Yes, I have said it. Its about time people just accept that score is the most important factor in determining player skill.
The biggest argument anyone can ever provide as to why score is "meaningless" is because "this game is a co-op"
Let me tell you right now. Its not.
I have never, ever, seen PUGs or friends attempt to make this "co-op" based game actually cooperative.
Here are the "co-op" tactics people use (in no particular order):
1) Camp
- FBWGG, and RioReapersPlatinum. This is about as cooperative as it gets, and its a complete load of pathetic mediocrity. Its neither effective or efficient. Its just a bunch of scared players huddling together in a corner praying that nobody will get stabbed....
But oh, will they get stabbed.
2) "Staying close"
Is this a real tactical strategy? No. Its a "strategy" with a very basic concept: "if we stick together, we have a better chance of living." Doesn't mean **** when a bunch of enemies splits your team up. Then you are just forced to find somewhere else to "stick together." Pretty much, its a "better version" of camping.
AND.....
3) Synchronizing Powers.
This is hilarious. Most of the time when people do this, they pick one or two powers that sync up well, and just spam the crap out of it (ex. Overload and Snap Freeze). This is just silly, as it hardly translates to a strategy outside of "dewd, keep hittin em wit dat snap freeze." This tactic is even better than 1 & 2, because it combines both elements together, but still lacks efficieny the higher the difficulty goes.
And don't get me started on biotics. Most people will just spam their Biotics, and then someone will get greedy and start only using Detonating powers because they want points. Then, all you get is a bunch of Throws hitting an armored atlas... this is hilarious.
The most cooperative gameplay I have seen is strategies used by speedrunners. Its coordinated with each player playing a specific role, standing in a specific spot, moving toward specific areas, and using specific equipment on specific waves. Not only that, but if something "jolts" the strategy, there are back up strategies to compensate. This is Co-Op. Not some BS vague idea of ?working together" until some moron gets greedy
Get it together people. If you want to determine whether or not you are decent at the game, watch the score. If you regularly score 60-90k more than the PUGs in your Gold games... you are probably alright. If you are getting outscored each and every game by that same amount, you are probably not that great.
tl;dr
Face scores with the truth: You are your score
