Because there is nothing going on beyond Shepard's field of view. Liara organizes a network of information and gathers resources for the crucible, that even if it is a contrived big ass plot device from a meta-perspective, it's damn useful. Samantha is a signal specialist, tracking communication and that sort of things is her job.
Liara gets one shipment of platinum and suddenly she's the the galaxies biggest hope....
You sure you're not just letting bias talk?
Put logic and reason back on the line, please.
Alright.
She is incompetent as shadow broker throughout 90% of the game. She gets one shipload of platinum to the Crucible and recruits some scientists, maybe.
I already told you bias, I want to talk to logic and reason, hand the phone over.
We've been over this already. Using a little common sense, it should be easy to deduce that delivering some platinum to the Crucible isn't the only thing she does, but you aren't using any. You don't like Liara's character, so you're letting bias talk for you.
Even ignoring what she does to help build the Crucible, you're still ignoring the fact that she's already used the network's resources and her own knowledge of the Protheans to make sure there's even a Crucible to help build. The galaxy would be quite literally doomed without that.
I have nothing against Traynor, I actually like speaking with her because her voice-acting and dialogue are both quite good, and she offers kind of a unique perspective being new to the story, talking about the old-days with Garrus can get tiring, but I haven't the foggiest idea how Traynor helping EDI that one time, and actually doing her job well enough as a communications specialist means she'd be a better Shadow Broker that the asari who spent two years learning how to do that job.
