When you chose to make a default Shepard in ME2 or ME3, is there any way to tell or know why the default choices it gives you for ME1 and 2 are why they are?
Is the default play-through the "correct" one, in terms of what the developers were hoping people would chose?

My brother and I just got into a huge and really stupid arguement about why the default choices are the default choices. The arguement mainly surrounds why the default descision about the saving or letting the council die.
Apparently, the default descion is to let the council die.

My brother says this because the developers wanted people to play the game with this descision.
I say it's because, if anything, it's because it's what most people tended to pick, and thats why it's default.
My opinion of why they did this also allows for people who made the hard choice to save them inherit all the different story options available for their efforts. It's a neat little payoff, and it seems games like to reward people like that.

I know this is a stupid arguement because we may never know what the developers were thinking when they made letting the council die be the default choice... But I think my side of the arguement is very logical, and yet he thinks his opinion is just the opitomy of logic. He is like Spock right now, and in my eyes I have NO idea how he cannot see why my points are very logical as well.

If there is any documentation anywhere about their thought process about the Mass Effect story, I would surely be greatful to be directed to it.
I want to know to end this arguement, and I want to know because I just plainly want to know.

Like Legion I strive to gain concensus with others, and arguements with no resolution are a real sore for me.
I realise this is somewhat petty, but nevertheless, if there is anyone who can help me, I would really like to know the reasons behind why the default choices are picked how they are.
