Not sure myself, I reckon a DA mmo would be great.
However it wouldn't happen as Bioware have there upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO out soon - & this looks awsome too!

Besides it doesn't have to be "Massively". Just look at Neverwinter Nights and you will understand what I and all the others here mean by multiplayer.
Using the word MMO in the topic just wasn't a wise choice. I knew we would end up with 100 stupid comments like that.
Yes sure...it is more difficult to have a world that is dynamic and changing to player action BUT that can be done to some extent.
More importantly is that all the ready done single player campaigns and even future ones can stay just as they. This is what the single player campaign people don't understand. They think someone will destroy their game.
I will say it again. Go play NWN online/or in MP mode....then you will understand what we are talking about.

MMO: a game where you have to wait for a warrior or healer for hours, go into a dungeon, die on first pull with everyone disbanding then you're off to kill sheeps alone...
You played FFXI too I see lol..

The problem is that the developers would have to waste time programming the online part. And the campaign itself would have to make compromises to be playable by several players. Both is detrimental to the single player experience....
You haven't been reading nothing have you.
NO ONE WILL TAKE YOUR PRECIOUS SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGN FROM YOU!
THEY WILL EVEN MAKE MORE SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGNS FOR YOU SO RELAX!
We just want the CAPABILITY in THE GAME ENGINE for multiplayer AND THEN WE WILL MAKE OUR OWN "MULTIPLAYER CAMPAIGNS" OURSELVES USING THE TOOLSET.
You cannot say that the developers would be wasting their time on this because Bioware have already been wasting their time the last 6 years or so doing single player games for people like you.

Why the hostility towards MMOs? Because they are a different school of RPG gaming. Most CRPGs are based on a pen and paper model, whereas most MMOs are based, fundamentally at least, on a MUD/MUSH model. Two very different animals.
It's fine to have a toolset where people can make their own small PWs like people did with NWN. However a true MMO is a totally different animal, and is really a genre of its own.

You have no way of saying that is how it would go down tho. Are you a Head dev at BW to make sure that when they are doing a overhaul on the engine to make multiplayer work that they would not make changes (whatever they would be) to the single player game.
Also multiplayer is not something that is just tacked on. When a engine is being to developed it is way way easier to do it with multiplayer in mind then to go back and add it in. Are you willing to pay whatever BW asks for that multiplayer? Because it would not come cheap or quickly.
Yup BW has been making a lot of single player only games for a while but what about the rest of the industry? Either way people need to accept they will not always get everything they want.
Really it is just silly to make comments and statements that you would have zero say in or controll over.

Agreed though would not come out very well in a Multi-Player scenario. However if any of you who want MMORPG your almost in the right place. Head on over to Biowares Star Wars: The Old Republic site and you who want MMO thats story driven will have to wait but its coming. There will single player driven stuff in SWTOR and Bioware is setting it up such that there won't be endless amounts of boring grinding like other MMOs. They are outdoing themselves with their first MMO if you like the Star Wars franchise. (And yes I know my spelling is horrible from time to time please forgive me I haven't been in school for almost 20 years LOL)

Well untill he got slammed for a page and a half then went "oh multiplayer yaaaaaaaaa that"
Which I will guarentee and provide stack after stack of waffles to everyone in this thread that this game right here that we all have right now will not have multiplayer provided by BW. I have seen devs make coy little remarks to people asking for these things that there will be "other" games in this setting. Not sequel but other games.
So who knows what the future will bring (and if you do know could I get some lotto numbers I always wanted my own custom order waffle restaraunt)

Don't get me wrong, I love(d) NWN, played it for years, ran a PW. But I'm not willing to give up good single-player for that.

DING DING DING DING DING... heres your waffle good sir. I am attempting to hunt down where in another thread a Dev who worked on NWN and is working on this game flat out told the "multiplayer needs not change the single player" people that it is false and concessions had to be made so it could work.
Those that say "well then do not do anything to the single player campaign and let us make our own" well what about those that want to play thru the main story with friends? They would be in the same boat you are now only more pissed because multiplayer was added but they did not get what they wanted and then would feel terribly slated by BioWare.
Maybe in the future we will be given a DA game that supports multiplayer but as it stands this one was never intended to have it and IMHO will not see it. We can keep on wishing and waiting tho...

Exactly. It's obvious that the NWN 1 OC suffered a lot from time being spent elsewhere. It's already bad enough that SWTOR means there'll probably be no single player KotoR 3.

I'd be OK with a DA:O MMO as long as I didn't have to see or hear from any other player (let alone ever group with them).
In other words, pls. don't make this an MMO. An online, sub-based single-player RPG, however, I would give serious thought to -- provided it offered an MMO-scale world and content.

The developers have done almost none of the work that would be necessary to implement that - you can't even wander freely about the world after finishing the main quest (c.f. Oblivion). Having said that, co-op is a different matter. The campaign could be played through with a different client (executable program). One player would have to be nominated leader, and conversations could be frustrating for other players, but it could work.
The question is whether sales would justify the expense. And no, this is not a project that the mod community can undertake. It requires engine coding, not script work.

Really? I think they're great. The 13 million or so playing WoW, and the few million playing other MMOs, seem to agree. It's a huge market.
Anyway, wasn't FFXI on consoles? It seemed to do pretty well for a time. I've heard that FFXIV will be an MMO too.
