Well, the DAO PC for marketing was a warrior, the DA2 PC for marketing was a mage, so why not an archer rogue for DA3's marketing?
That's what I'm hoping for. This game is supposed to be all about discovering plots and spy games and such...why not have an assassin like rogue? Archer would be a nice bonus, but if they were a dagger rogue that would be fine. I just want to have tried them all out

Btw, the trick for archery in dao is to have yourself and 2 others as rogue bards. All have to have the song that boosts crit chance on (it stacks). and the dog, shale or alistair for aggro.

I think the thing that Bioware should focus on with bow and arrow is range and stealth for bow and arrow rogues
The moment you come on to a screen and your not stealth and your with a party, they spot you and they rush you or fire at you with ranged weapons
What needs to happen with bows is a first strike capability. The ability to hit from far enough away so that you have an advantage.
or an ability for rogues that let them shoot bows (normal attack) from stealth and have them not break stealth in a certain percentage.

At least if I could get the first shot off in an encounter and not trigger a bunch of waves, I'd see it as an improvement.

I have no problem with it.

Archery was incredibly overpowered in Awakening because of one skill: Accuracy. It gets even worse if you are a Spirit Warrior Archer with Beyond the Veil and Soulbrand wearing +spirit damage gear. In vanilla DA, it's mostly a matter of stacking as many speed bonuses as possible and never using any abilities except Arrow of Slaying. In Exile wrote...
I never managed to use archery right. I got arrow of slaying to do about 250 or so but it's cooldown was so long that it was just outpaced by mages DPS wise.Fast Jimmy wrote...
Also, I'm not sure Archery in DA:O was so terrible. With the right setup, I had Leliana do the most damage to a single target with the Arrow of Slaying than any other character.
Anyway, another real life archer here, and honestly, the one thing that I'd like to see them do with archery in DA:I is actually make active archery talents for the PC that don't suck (I found it very annoying that both Varric and Sebastian had good archery talents that I couldn't access.) In DA and DA2, you're best off just auto-attacking except for a very few skills with long cooldowns. I like playing an archer (my first playthroughs of DA and DA2 were both rogue archers) but I'd like it to be as active as playing a dual-wield rogue in DA2 or a two-handed warrior in DA.
Oh...and the lack of bowstrings doesn't really bother me.

Might convince me to choose a rogue again instead of a mage.

I don't count DA:A precisely because of accuracy. But then you can just have your acher be an auto-attack beast.

Haste, you mean, and rapid shot? Huh. I'll research builds. It'll be fun!

Bowstrings would be nice...
If crossbows return, they should be specific to warriors IMO.
My pet peeve in DA2 was that when it came to close combat, my archer would pull out generic daggers instead of the really awesome daggers I already had in my inventory. Fix that BW please

I LOVE ARCHERS!!! My canon Warden is an archer, and I have several archer Hawke's, and I'm currently playing a wood elf stealthy archer in Skyrim, so yeah. ARCHERS!!

Bioware should never of removed the weapon switch button that was in Origins, and it should of been that your warrior could of equipped a bow even if he was useless with it.

What I'd like to see is more variety in ranged weaponry by adding crossbows and, possibly, handcrossbows like the one the Duke in MotA used.

Anyway, I dunno if crossbow pistols should be a weapon in the game.

You mean crossbow pistols? Which really aren't pistols at all, just miniature crossbows you can aim and fire with one hand.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about.
And they're already a weapon as shown in MotA. You could potentialy use them to create a hybrid tree for the rogue, which gives you a combination of ranged and melee attacks, but at the cost of making tem weaker than the ones from dw rogue or an archer.

So I guess if they felt the need to incorporate a weapon like that, why not? As you said, its already there. *I wouldn't know, I didn't play the DLC*

Works for me. It wouldn't surprise me if this is the route they go in either.

Not saying it's not a cool idea, a character with ranged and melee abilities could have loads of utilities, but I'd hope you could toggle between ranged and melee auto-attacks at will this time.
