Hmm, I don't see any link for more information anywhere, so I have to ask:
What is this about? A launcher that has preconfigured stuff for easy access or a reverse-engineered launcher for the games? (Though I would love to see something like that eventually that fixes bugs, like they did with Morrowind.)
Though it does seem really interesting and well-made.
I think the screen shots are pretty self explanatory. The initial program that starts the game is kind of what it's replacing. I don't think it's ever going to be comparable to anything else except in parts, so to answer your questions "yes, kind of like that but not really". It does quite a bit more, but this is the main everyday use I am implementing.
I would not categorize it just as a launcher, that is just what I am focusing on now due to gamespy. Most of the ideas came from lurking in the tech support forums and on the IRC channel helping lots of frustrated users, this is basically my attempt to solve those problems which never seem to go away which users seem to self inflict upon themselves.
It's really frustrating when you have community members providing fixes to things that are broken in the official version, at a level of quality that puts the rushed official version to shame, by community members who actually ended up with their work in that official game, to have end users refuse to use their stuff which fixes what they are complaining about just because it's not from Atari. There is a reason certain names are mentioned in the product manual.
I am hoping, if it's done via installer, and guaranteed safe, and only include top quality content to download, will let end users use the latest features from TonyK, Kaedrin, rpgplayer1, 010010, Hellfire, and many others with some confidence that installation is as good as "official".
This is in essence a tool to manage NWN2, basically providing hand holding to non technical users. My eventual goal is a package management system, with merging - and by providing a launcher, well when you hit play that allows my program to know what you are going to play and I can reconfigure, update, and fix your game to ensure that module works perfectly. If you choose to use custom content, I can merge it for you from the packages, thus ensuring that everything actually will work together.
( If you want to fix bugs, the NWN2 client extension is much more important to use than my program, which reverse engineers the game much more fully than you've seen in any program, I even say you cannot debug and test things with it since it prevents so many crashes. One of my programs goals is to auto install that and help get more users using it. )
