Current progress.

How it starts...
That is a BMP image users can replace in the background of the app.

Browsing PW's - clicking Play for each PW uses +connect to open NWN2 and open the game if you have the "NWN2 Client Extension" by skywing. ( a bit redundant because you can browse in game with his program )

( Thank you Skywing, this API totally is better than the old gamespy server ever was )

Woefully out of date listing of modules by level as found here in the forums. Need someone willing to update this. ( I can probably make it convert to the format used to post here in the forums )

And I stil have the dynamic INI editing, soas to allow easier configuration of player folders, cameras and the like.

I am working on the user interface, soas to make it simpler and easy to use as possible, while not compromising on the options available to the player.

Hmm, I don't see any link for more information anywhere, so I have to ask:
What is this about? A launcher that has preconfigured stuff for easy access or a reverse-engineered launcher for the games? (Though I would love to see something like that eventually that fixes bugs, like they did with Morrowind.)
Though it does seem really interesting and well-made.

The original is here:

and a second thread here: http://social.biowar...index/8618078/1
I don't know if that's where Pain is keeping the current version. I tested the prototype a bit for him, and it did what it claimed to do (the version I tested didn't have everything turned on yet).

I think the screen shots are pretty self explanatory. The initial program that starts the game is kind of what it's replacing. I don't think it's ever going to be comparable to anything else except in parts, so to answer your questions "yes, kind of like that but not really". It does quite a bit more, but this is the main everyday use I am implementing.

I would not categorize it just as a launcher, that is just what I am focusing on now due to gamespy. Most of the ideas came from lurking in the tech support forums and on the IRC channel helping lots of frustrated users, this is basically my attempt to solve those problems which never seem to go away which users seem to self inflict upon themselves.

It's really frustrating when you have community members providing fixes to things that are broken in the official version, at a level of quality that puts the rushed official version to shame, by community members who actually ended up with their work in that official game, to have end users refuse to use their stuff which fixes what they are complaining about just because it's not from Atari. There is a reason certain names are mentioned in the product manual.

I am hoping, if it's done via installer, and guaranteed safe, and only include top quality content to download, will let end users use the latest features from TonyK, Kaedrin, rpgplayer1, 010010, Hellfire, and many others with some confidence that installation is as good as "official".

This is in essence a tool to manage NWN2, basically providing hand holding to non technical users. My eventual goal is a package management system, with merging - and by providing a launcher, well when you hit play that allows my program to know what you are going to play and I can reconfigure, update, and fix your game to ensure that module works perfectly. If you choose to use custom content, I can merge it for you from the packages, thus ensuring that everything actually will work together.

( If you want to fix bugs, the NWN2 client extension is much more important to use than my program, which reverse engineers the game much more fully than you've seen in any program, I even say you cannot debug and test things with it since it prevents so many crashes. One of my programs goals is to auto install that and help get more users using it. )

Sounds promising!

So simply compile the links from the Vault/Nexus?

Also a question; in the previous thread you mentioned you had Uncanny Dodge fixed. Some servers implement this fix, and I wonder, what is the default behaviour? Do Paralysis and Feint correctly bypass the ability?

LOL, it is simple, would you mind doing it. I am doing quite a few things, and prefer not to be doing compilation work everytime something on the vault changes, especially for something I am probably never going to use myself.

I don't remember the exact details, and I'd really have to test it myself to actually answer you, which you can do yourself. I have actually to look at some reported bugs in that as it's been a long while. Need to setup the wxwidgets and visual studio setup I had before and get things compiling again - I am basically on a new much bigger hard drive and have not gotten around to getting everything I had working, working again yet.

Sure, the module lists seem outdated by just a few months and I already keep track of Vault/nexus changes. I've made an update post for the NWN2 List, I'll check the NWN1 List later.

GFallen01, i've been discussing this with some NWN1 community members as well via PM, so decided to reply with my thoughts in a separate post.

http://social.biowar.../index/15613771

I need to create a easy GUI, and frankly I'd prefer no double work, so a way to export out the list to bbcode so it matches the forums I think would be in order. Could actually provide lists on the forums by multiple metrics much easier if it's all in one list.

I was just listening to the NWN Podcast 169...

This post is basically in response to that, well it's always been that but I've been listening to it. You should listen to it, if you have not already and you will know what I am responding to. It says quite a few things which I've been feeling which led me to work on this.

The assumption in this program is that nothing should be harder than filling in their user name and password ( or equivalent ). If the player has to do any work which is harder than selecting choices from a list ( which module ) and hitting play.

The goal is for the player to "NEVER WORK", and to do the work for the player. This is for casual players, but I want it usable by advanced players - not dumbed down but for when they don't need to do it themselves.

This is the core vision and purpose here. Now to get there, it will take forever as there will always be things i can't fix for the player, but it will be done by fixing one issue after another, doing one tool after another which removes work the player is now expected to do and making the game easier and easier. This touches gamespy, installation, package management, the vault, finding modules and PW's to play, and it touches both NWN1 and NWN2.

More progress on development
  • Improved Package generation support, a package can be created by drag and drop, and can be followed as a script which downloads, and extracts files from an archive and installs them in the proper locations ( using NWNCX and CEP to test if this works ). Working on more advanced script command syntax to be integrated to do on the fly modification of game resources, and dynamic diffs. Still can use any older versions of NWN1 to enable accurate migrations for old content ( if you have a combined update for 1.67 or before, that is the file i could use, one for each version used by anything on the vault )
  • Multiplayer list now has option to filter by category ( action, roleplay, etc ) or by all.
    Image IPB
  • Direct connect allows players to join servers not in the Tracker ( ie skywings API central tracker, not run by me but what is used by NWNCX and many others in the community.) Still thinking thru the interface here, will be subject to change.
    Image IPB
  • Option to crowd source the server data, check box to allow players to automatically add servers they join, if the server is not already tracked, and button to add a server. It automatically resolves local ip's to the public ip address when adding to the tracker. Verfies via a direct gamespy request that it's an active server before it adds to the tracker. Also displays information about the server before connecting, and whether it's in the tracker.
  • Button to add multiple ip's for servers quickly. Just copy a list of ip's to the clipboard, then hit the button, and say yes. It spends about 2-5 seconds per ip, makes sure it's active then adds it to the tracker. Should allow people who have lots of ip's they think are missing to add them.
    Image IPB
( and yes, this means that a lot more servers are on NWNCX at this point, this is designed so as people find missing servers ( like xfires listing ), the community can easily get them into the tracker )
  • Auto-updating of the app itself, can do a version check on the website, if it's obsolete asks if you want to install it, it will download the latest version, then quit and restart with the new version. This ensures when this is working well, that i can quickly fix any bugs in the released version, or know that i can release the partially working version and that everyone will get all new features as they are completed. ( and it's actually using the same system for package version control to ensure it's up to date )

Is there a beta of this I can test for you. I am trying to host a game now and my IT skill sare woefully inadequate.

Gamespy i could do but setting up my router to let people in I cannot it seems. From what i can see this tool supports you with that, am I correct?
