That is not true. They understand organics just fine, they just aren't like organics. They know what the concept of fear or anger is, they know how it affects humans and what it can cause, they just don't feel it. They don't have to gain emotions to understand us, they have to gain emotions if they want to emmulate us - that's a pretty big difference and in my opinion the point Chris was trying to make

Exactly.

In terms of evolving to something greater, they can already do that. There's no need for them to emulate emotions beyond trying to be more like organics, which is a rather flawed choice in my opinion, since organics' emotions are flawed. They're making them behave irrationally at times, while the machines are operating on the more logical choice. They'd only lose on trying to level with the organics.

Same goes for understanding the deeper meaning behind the emotions. They have little to nothing to gain on it. It'd simply be more information to consider at best.

For a character like Data, it makes sense for him to trying to be more human and understand emotions, since he's an android. EDI is not. The geth are not. It'd do nothing to serve their purpose in life and they already know what that is.

It could be said that Jack's tattos contributed to her story. What comes to Samara's cleavage and increased cup size of Liara, I really don't see how they improved anything. They were added to make game look more appealing, easier to sell to people who can't/won't have access to non-polygon stuff.

Hole in Legion made it look like platform were went through some rough places. According to E'Toile idea for that and N7 patch came from...

Yes, I agree that some appearances can be connected to a story, but I don't think it contributes much, since I believe more in showing instead of telling.

It's important to remember that IIRC when Christina Norman brought her frustration to board, she weren't defending her work, other than approving designs, she was defending choises of graphics dept.

L'Etoile had has certain idea about AI's, Geth and Legion. Graphics dept then created concepts of Legion, they introduced N7 patch in character design, because they thought it would look cool. Then somebody, again not E'Toile, got a great idea from that. Let's make Legion obsessed with Shepard, regardless if it makes any sense in established settings.

I'd say that has more to do with poor communication than the snowball effect.

If it seems like emotion is it emotion? The scale of the geth's reaction to the quarians sounds rather like panic and lashing back. Also, without emotion there's no motivation to do anything other than simply sit there. Emotions might provoke irrational actions but they also provide drives.

His name is L'Etoile, not E'Toile.
L'Etoile means The Star.
(no provocation intended, i just think that names are important, especialy when you want to comment on their work)

Except matrix structure of BW didn't leave much room to poor communications.

I don't know. We sure like to critisise Mac Walters here but could there be other perspective to his work?

If someone in company say. Hey, we have that contract with Tricia Helfer, she sure is hot and sci-fi nerds remember her from new BSG. We won't be wasting this potentia, expand her role. Some of the writers may say that it's not that simple, only answer that they get is: Make it work.

Somebody, not necessarily lead writer, sees Cerberus much better enemy than Reapers from marketing point of view and they should have bigger role in ME3, Walters makes it happen. Mac Walters may not be very liked here but internally he may be like gift from heaven. Problems with artistic vision and ideas from higher ups, graphics, dept, what ever, no worries, Mac can make those things disappear, he makes things work. Internally everything appears to work very well.

Then for the end user final product may not appear to be that great, but hey, everything was very committed and gave everything they could. Some of the leads were maybe even so professional that they don't play any games anymore. Really, nobody could forsee see how this could go wrong.

Not in all cases. The geth were far from idle and they merely wanted to fulfill what they believed to be their goal in life. To become one mind.

Which is also rather contradicted in ME3 when I think of it, considering that there they wanted to become individuals rather than to be able to share their information with each other all at once.

This is interesting, but he also acknoledges that his vision of what he imagined certain AI's to be like wasn't actually present in the series. Generally nothing happens in ME3 that contradicts what he says.

These posts pretty much rule out the Destroy and Synthesis choices for me. Both choices contribute to the racism against synthetics. Destroy kills them, and Synthesis forces emotions on them.

Not so fast. Yes, the consequences of Destroy are horrible, but future synthetics will be free of the Reapers (and they also won't have to bow to the ultimate "master", AI-Shep).

The posts are interesting, but they don't magically make any ending option not suck.

He wrote my waifu in ME1, and wasn't involved in ME3. So for anyone wondering why Ashley's character had a big drop in quality during ME3, there ya go.

ME3 needed Chris. I wondered why his characters were behaving so 2 dimensionally and seemed to forget their past development. Thane and Ash used to be favourites of mine *sad face*

A thought just occured. The Geth are advanced AI and are subject to self-evolution. Could that have to do something with this new sense of purpose?

This is all really interesting.

It's a shame his harder approach to science in the series sorta went out the window for ME3. In fact, a lot of what he wrote in ME2 seemed to be discarded.

I wanted to treat AI with more respect than the tired Pinocchio "I want
to be a Real Boy" cliches of Commander Data. The geth are machines.
There's absolutely no reason they should want to be organics. They
should be allowed to be strong enough to want to better themselves, not
change themselves.

That is fantastic.
I really would have loved to have seen the development of EDI and the geth if this had been the case.

This post just makes me sad that he wasn't involved with the last game of the series.

Do they? I don't see how being synthetic gets you around those existential questions.

Sounds about right. The geth consensus mission is right in line with what he's saying. Don't know about synthesis or the reaper upgrades, but they don't really contradict his version of the geth considering the alternatives...

The direction they took with the Geth in ME3 was appalling. In ME2 they were so alien and then they had to try to humanize them, because why the hell not?

It doesn't. EDI display emotions in ME2, he even mentions this, and the Geth want each Geth to become individuals, they show very little interest in emotions.

Nothing happens that contradicts what he said.

The Geth in ME2 did not want to be individuals. In fact, they wanted to upload themselves into one big space sphere so that way they would "never be alone."
