I'd like to start seeing same sex relationships displayed visually in the game world. I'm not speaking of player-centric encounters but Npcs in s/s relationships of their own volition populating the world.

The last two games have only shown man/wife in this regard, which made me feel pretty isolated as there weren't others in s/s relationships like me around. Well there was Bran in mota but he was with a *ehem* professional, so that doesn't count. I'd like to see wife/wife, Husband/Husband in the market places tenderly buying orlesian silks together, having arguments, being affectionate with each-other or walking around town together, like the m/f couple npcs.

Note
: Please leave all Anti-gay views & prejudice out of this thread, thx.

Yes. In my opinion, gay or bi folks should be treated as regular people, not as somebody wildly different from a straight person. That would be really progressive of BioWare if they did that, and not just in a "You can be gay... cool," kind of way.

Do we know how these people are viewed by the general populace in Thedas?

The original discussion of sexuality and marriage and such was in the old DA boards which I don't think exist anymore, this is summed up as I thought more was discussed on the old boards.

 ^ I read somewhere that, while they're viewed as odd and different, they're not viewed as evil nor unequal.

Hmm, depends. It seems to me that, in Thedas, marriage is much more of a business transaction than a proof of love, as we would probably consider it. As such, I'm not sure if it would make sense, thematically speaking, for people of the same sex to marry.

Frankly, I just want to see more same sex NPC couples. I don't care if they are married or not.

Edit: A few typos that changed the meaning of my post.

Hmmm is the medieval setting feel right for same sex couples? What's the chantry view of same sex releationships? Bioware hasn't been shy in allowing female equality and leadership roles so I don't see why not same sex relationships.

Support. I think that'd be cool.

Wasn't it confirmed that Wade and the Shopkeeper were a homosexual couple?

I mean, I don't really recall all that many relationships in the Dragon Age series. It's never really been at the forefront.

Oh, and Anders & Karl?

Neh, we would've never known wade and herron were a couple if gaider hadn't confirmed it, as they gave no inkling they were anything more than business partners. Anders telling you about karl is a player-centric event.

Emzey does have a good idea here. Background appearances of couples, both hetero and homosexual, would be excellent. Would be nice to see a couple of men or a couple of women holding each other's hands. Perhaps some would have some background dialogue just to confirm it. I think it'd add to the game quite nicely.

Wonderful, thanks for that! I'd had no idea.

As for a post above, I think more people like Wade would be great. They don't have to outright express their sexuality (because nobody in Thedas seems to do that, barring maybe Isabela.) It would make the world more lively though and I'm all for the suggestion.

Cool.

Shouldnt be common place tho, Homosexuality is not as common place as Heterosexuality, if it were procreation rates would be extremely lower. Wade and Herren were an awsome couple, but let' s not go overboard in the sense that Homosexuality should be displayed just as regularly as Heterosexuality, ala for every Hetero Couple there should be a ****** couple in regards to NPC' s.

Did you forget about Wade and Herren?

Or Branka and Hespith and Leliana and Marjolaine

Or Anders and Karl or Ashaad and Seamus (if you squint)

Might be more relevant to ask for a non-doomed same-sex couple.

Wasn't it heavily implied Reverand Mother Dorothea... aka the current Divine Justinia V was seduced by Marjolaine and her "left hand" Leliana was also romantically involved with the same woman.

I'm pretty sure its safe to say the chantry doesn't disapprove same sex relationships.

I'm talking about real relationships, not this cloak and dagger you're listing.

Wade & herren gave no inkling in game they were lovers.

Branka was a married woman and hespith was her lover on the side.

Leliana and marjolaine were... Idk. I think relationship is too strong a term for them as they both messed around with other people.

Anders & karl is player-centric.

There just must be an abundance of "real" heterosexual relationships in Dragon Age then shouldn't there

oh wait

I like to think that Bran and Serendipity are in a real relationship. He will ask her hand in marriage and everybody from the Rose will be invited to the cerimony, where they will proceed to party all night.

No NPCs do this, heterosexual or otherwise.

Indeed, off the top of my head... redcliffe is full of npc husbands and wives.

Arlessa isolde and arl eamon

Diamond quarter during the noble dwarf origin

Harrowmonts wife

The city elf origin couple that gives you a wedding gift.

The city elf couple who you can choose to aid in keeping their home.

Camon and gheyna.

That definition... pretty much invalidates any romance from being a "relationship" if the player visits the rose or the pearl or has a threesome, or is romancing Isabela...

That being said Leliana makes it pretty obvious she was in a relationship with Marjolaine by her standards.

But Anders and Karl are too player-centric? Camen and Gheyna would not be together if not for the Warden.

This is another Emzam makes up ridiculous criteria in order for any example to fit her custom, narrow definition of something isn't it.

Incorrect, there is a couple in the diamond quarter of the noble dwarf origin arguing about armor. Cammon &gheyna, Isolde & eamon and the de launcets are affectionate with each-other. You can just step into kirkwall hightown to see couples walking around together.
