Sorry to anyone I've played with when I've tried a volus, I kept forgetting that I had the shield power :P
I'm not playing volus again for a good while :P

Funny I played with a Volus today (bronze/silver don't recall i was bouncing back and forth) who was constantly shield boosting me at just the right time. I was an N7 Destroyer and I'd stand toe-to-toe with a Geth Prime trading shots and right before I'd duck down to take cover here would come the little meatball giving me a boost so I could continue to stand and fire the PPR (yay, no stagger). His/her timing was impeccable. I did pick them up a few times but didn't mind because they'd already saved my bacon quite a few times.

The OP was in a match where the Volus Vanguard outscored them? I did manage to outscore everyone once in a silver match, and I was not even level 20 yet. However, even then - I tried the Volus in gold when I hit 20... and ... WOW.... I could not even see the enemies over the half wall protecting everyone but me. Even with the shield boost there are cool downs for #*(# sake.

Who said the Volus was a Vanguard?  Or about  a "Volus actually outscoring anyone" in that failed match, even if score DID matter?

My Volus Adept/VanGOD says screw support and destroys all enemies before him. The only team support he does is if someone is close enough to get caught in his Shield Boost, then lucky them.

No, dude.  I can understand AND appreciate the Volus taking out enemies.  Hey, one or whatever, less enemies per Wave, is one or whatever, less enemies per Wave.  Regardless of kit.

But no, this jacka** just kept on doing his own thing.

If he did not require revives and did objectives, i see no problem on him ramboing (if that is what is mean by doing his own thing)

No, unfotunately.  Wave 6 was a 4-Objective Wave.  That Volus did not approach ANY objective, while the 3 of us stuck together.  Pretty much that whole match.

If the player is good enough he doesn't have to play team support.  Post a screen cap of scores or let this thread die

Dear Buttmad Drell,

Volus are some of the tankiest characters in the game when played properly. Just because one of my abilities can heal you doesn't mean I'm your personal rez pony. My Engineer and Sentinel have crowd control abilities that are simply unmatched, which allow me to get in close and obliterate everything with my Wraith. If you expect me to drop my damage output to keep you or some over eager Broguard who can't handle his aggro alive, one of us is certainly not playing properly, and it ain't me.

Sincerely,
Wellington Osmond Volus, point leader extraordinaire.

PS, if you press down on the D pad you'll spend less time spectating me after you get lost and confused without me around.

i play as the volrus and spam shield boost all the time. but if i also wack on the pressure and on occasion and take out enemies when i can (thats why you have other powers). if i play public and someone has a weak setup then yeah im gunna arm my little fella to the teeth, happy to revive anyone that goes down aslong as they do the same and they dont charge into spawn spots. just playing the support role and spamming shield boost is boring (i supose platinum is the exception). if those little buggers keep sniping and wacking me about then im take as many of them out as possible... sorry

that being said, objective waves i usually try to do them or protect whoever is... ofcourse thats what the little fellas for.
i also agree if you have someone playing as the volrus and he doesnt shield boost at all or hardly ever that is really annoying especially as often when you have more than 1 volrus a map it glitches

Oh he mad!!  Drinkin' dat haterade.

Where was it written that Volus were support only??  Just cause they were designed for support doesn't mean they have to be played that way.

OP is racist vs. Volus.

Seriously, though Volus are not the only support class in the game and there are other kits in this game that are also capable of support and are played equally terribly.  Some would say that a Asari Justicar, Geth Engineer, N7 Demolisher, Salarian Engineer, just to name a few key kits off my head, are equally support styled and yet are played but some crappy players and some really good ones that can top Gold and Platinum leaderboards.

Don't hate, particpate bro!

Not dealing with objectives or getting revives when it's safe and close is kind of a dick move, but the OP reads like someone whining that a Volus is playing actively rather than being everyone's **** for the match, almost an attachment to the team that can restore shields.

The Volus don't have to spam Shield Boost the entire match the entire time, you know.

I usually spam proxy mine, myself.

On the flip side, with one very active, very good player, chasing them and shield boosting can really speed up the match. I basically escorted a Fury one game, chasing after them, keeping them off the ground, and giving them my sweet, sweet 50% DR. Those games went very fast.

The thing is you *don't* know.

I really wish I recorded that match, and took screenshots, to post on here, if anything.

Whomever that player was, was a compete douche.

I've played PUGs with Volus who spammed Shield Boost.  Cute, but kind'a silly.  Then there are Volus players who actually keep a keen situational awareness, fire Shield Boost very timely, like when a teammate is staggered, etc.  Teammates who stick with the team, specially during objective Waves.  So what if the Volus isn't the one disarming the 4-objective... thing?  The one disarming who comes under fire?  At least be near the guy to Shield Boost him, right?

Stepping back a bit for a broader perspective.  Feel free to take this as a rant towards players who aren't "team players", no matter the kit.  Hell, they're not part of the "core kits".  A Justicar isn't, but isn't it nice when she erects a Barrier while you're disarming an objective, regardless whether you're currently under fire or not?

Essentially, just be with the team.

The first 1 or 2 Waves in a PUG are... iffy.  But after that, good players get a feel on how these "strangers" play, right?  Who primes, and who detonates BEs?  Who primes, and who detonates TBs?   Who's the main attacker?  How you rotate around the map?  If this particular "team" is aggressive or campy?  Etc..

He should have jumped on the objectives, but anyone who knows how to hold their own with a volus is not your secretary. If he's demolishing the field, you're his support.
