So this thread is about bowstrings? OK.

I'd love all classes to get ranged options, and that they'll include thrown weapons like axes. A ranged medival tank is an oxymoron: if your archers were being trounced by knights it usually means you lost.

Cosidering archery got special attention (equal to mage combat) in DA2, adnvastly improved over DA:O (visually), I think saying it sucked is kind of a low blow, OP. That being sayed, how does one get into archery ? I thought about picking it up as a hobby.

Nah, but the lack of bowstrings does suck. Hard.

And archery could've been a lot better in DA2. Had definite room for improvement.

Edit-

For example, I just got to thinking about Tomb Raider and how DA could use an ability that causes the archer to shoot a rope arrow that brings an enemy of up to a particular size/weight closer to them.

everything always has room for improvement and archery in da2 was a hell of a improvement for archery in DAO, probably one of my fav n fun specs to play actually

Yeah, it was fun in DA2. Which is why I'm hoping they move it forward rather than backward in DA3.

Would be interesting if Warriors and Rogues had separate trees for archery skills though I wouldn't see the point nor can I fathom how they would differ

Perhaps warriors would have a tree based on yeah nope can't do it

It really depend how archery is represented in the game and what the rogue and warrior roles cover in world of the game.

Basically is Robin Hood a rogue or warrior, what about the English common archer or the archer de maison? or what about the byzantine cataphract or the heavy armoured mounted archer of  the Mongols,Seljuk etc.

Personally I think the tree should be the same for both and that the difference between the two classes should not be talent tree based on  weapon specific talents.

It's perfectly possible, simply create one that is defensive and one that is not.

Defensive - The majority of damage comes from sustained damage, auras and auto attacks, but it has a select few abilities that deliver high burst damage. Also has access to evasive maneuvers that make it a bugger to catch - I like to call this "The Sebastian Method".

Offensive - Extremely devastating ability damage, but it's difficult to sustain due to stamina depletion. It has less evasive maneuvers, making it more vulnerable to assault - This one I like to call "The Varric Method".

Sustained vs Burst.
Defensive vs Offensive.
Pain in the Arse vs Glass Cannon.

As to why it would/should be done? Offering a different play-style to a specialization is never a bad thing. I don't like Archers as they currently are, I find them terribly boring because all I'm really doing is sitting on the sidelines auto attacking things until the die. And, on the off-chance I actually get aggro, I just pop one of my 5 million defensive abilities in order to evade the enemy.

I like Archery that is straight up offensive. I like to have abilities that deliver devastating attacks with damage similar to my melee counterparts. I don't want to just stack auras and sit there staring at my auto attack animations. It's just not fun...

Give me the option to play with some truly devastating assaults. Gimp me on defensive maneuvers if you must, make me a glass canon that drops the moment a gnat pokes my ankle, but Tyr Almighty - Just give me something that actually puts out some proper ability damage.

Two things.

1. Bow strings. Seriously.
2. Unique bows that are visually interesting.

Yeah, the lack of bowstrings is super offputting.

As for unique bow designs, I posted the exact one you linked to earlier. Skyrim did a good job with unique bow designs. :)

Unique? Sure. Practical? No.

That's the thing that Bethesda got right with Skyrim. The bows not only look unique, but they also look practical.

Did the Predator give him that bow for his birthday? lol.

I don't think Bioware cares much for practicality for certain subjects

i.e. bowstrings

and greatsword hilts too. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the new pc swinging around an elephant's femur bone.

Or hope that Bioware gets that not having bowstrings is kinda ridiculous
