Wouldn't it be cool if we could use spears/lances?

I like how DoA is quaint and simple with its mechanics (makes it easier to understand), but I thought lances were a given haha. Besides, lances could introduce a new class. I have no idea what class that would be, though. I've heard lances are  used against dragons but that would be copying final fantasy's dragoon class.

Whatever, I'd love a lance weapon that focuses on wide swings that hit a lot of enemies. See, it already has a niche!

Spears are thrown and lances are made for piercing armour mainly from at a distance or from elevation, but if you wanted that sort of thing you could have a pikeman but pike's are purely defensive.

If you wanted an aggressive version halberd's would do.

I know this might be hard for you to understand, but you asked for peoples thoughts and when they give them you are constantly belittling them. So did you just create this topic so you could throw a hissyfit?

If you can't be open to debate don't create one, especially about a subject others have proven that you clearly know nothing about!

I think they made that up

Spears are one of the most used weapons in history, I think nearly every civilisation had something that resembled a spear. So I don't see why couldn't be added.

Maybe they could be a less damage, but faster attack rate kind of weapon? Making them more effectieve against large groups of weak enemies, less effective against a single strong enemy. Kinda like dual wielding, but still the 2handed weapon skills.

Spears can be used as a melee weapon or thrown.

Actually what he said is how you deal with children, your response is how you'd expect a child to react.

Fact is you asked for thoughts, people gave them too you. If you do not agree with them then or you don't think they understand what your trying to say then you either A) leave them to their opinion or try to clarify in a respectable non sarcastic way.

Not everyone is going to share your opinion or outlook on something, it's human nature we are all diverse, that doesn't mean it's ok to attempt to belittle them.

1. I introduce the idea that spears/lances (and every other long ROD with a BLADE at the end) should be added to the game.

2. A guy jokingly posts something dumb about having a horse. Not serious at all.

3. I disagree curtly.

4. Another guy comes in talking to me about what i SHOULD of said because he's obviously too slow to understand the bigger meaning of, once again, a ROD with a BLADE at the end.

5. I simplify what i'm asking for in elementary terms.

6. Chickenhead gets his panties in a bunch and screams NO I DON'T LIKE IT!

While spears can be thrown (as wwwwowwww said in a previous post), I think that if they include polearm type weapons, throwing them should not be an option because

1) how will you manage the "ammo" aspect - arrows and bolts are only used if they are magic, how will this map to throwing a javelin?

2) Spears and javelins should also not be allowed to be thrown because you can not throw daggers.



And about the attacking multiple targets; If it's going the be used as a 2 handed weapon and hit a lot of enemies, shouldn't a battle axe do the same?

1.) Yes you introduced the spears/lance concept

2.) Not really a joke given the size of lances and how they are used, you would need a horse.

3.) You said it would be for Qunari only

4.) Yes someone did say what he thought you should have said to clear up the confusion that seemed to be starting.

5.) You became a smart azz with your "elementary terms"

6.) No one screamed anything, in fact he said No he didn't think they needed to add anything like that ( which would be his opinion to give on your original question)

Sorry but I'm an adult and I'm not going to let you bring me down to your level.

If you can't handle the fact that not everyones opinions and thoughts are going to mirror your own then don't ask for opinions or thoughts, it's really that simple.

I do agree that spears would be a neat option, but only as melee weapons. Lances would be to much without introducing the horse just because of the sheer size of the traditional lance. Quanari's are big, but not that big.

I really like polearms too and if were available as a weapon would definitely get its own specialization. However I think implementing a polearm is going to be problematic in a small 4 party game.

Polearms as mentioned before are most often used on horseback for the range. Mostly in military applications where you have a large scale of ppl. Polearms are not overly powerful on defense, that is why you often seem ppl with Polearms carrying a shield. Likely you party is going to be out-numbered in most case, hence surrounded, it makes the polearm guy not overly effective. Your enemies will likely be attacking you from a very short distance and the length of the polearm is going to be a handicap more than an advantage. Since you would have a shield, you would have many of the same skills as the Sword and Shield tree. So this kind of becomes redundant without offering a very unique battle approach.
If you were to be using a polearm without a shield, what kind of advantage do you have over say 2h weapons that are already in the game? Best we can expect is really high armor penetration with probably lower damage kind of like the mauls that are already in the game. Would the reach of the polearm be of any benefit? Well according to the game engine as we know it now, does not account for weapon length. This is shown how daggers do not affect attack distance compared to swords.

I love polearms but in the context of this game, it does not seem to fit. But yes it is rather odd that an army does not have a variety of different units with different gear for different tasks. It's like C&C with only marines and no option to have grenaders or rocket launcher guys.

I dont see how a long ROD with a BLADE at the end of it fits in with the game mechanics since the range advantage goes out the window.

Also i lol ed at your terrible shapeshifting idea.
