And rainbows?

Something like Knights of the Old Republic where you're the big damn hero who's saved everyone without a hint of bittersweet if that's what you're looking for?

Or even something Jade Empire where you can marry the Princess, rule the land, and everyone loves you?

I'd like a happy ending sure, but with a tinge of bittersweet. Not "every single little thing works out in the end".

For me, DAO's Dark Ritual Ending was what I'd like out of a happy ending.

It made me feel good, I saved the day, everyone's generally gonna be okay, but goddamn it my love and the mother of my child left me and I'll be damned if I'm not gonna look for her. Morrigan's Ring, the epilogue slides regarding it, all that stuff with her made me HURT. But in a good way.

So something like that.

I prefer some amount of loss among the victories. Would love if said loss wasn't set in stone, however, but rather depended on your choices. Have a "choose your poison" choice somewhere in the game so that there will always be something that can make the ending feel like it's not all perfect rainbowy roses, even if you've had a mostly "perfect" run otherwise.

To answer seriously, I'm not going to say what ending I'd like, because it depends on the story itself.

I want to be a martyr. Origins funeral scene for the US warden always makes me tear up.

Happy or sad doesn't matter (all the endings of DAO are bittersweet, even the Dark Ritual) but I just would like my character to be a hero at the end. I liked Hawke, but Hawke wasn't a hero, Hawke was just someone who got s**t done.   My character at the end of the BG saga, now that was a guy that was an epic hero, worthy of legends and I wasn't unhappy to see him go away.  Not only that I still get a little choked up when I read Minsc's epilogue.  Following the BG mode might be a bit cliched, but it still works.

Basically-

If there HAS to be a bittersweet ending, I'd rather the emphasis be on the sweet, rather than the bitter.

Might be nice as an optimal outcome.

but what I favor is Earn Your Happy Ending.  Like what DAO provided.

Only if it means I can have my sexy blond LI companion and my non-mabari pet walk away into the sunset with my protag.

The US was bittersweet. The warden sacrificed their self for the greater good, leaving their loved ones behind. It was bitter that the warden had to die, but sweet that their death saved ferelden.

I'd like SOME happiness, if not sunshine and rainbows. I thought Origins did it well; there was the option for happiness (depending on what you were willing to do for it) and most importantly closure regardless. I'm still yet to play DA2 the whole way through (I will before DA3:I, I promise!) so I can't comment on that, but I would be unsatisfied if it were like ME3 in the way that

*ME3SPOILERS*
no matter what you did, the world's pretty much ****ed up and you're dead (or on the brink of death in an isolated, ruined place where you don't have any access to medical attention).
*ME3SPOILERS*

But yes, in summary, I am a sap and have a secret (very manly) desire for sappy endings.

You got to me before the BG edit...

To each his/her own but to elaborate *****obvious DAO spoilers*****
Ultimate Sacrifice:  Saved the world, but at the cost of the hero's life.
Alistair dies:  Saved the world, but at the cost of a (potentially) great king and good friend
Loghain dies:  Save the world, but at the cost of Fereldan's greatest hero.  Sure he redeemed himself in the end but that in itself was bittersweet because he had to sacrifice himself to achieve redemption.
Dark Ritual (with Morrigan romance):  To save the world, you must put your love aside.
Dark Ritual (without Morrigan romance):  Save the world, but potentially causing a greater trouble down the road by empowering the dark witch.

How's that?

Everything that's wonderful is what I feel when we're together~!

I don't really care about the emotional tone of the ending, as long as it's good. But I've played a lot of games recently where the protagonist has to die/is given the choice to sacrifice themselves for a greater good. I'd like to see that particular little plot point go away for a little while.

BTW, Maria forgot about the rainbows. My ending needs sunshine, lollipops AND rainbows. Everyone forgets about the rainbows.

Maybe, I guess it depends on the story, its certainly no more cliche then the bad ending or the bittersweet ending is.  I would like it to be something you have to work for and not automatic if they do have it, but then I like multiple endings in general.

I personally like endings with a dose of reality.  Loss, regret, and reflection on the past events and how the characters have changed because of them.

But there should also be a sense of accomplishment, and that you made a difference, even if only a small or temporary one.

Just my personal tastes at the moment.  I personally don't have anything against a happy ending with dancing Ewoks.

So, I would prefer a bittersweet ending, extra bitters.

Nah it doesn't have to be a Disney Ending. But what I want is a happy ending where you and most if your companions(maybe not all but most) can get out alive. I'm hoping fenris, anders, or carver returns and that we can sacrifice them instead of someone I actually like.

Yes I would like a unicorns, butterflies, candy and lollipops ending where Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny rain down accolades upon our heroes.

Serious, yes I want a good ending. I don't care much for these angst driven dark dark dreary bleak dark games where in the end it is artful because nothing you did mattered much at all.

I'd like to win, save the princess, live in a house made of skittles and raise some babies who ride unicorns instead of bigwheels.

I don't really enjoy every game I play being dark, bleak, and real. I like those themes in the middle of the game, but in the end, I'm not a big fan of "no matter what you do bad stuff happens and everyone dies".

Those aren't even good literary elements, they are just introducing bleak themes to make it seem more mature.

Yes give me a bad ending if that is your story, don't give me 4 equally bad endings, just because your lead dev or writer is upset that not many people chose the bad ending over the good endings.

I'm just not feeling this theme of....we can't give good endings because too many people will choose them style of game writing.

I'm starting to think somethings wrong with me. For some reason I find myself wanting an ending that's the complete opposite of this; where everything goes horribly wrong. The protagonist dies and all hell breaks loose; starting some new conflict or escalating an already existing one. Then on the horizon we see the Qunari invasion.
