Let's take a look at DA novels. Yes, D.G. has "canon" for Alistair-King, but that's NPC. There IS a difference between possibly-dead-Leliana or possibly-exiled-Alistair and, let's say Warden, which (of a sudden) acquires canon gender, race, origins and LI. So - it IS possible to continue writings and games without screwing previous PTs. Not to mention, that whatever DA _novels_ involve - DAA and DA2 games respect your own imported PTs. No one gets Anora instead of married Alistair, and reading novels and wikis is purely optional.

Another example - recent ME anime (Paragon Lost). I'm not saying it's flawless, beautiful and 100% lore-friendly or something like that - but they did manage to make a screenplay that keeps Shepard out of canon, and Shep is mentioned a lot. No gender, no class, no LI, not even paragon-renegade.

So - it is possible to respect PCs and write stories that involve or mention them. Involve and mention just enough to keep the integrity of the Universe. E.g. Revan talks from KOTOR2, references to Warden from DA2.

ps: yeah, I remember that ME4&DA3 are on their way. And I'm scared. I'm really-really scared.

Sometimes canon has to be established for the story the writers are trying to tell, but yes generally it's a good idea to leave the fates and characteristics of previous RPG protagonists as ambiguous as possible.

One of the biggest flaws with TOR was the attempt by Bioware and Lucasarts to turn it into some kind of sequel for KotOR 1&2. When somone said in an interview that they weren't making KotOR 3 but KotOR 3, 4, 5, 6..... It was really just inevitable that they'd involve characters from those two games to some extent. They should have made TOR entirely independent from the two games.

The only way around - use headcanon and ignore the rest. For me - whoever that bearded guy in cool robe is, he can't be Revan. Because myRevan was female. I don't care about that stupid FP and I will never accept it as any sort of canon.

Same here, every time I do the Foundry with my guildies I'm always like "That guy's a fake! Revan was female!" and my female guildies agree. ;) And we won't even go into the horrid Taral V...

The Revan novel would have been better if it just focused on Scourge and left Revan/Exile out all together. I still probably wouldn't have enjoyed it, but I probably wouldn't have the urge to stick my lightsaber through Scourge or punch in the teeth of all the Scourge fangirls. (Kill the Exile will ya... *grumble grumble*)

I have a headcanon for what happens to Revan and the Exile, and it doesn't involve anything that happened in the books or TOR.

And how long will it take someone to write canon post-ME3 novel for Liaramancing mShep...

Don't even *think* such horrible things...

to Chylise, I do think Scourge is one of the stronger characters of The Revan Novel. I do agree with you about Revan novel, that it should focus more on Scourge.

Yeah, the biggest "WTF?! 0_o" in my gaming history, perhaps...I mean right after my Hero from Diablo 1 stuck the gem into his forhead... 8P

I was going to make myself read the novel... I don't usually judge books before I read them. But I could barely stand 2 ME novels. Whatever Drew's part in games scripts was - his novels are...well, mediocre (to put it mildly). He's much better with games, to be honest. And those did not involve screwing previous PCs. So - I'm not sure I can read "Revan"..
