 On a mage character...
Will he be able to draw enough enemies away from my mage?

Not only is dog incapable of drawing aggro, he's also incapable of surviving drawing aggro. So uh, no.

Dog can't use Taunt? I'm pretty sure he can.

But he's a tad fragile as a tank.

Without mods on PC not really. On console yes since he gets warrior talents shockingly enough.

Im going to get in trouble for this but.....if you made him say 100% Dexterity and managed to get him to a obscene amount of defense (preferably 120, but I dont think thats possible) he could tank.

Of course hes not immune to crowd control like normal tanks are usualy built.

Ah. Therein lies the misunderstanding. I played on XBox 360.

Dog can draw aggro just by charging ahead into battle but as others have noted, he'll just die quickly.  Shale is a much better choice.  Her Stoneheart tree gives armor bonuses and draws aggro.  She doesn't exactly qualify as man's best friend, though.

Console user here. I'd go double mage to support the dog (which has the warrior talent set). Much like darkness mentioned, going dex may be the best choice as well as his resistance gear. With that said, I think he is more than viable to pull it off.

Even at 100% dex, it'll die as soon as it's stunned and loses the dex bonus to defence, given its shallow HP and nonexistent armour. And 120 defence isn't at all unhittable either. Mages will also take it out extremely quickly.

Though yeah, I forgot that dog got taunt on consoles. But basically all it's good for is overwhelming a single humanoid and its stun. Which is a shame, but oh well.

I've often sent the dog ahead to draw the attention of crowds. When his health drops I put a force field on him and attack from a distance using Earthquake, Grease, Fireball, Blizzard (requires 2 mages) and plenty of arrows - healing dog from a distance whilst he is in the forcefield usually allows you to repeat the process at least once. Not exactly tanking but works for me

Wardog has ridiculous survivability and also seems the fastest to me. Anytime I used War Dog it was usually the last standing on a wipe.

I would use the Winterforge to add 'Increase Hostility' to a dog's collar or warpaint, use this mod so that increase/decrease hostility propety is directly linked to "Threat factor"

http://dragonage.nex...s.com/mods/1601

And then download a few other mods such a "Full Combatant Dog" "Extended Dog Talents" And Im sure there's one to add some Warrior talents too.
