tetsutsuru,

you seem to have this idea that Volus are meant to be played as so-called "support characters" or even that supporting others is Volus' duty. You are mistaken.

People were asking for support characters and Bioware responded to that by creating Volus and giving them the capability to be played as support characters. However - and this is the crux -  just because they have that capability that doesn't mean it's the only way or the right way to play those characters. Volus also have the capability to be effective offensive powerhouses on their own right. As it is with any other kit, there are many correct ways to play a Volus. You may feel your way is the only way, but don't expect others to share your sentiment.

Besides, the best way to support the team is be effective at killing stuff. That's how any kit can be a support kit. There's even a term for it: fire support.

I do believe we have a winner, folks.

What I understand from reading OP's post is he died and was stomped, and was outscored by a volus, so came to rage on the forums...

Aye.

Well, to me THE most appropriate Volus for Platinum matches is the adept with maxed out biotic orbs (4 orbs, all set to max power recharge and the shield boost to fast recharge and strong shield recharge)... That way you can easily spam shield boost (please choose a weapon that gives you a +200% bonus) and spam shield boosts around your group

A Volus is meant to be a support class (every single one of them), it has the worst defensive stats ontop of not being able to hide behind cover properly. I already tried it out on gold- you can stand in front of a Geth prime and stay there spamming shield boosts without dying- your shields are brought to the top faster than a Prime can get them down (I killed off a Prime with the weakest pistol (without any mods) just by spamming it on him and keeping my shields up (the other 3 guys AFKed on me and I ended up alone against that dude

Have you considered your team was being dumb, and didn't deserve being revived? Plus, your Batarian Vanguard if he was doing it correctly does not need shield boost. They can restore their own shields. Plus, annomader can outscore nearly me with just about everything I play with as a volos, and everything else he plays with as well, but is amazing with a volos. Accept maybe something with inferno grenades that I have to spam like it is my job, and got them on discount at the 5 and dime store, and get bonus pay for everyone I throw. So no the volos played correctly is not support. Your Drell adept just as an FYI is squishy. Try running more often, and let said volos give you cover fire. Also, adrenaline mod, so you can dodge the bullets, Use your soft cover, and medigels before you get stomped.

You made a Volus kit., and took him to battle.  It's YOUR job to understand his role as Support.

*ksssk* I'm sorry, can't hear you, Typhoon is making too much noise while I'm killing stuff *ksssk*

Honestly, a Volus is not a personal nurse who has to take care of you during a whole match. It's YOUR job to understand his role. A shield-boosting-only Volus will not be as effective as the one that's killing enemies too.

Sorry if you can't take care and watch your shields by yourself, but it's not the Volus-players obligation to do so.

L2P!

Having a 200% cooldown is what most people mess up on with Volus. A Volus Adept can get his Shield Boost down to 2.5ish seconds for every Shield Boost, which is NOT a significant enough time bonus to opt out of a higher damage weapon. Hell, you even stated that Volus can tank Primes. Instead of tanking a Prime with an Acolyte or something, try a Reegar. Or a Harrier. Or, like Annomander, a Claymore.

Not dealing with objectives or getting revives when it's safe and close is kind of a dick move, but the OP reads like someone whining that a Volus is playing actively rather than being everyone's **** for the match, almost an attachment to the team that can restore shields.

The thing is you *don't* know.

I really wish I recorded that match, and took screenshots, to post on here, if anything.

Whomever that player was, was a compete douche.

I've played PUGs with Volus who spammed Shield Boost.  Cute, but kind'a silly.  Then there are Volus players who actually keep a keen situational awareness, fire Shield Boost very timely, like when a teammate is staggered, etc.  Teammates who stick with the team, specially during objective Waves.  So what if the Volus isn't the one disarming the 4-objective... thing?  The one disarming who comes under fire?  At least be near the guy to Shield Boost him, right?

Stepping back a bit for a broader perspective.  Feel free to take this as a rant towards players who aren't "team players", no matter the kit.  Hell, they're not part of the "core kits".  A Justicar isn't, but isn't it nice when she erects a Barrier while you're disarming an objective, regardless whether you're currently under fire or not?

Essentially, just be with the team.

The first 1 or 2 Waves in a PUG are... iffy.  But after that, good players get a feel on how these "strangers" play, right?  Who primes, and who detonates BEs?  Who primes, and who detonates TBs?   Who's the main attacker?  How you rotate around the map?  If this particular "team" is aggressive or campy?  Etc..

After, reading your replies was the guy playing volos like/ highly likely not a great team player, yes, but when playing in Public lobbies you can not have expectations for the roles of your team, or count on them, at all. If you are not prepared to solo a few rounds on your own when your team dies than I'd suggest going back to silver. Will things go wrong at times, yes. Rule one with this game though expect the worst of your team in Public games, and if they revive you, use a rocket on a spawn you are ahead in your public game. Final thought really though volos are not support classes. I am not brilliant with them, but they can certainly hold their own. You need to play them smart with patience, or be an amazing player that head shots nearly everything like Jay.
Oh, and P.S. Again, the vanguard should not have needed a nurse maid.

Did you remember to tip the Volus at the start of the match? His pocket needs a little bulge boost before he goes droppin' that shield boost, if you know what I'm saying.

That is just my opinoin on the subject. And one more thing why do people who take the faster classes, want MY Destroyer to carry pizzas on gold? Yes I have more health and shields but it would be more effective to allow me to play support by following as your WELL-ARMED bodyguard! Now it does make sense to have me get it when I'm playing as my drellfiltrator with his movememnt speed bonus and occasional adreneline mods but NOT my (slower than a half-dead snail) Destroyer

Destroyers carrying pizzas isn't that bad. Just turn Devastator Mode off for a change - the Destroyer has enough shields that he's better than most other characters that move at 100% speed at deliveries. I mean, if you have someone with +speed, then sure, but if you don't...
