First talking about singleplayer here.

So I bought Serious Sam 3: BFE a while ago and started playing it now (XCOM: Enemy Unknown and replaying ME 3 with Javik for the first time kept me busy) and it's awesome. Love the music, love that I can rip enemies apart with guns or my own hands, love to smash them, loving it EXTRA much that there's freedom and I can run around searching for secrets, love that there's health packs and armour, love the oneliners and the "not taking itself serious" tone of the game, pun not intended.

So as you can tell, I pretty much love this game, it's a return to the old school.

So out of curiousity I check what it scored, and wow... 6.0 on gamespot, at least IGN gave it a 7.0, the funny thing is on the gamespot, they call the weapons not very inventive, that the gameplay gets tame and bland and that the campaign is too long, yet the same reviewers gives Modern Warfare 3 8,5.

So on one hand we got a game that's on rails, constant scripted events and cutscenes and interupts people with a story no one really cares about, two weapon carry limit, death by leaving the "combat zone" (translation = we [developers] want you to follow one strict line and you're not allowed to go your own way to kill the enemy.) and all that stuff that I can't wrap my head around why it's there. Compare that to Serious Sam 3

The **** is this ****?

I know, I know, big budget games from big publishers rarely get anything lower than 8 by the big sites for reasons that's been discussed numerous times (cue fan boy to argue otherwise).

So what games have you been enjoying that the "expert" critics scored low on?

Precursors... it's a open-ended FPS with gigantic maps and you can drive in tons of different veichles around. It has space travel and dogfighting between systems (and inside systems in an upgradeabel spaceship). With some more funds and polish it would have been uber-amazing.

Conquest: Fronteer Wars... very innovative game with great AI (for admirals in multi or skirmish), with a logistical and strategic layer.

DNF - I liked it.

What's considered low? Like under 60 or under 3 stars or 3/5? I think anything over 60 is a pretty good game and not considered mediocre or derivative. Also what are we using as a example of a low score as no 2 reviewers/editors are the same. One reviewer might give a game a 4/5 and another might give a 7/10 or a 64 out of 100.

I'm just gonna stick to aggregate scores sites like Metacritic.

Also I admit I don't play a lot of bad games cause I do my due diligence and research before I buy games. But some either slip through the cracks or I pick up on a good sales and they surprise me.

Aegis Wing (360) -- 58 out of 100. The game is free for pity sake and I had a blast playing it. Plus it's 4 player co-op. One of my fave side scrolling shooters of all time.

Scene It? Bright Lights! Big Screen! (360) -- 54 out of 100 -- Good party/parlour game. The prequels to it scored better and while I agree the newest one was the weakest one it was still a very fun trivia game to play with friends.

Unbound Saga (360) -- 51 out of 100. It was actually a pretty good beat 'em up. I got it on a XBLA sale for like 160 points and although I would've felt cheated if I spent more it was still a fun game and I got all the achievements in it so if it kept me around that long it must've been pretty good.

Terminator Salvation (360) -- 47 out of 100. I admit this was a pretty bad game. But thankfully I didn't pay full price for it. I got it in a bargain bin and while the gameplay isn't very complex and the game itself is short it was a good ride and I had fun playing it co-op and cranking out the full 1000 points achievements on it in one day.

Dark Void (360) -- 59 out of 100 I liked the Jet packs in it and it was a pretty decent yet derivative 3rd person shooter. I'd rate it a bit higher than a 59.

Skelter beat me to it.

Though I hardly consider it the cornucopia of games, Phantasmagoria was a very macabre(even if poorly acted) game that tried to build a live-action adventure, and was mildly successful to that point.

The Darkness got a relatively low score for its quality, which I felt was more in the 8.75-9.25 range. It's one of my favorite games to date.

It seems Super Mario Bros 2. is oft viewed as the Black Sheep of the series(or perhaps that's Sunshine?), but I enjoyed it on the same bar as 3 and World.

Deadly Premonition. It holds the Guinness world record for "Most critically polarizing survival horror game." A lot of people hate it, and I understand the hate, I really do. But it's one of those games you have to play and experience for yourself.

Rightfully so. It's Doki Doki Panic. That said, I enjoyed it too.

This, or New Vegas depending on what ‘low' means to you.

I loved Dead Money. I was surprised at its metacritic score(70), since good games and add-ons typically score 90 or higher. Fallout: New Vegas has a slightly low metacritic score too(84 being mediocre on a metacritic scale), relative to other popular games.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition has a 79 metacritic score. That seems low too, but does not surprise me.

The Game of Thrones RPG is far better than the 54 it is sporting on metacritic. But it is pretty outdated for a 2012 game. I think Alpha Protocol is ranked right where it should be, the reactivity of the story didn't make up for the kinda boring plot it was reacting to.

Calling it the Black sheep is putting it mildly, it's not even a Mario game at it's core(it's Doki Doki Panic with a Mario paint job) but awesome nonethless. I played the heck out of it on my "Mario All stars cart" on Snes back in the day and wish they'd do a sequel like it.

*thumbs up*

E.Y.E - Divine Cybermancy

It's an atmospheric and immersive masterpiece really. Doesn't deserve the 61 points' Metacritic score at all.

Dead Money was my favorite piece of DLC. The atmosphere alone was incredible.

The vast majority of the time, it's the opposite.

Still though, the answer is Alpha Protocol. Hands down.

New Vegas was probably the best RPG I've played in... I don't know...  Maybe I should reinstall Bloodlines too because we won't be getting any other games for a while.
