That's really the most important thing, in the world. =|

...... i hope you all know that DA is not a Trilogy. there is going to be an DA4... (as long as DA3 sales are good i guess)

So this one isn't "THE END" of the series. Mass Effect was a 3 game trilogy was ment to be from the start.

And I do belive it has been stated before so.

Hmm...

I don't know, I guess?  I hope this doesn't sound strange, but I think it depends on the story and some of the characters.  For DA2 I was more hopeful for a happy ending because Hawke's story was very personal to me and I felt that personal happiness for Hawke would be nice.  In the Warden I saw more a sacrificial character, a "person" a bit more divorced from the intimate and the personal and more in line with abstract themes.

So I guess I won't know until I play the game, if that makes sense?

Well... Does it make sense?

Is it thematically and tonally consistent?

Would the characters be bent out of shape by making choices disconnected from the rest of the narrative purely for the sake of hitting the "happy ending" note?

If the answers are "yes," "yes" and "no," then why the hell not?

Absolutely.

If they are going to have multiple possible endings one of them should be the perfect happying ending.

Not 3 depressing endings.

Save the world
Rule the world
Destroy the world

is alot more interesting then

Destroy it with fire
Destroy it with water
Destroy it with darkspawn

Different endings should be different.

Give me the perfect happy ending any day or bitter sweet or just plain depressing

I'd like a happy ending, sure, but one with one hell of a dark cloud looming over the horizon. Say for instance another blight AND some even greater threat making its presence know as a cliff hanger.

Pretty much my thoughts as well.

DA:O had a happy ending, why not DA3?

Well, at least I consider it a happy ending b/c I've always done the DR, but the bittersweet/US ending is all up to the player.

Yes.

I want happy. I want a happy so happy and sweet that I will be high off the sugar shock for a solid week. I want happy tears to leak from my happy eyes as I watch the final happy cutscenes of my wonderful, happy game.

In case I was a little too subtle the first time: I WANT A COMPLETELY HAPPY ENDING TO MY FANTASY GAME!  *hyperventilates* I know David Gaider is writing it so that will never happen.

:wizard: I would also like a bittersweet, some good and some bad ending, AND a completely FUBAR I-gave-Thedas-the-middle-finger awful ending. That should pretty well taking care of all my different characters and all their roleplaying needs. ^_^

I'm not sure I'd like the 'sunshine and roses' kind of ending. But different endings where I feel my character has made some kind of impact in the world around them (to the improvement of others) is my ideal.

One of my favorite endings of Origins was the US. Sure, the warden dies but they saved Ferelden and there wasn't some question of the Old God Baby popping back up in the future to toss a monkeywrench in the works.

I also enjoyed the Alistair rules with the warden as his (mistress) chancellor ending. With or without Anora, it's going to be problematic, but it's 'happy' in that the two lovers didn't have to be torn apart, and they still saved the day. Though that OGB hanging over them may come back...

Even the 'fairy tale ending' of Queen Cousland or King Cousland isn't without problems. Anora (may or may not be) barren, but a warden's fertility is a limited thing even with a fertile partner. And Alistair/FHN isn't going to be having any children at all.

At the end of DA2, the world teeters on the brink of a war between mages and everyone else. Yes, Hawke may have saved his loved ones, but there is that scenario. Change is coming, and it may or may not be for the better, only time (and future installments like this one) will tell, but it's certainly been needed for a long time.

So even 'happy endings' can have a dark side to them. I like that. I don't want all puppies and sunshine and rainbows as long as I feel my character has accomplished something important and made a positive impact on the world around them.

Something like Knights of the Old Republic where you're the big damn hero who's saved everyone without a hint of bittersweet if that's what you're looking for?

Or even something Jade Empire where you can marry the Princess, rule the land, and everyone loves you?

I wouldn't mind some bittersweet, but I like the idea of a proactive hero making an accomplishment that earned him respect from the people. Ruling the land sounds nice, too.

Yes I would like an ending with Bethany and lollipops.

She deserves one.

Naw, I wouldn't want it to be all sunshine and butterflies.

A choice of different outcomes would be optimal, but I prefer the "good/best" endings to have some kind of bittersweet-ness or stipulation to them, perhaps sacrificing one thing for the sake of another or requiring your protagonist to partake in less than moral deeds in order to achieve their desired outcome etc.

So I guess I like my happy endings with a tinge of bittersweet poignancy and some sort of difficult decision to be made before it's reached. That being said, I do like to try and keep all my companions and protagonists alive when the option is possible.

I actually liked DA2's ending where Hawke and his/her LI are together somewhere having adventures. That's a happy enough ending for me, and if the ME3 debacle is anything to go off of it's pretty much what people want.

I prefer to sit in the real sun to get my sunshine and I also prefer to shop for my own lollipops, so that means no I don't want the game to end in sunshine and lollipops. :P

I'd like an ending that isn't ambiguous. I don't mind at all if it isn't sunshine and rainbows, but canonically sending my characters into shadowy voids are the worst endings ever to me. I'm not crazy about being forced to be a martyr, but if I have a choice between that and being sent away to the void, I'd accept the death ending.

I do enjoy endings like KOTOR and ME1, but neither of those were conclusive, franchise ending endings. And it wouldn't hurt the overall theme and setting of the Dragon Age franchise to occasionally let good guys win (or bad guys, if that's what a player considers a happy ending to them).

Even if, for instance, a Dragon Age game ended relatively happily, I sincerely doubt that we'd get an ending where the Old Gods would all be vanquished, the Black City would be turned Gold again, every darkspawn in the world would die, and all mages would be safe from corruption forever. Having a hero overcome obstacles, reach their goal, and then live happily with their friends and family, however, seems pretty reasonable, in terms of ambitions.

I'm happy with a variety of endings, so long as they make sense in context.

But I'd prefer Skittles™ to lollipops. That way I could have my rainbow and eat it too.

I thought that was the Dark Ritual ending? Well provided youre not heartbroken by the fact Morrigan left you and will raise your brat without you?

Beat me to it by 7 minutes.  "Make sense in context," were the exact words that came to mind when I started reading this thread.

Well, you can pretend that the Dark Ritual was some sort of ominous thing that could maybe lead to a horrible disaster. Except we all knew that wasn't going to happen.

I don't know, my first few playthroughs of that ended with me cutting down Bastila on the Star Forge just prior, unable to redeem her back to the light. That put a bit of a bummer on the victory celebration.

I suppose that's the kind of thing I'd root for, anyway. I'd like it if there is at least a do-everything-right-let's-have-a-parade ending, just as much as I want there to be a you're-a-screw-up-now-we're-all-boned ending even if I don't necessarily end up getting either myself. Tragedy is personally more tragic if I could've avoided it somehow.

Remember that Templar from DA:O who got enslaved by a desire demon at the circle? She tricks him into thinking that he gets a sunshine and lollipops ending? If DA3 ends with that happening to my Inquisitor, it has my vote for GotY.
