.

I feel like sniping in Skyrim has poisoned me forever.

Hah, archery is my main method of attack in Skyrim. I used my Daedric Bow for the longest time, then switched to the Bound Bow just because it looks super cool and is a conjured Daedric Bow anyway.

Awesome stuff in that game.

Ooh, something that looks like Skyrim's Bound Bow in DA3 would be mint!

Well it doesn't have to be sniping drastic, definitely no bolloxs like headshots. Just some interactivity would be nice instead of "do this, do that"

I'm also an archer and I usually play archers in games.  Adding in the bowstring would certainly please me, but I wouldn't be upset if they left it out again.  I usually stay zoomed out, so I probably wouldn't even see them.  I'm biased, but I would love to see a ranger class all on its own! :P  Highly doubt that would ever happen, but I would rather not share a talent tree with rogues.  I love the stealthy side of rogues, but all duel-wielding talents are pretty much ignored.  I would like some more choices for my archers.

Also, I'm not sure Archery in DA:O was so terrible. With the right setup, I had Leliana do the most damage to a single target with the Arrow of Slaying than any other character.

I never managed to use archery right. I got arrow of slaying to do about 250 or so but it's cooldown was so long that it was just outpaced by mages DPS wise.

I bet almost 100% they will carbon copy Kingdoms of Amalur.

I didn't like the archery in that game, so I used other weapons. Chakrams specifically for the longer range stuff.

I want archery to actualluy make mroe sense. Firng 4 arrows up into the ceilling and having them magically create 500 more arrows that rains down on my enemies was just...well it made me cringe, and I stopped using archers.

Abstraction much?

Archers needed something to atleast do something to massed crowds (though to be fair melee rogues could do with alittle love in this regard too!) unless they randomly sellotaped bombs to their arrows ain't much they can do about it.

Explosive arrows would do that trick. Besides, 1 bow isn`t a crowd control weapon to begin with.

I wonder how Bioware would explain the explosive arrows though. Probably wouldn't be too hard, its not like rogues would use qunari gunpowder or anything like that, but there's probably something they could come up with.

I usually luv being an archer in a video game. In DA3 I hope bowing is simple and effective. Maybe with a ranger pet.

If we get to have a pet along, it shouldn't be hard to roleplay the hunter.

Origins to me had great Sword/Shield Warriors, the attacks were powerful, when you bashed someone it felt like their bones were breaking but if you did it to say a golem it felt like the shield might bend or be dented...at least in my experience.

DA2 made mages epic to me where they were kind of meh in Origins, I could never get to far with a mage, just lost interest. Mages were over the top in this game, but it made you feel powerful, unfortunately I felt like the Sword/Shield Warrior lost some of it's power that it had in Origins..

For DA3 I want them to make archery king or at least Rogues. They haven't been bad, but I'd like them to really shine this time around, make archery super fun and I'll be set otherwise I might have play a mage or warrior again and I really really want to play a rogue.
