It's not in game tho. If the player never plays a male hawke, they'd never have knowledge of the relationship making it non-existent.

O rly? Please give me one instance in origins where wade & herren give off the smallest hint that they're a couple.

Why would they need to go through lengths to prove they are a couple to the player?

At any rate, Word of God is that they are a couple.

Really? I got absolutely nothing from that in game.

I just thought it was Herron having to put up with an eccentric boss.

I don't care if they're gay one way or another, but the writers shouldn't have to come on the forums to elaborate.

Intuitive much? As soon as I heard them talking to each other like an old married couple I knew. That and the fact that Herron is able to keep you from purchasing any more from his "boss" didn't give you a clue?

Because they're basically hiding it.

Two characters working together is quite different from two characters sleeping together.

Not getting all the information in game, and instead having to find random forum posts/twitter posts to explain what happend is an annoying thing that BW does.

Why does the PC need to know the personal lives of everyone they run across?

Any canon information you get about any place, character or thing should be attained in-game. We shouldn't have to also read through forum posts and blogs to get other canon information.

So no comics, books, movies, artbooks?

I already addressed that in an earlier post with regards to forum posts/twitter posts.
I basically said "I have no problem with Wade and Herron being gay, I just think we should have found out in game rather than having to stumble across a forum post".

Mother of God, BSN.

Really? you got old married couple from herren prodding wade to finish the shops orders? Right. If it were that intuitive, there wouldn't be a multitude of threads on the subject and they wouldn't need notes in their bios confirming they were in a relationship.

What possible difference could it make if they are a couple or not?

Does no one read the thread? Wade & herren were listed as examples of visually gay couples in regards to the op stating there weren't any. The debate aside from where rinji is trying to take it, is that they are not in fact discernable without dev acknowledgement.

This is an impossible standard.

A more reasonable standard should be, "Any information you need about a place, character, or thing, to understand the story of a game should be attainable in-game."

Extra information, canon or not, can be provided through any source.   Because it's extra, and it is only relevant to those who seek it out.  If you do not seek it out, it need not be relevant because the game has all the information you need.

Likewise, if someone quotes extra information to you in a discussion, there's nothing stopping you from stopping them and saying that you are only interested in information from the games themselves.

How would you like them to be "discernable"? Do they need great big floating labels over their heads? How would a straight couple be "discernable"? Is it sufficient for them to live or work together, or engage in friendly banter? Do they need labels too?

My point, insomuch as I have one, is that it could not matter less if they are a couple, in the same way as it could not matter less if Mr and Mrs Noble, shopping at a fabric stall at the market, or Ms and Ms Elf, sitting round the fire in the Dalish camp, are couples.

Asking for couples, straight, gay or otherwise, to be specifically "discernable" is (IMO) asking to propagate stereotypes of how a couple (again; straight, gay or otherwise) should look and/or behave.

If they aren't Tom of Finland figures holding hands at a Pride Parade, it's not discernibly gay.

******/bi - sexuality is supposed to be rarer than heterosexuality in Thedas, but not too rare. So it'd be nice to see some non PC same gender relationships.

I had no idea Wade and Herren were supposed to be together, but it seemed so obvious on subsequent playthroughs once I knew. Well done to whoever wrote those two.

But they also have to say they're in a stable monogamous relationship or else there's a possibility they're straight.

There's enough same-sex relationships and references as it is. Having half the NPCs being ******-sexual would be completely unrealistic and bothersome. As is making everyone a bi-sexual.
In other words it should have the analogies of real life, else it will feel forced and "fake".
Realistic for our own world, yes. Realistic for Thedas, we have no idea. There could be dozens of homosexuals among all of the NPCs we have encountered over the course of both games, they just don't advertise it, in the way that straight people don't generally advertise that. You may assume that the average person you meet in Dragon Age is straight, whether that is because you are straight or because the majority are straight in real life. Without them telling you so or otherwise indicating their preference, you have no idea and it remains an assumption.

so now that youve given then supposition that there could be dozens of homsexuals among existing npcs who dont advertise it, what' s the deal here?

This answers your post. The latter half of your post is just making the thread idea much more than it needs to be.

Maybe they hold each other's hands as they walk.

Maybe one gives the other a quick kiss.

Maybe you overhear them talking in the background as you walk by.

Y'know, the middle-ground.

I don't like it when a minority asks to be catered to. Especially about something so meaningless.

Oh look, straight privilege!
Gotta love it when that happens.
