Hi wonderful internet people! (Dear god, I hoping I'm posting in the right place) I'm having a few problems with a combined 2.da/hak that utterly baffles me. I'm trying to combine RWS all in one (http://nwvault.ign.c...d=119651&id=327) with Alaster Wolf's updated city hak (http://nwvault.ign.c...l.Detail&id=513) so I can build a multitude of cities and towns in the realms while giving them all a unique look.

Both work fine on their own but when I ut the two together in the same module one "cancels out" the other and RWS usually comes out on top as I use it's (adjusted for the city.hak) 2.da for the module. If I put the city.hak above the 2.da hak in the module listings I can see the city.hak placeables in the toolset, but I cannot see the RWS ones and vice versa.
I combined the 2.da and have made sure none of the lines confict and have removed the 2.da files from the city.hak, but to no avail! I've tried the original haks together in the same module and then tried putting them together in the combined hak I am using but I am having the exact same problems as I was having when they where seperate modules.

I am utterly clueless when it comes to the finer points of 2.da and hak editing and I'd like some advice from the seasoned modding vets on these forums. What the f**k do I do?

Thanks in advance (and pardon my french). :wizard:

Okay, so the main thing about 2DA files such as placeables.2da is that there can be only one. So if you have more than one placeables.2da between the HAK files and your override folder, one of them is going to override the others. I'm not too clear on how you can use more than one HAK if they contain their own 2DA files, but I think the way they do it is to make a separate HAK file containing just the combined 2DA file, and put it in an order than makes it override the others. In my case, I'm using a single HAK with a single 2DA, and making sure there is no placeables.2DA in my override folder.

I might try putting the "master" 2.da I have in override and see what happens. Again, I I have made a mater 2.da out of the RWS 2.da and added the city.hak lines to it since they're compatible. What is the problem is whenever the 2.da is above the city.hak the placeables don't show, even when I edit the blueprints and if I do the opposite, e.g. put city.hak above the 2.da the city.hak placeables and blueprints are known to the games but the RWS ones are not.

Thanks for the help and I'll let you know what happens! ^.^

Even if I put my 2.da in override, only the RWS placeables and blueprints show. I should add I have removed the 2.da files from both the RWS resource hak and the city hak, (I did before testing them in my module) and there is no difference.

In your subject line you said "appearances", which I take to mean the listing under the "appearance" property of the blueprint, but everywhere else you're saying "blueprint".  Can you confirm that the appearances aren't showing up in your combined hak?

That is, look in the list of Appearances for the missing placeables.

Also, there is no period in the middle of the extension "2DA", which stands for "two dimensional array".

What you said is what I meant; The appearances do not show in the appearances list when editing the blueprint. Whenever I change the hak number (Or placement above or below the other hak), I still have the blueprints but whenever I place the 2da (sorry about the errant period, just a personal habit in correspondance, I'm not stupid enough to put it in the real 2da filename:lol:)  above the placeables appearance hak (I put the city.hak and the RWS hak together and removed their relevant 2das, one haks placeables appearances disappear and the others do not (This includes listing in the appearances list in blueprint properties). I think it might have something to do with the 2da file given placing (e.g. the 2.da hak above the placeable appearances hak and vice versa)  but I don't see how the 2da could cause the problem, or it could be confliciting resources? I also tried putting my modified 2.da file into override but it made the city.hak placeables disappear.

Sorry about this, but this problem is terribly frustrating ,and thanks for having the patience to discuss it with me:).

If there's any way for you to pack it up and let me take a look at it myself, I might be able to figure it out. Without being able to see it, I don't think I can help.

Looking at what you want to do and what your trying to do it with, I think your issue is with the two haks having a placeable2.da in them, the hak higher in the list gets its placeable.2da used over the one thats lower (if i remeber rightly).

You will have to extract the two placeable.2das and then take the 2da lines that reference all the specific models from that hak and apend them to the end of the other placeable.2da. Then stick this new placeable.2da back into one of the haks (making sure its now the only version of placeable.2da in both of them) and also stick a copy of it in your override folder (get rid or rename any other older version you have in the override).

If your trying or want to use the Blueprints found in the City Hak id deffinetly suggest you take the 2da lines from RWS all in one and stick em onto the end of the City Haks placeable.2da since when you load the blueprint erf from the City Hak it'll want to find lines associated with its 2da which will make all sorts of errors crop up if it finds blank entries, entries taht reference the wrong placeables or no lines at all.

Dont forget you will have to renumber the added lines as well, not sure about what sort of line padding RWS placeable.2da has. If its big you might not have any conflicts between the two and a simple cut and paste will work perfectly.

Ill download em myself and take a look see.

shakes fist at City Hak and RWS, why you no use winZip... and points at City hak, why you no stick 2das in seperate hak!

Nice your in luck, RWS placeable entries start at line 4500 City haks end at 4369 :P

So basicly open the two placeable.2da with notepad or wordpad cut and paste all the lines from 4370 and onward in RWS placeable.2da and then past that chunk onto the end of City haks placeable.2da and save this as your new placeable.2da. It should now work with both sets of haks (as long as its the only placeable.2da present mind you so remove rws and cityhak placeable.2das and just have teh new one in one of the hak files... and in your override folder)... or simpler, remove rws and city haks placeable.2das and make your own hak file that contains the new combine placeable.2da file and use that along side the modified RWS/City haks.

hope that makes sense.

edit:- Good lord i need my eyes checked, youve mentioned youve done all that already lol... how i missed that Ill never know. :(

Sorry for the hiatus. I've been busy with work the past few days. :P
I'm going to try sticking the RWS lines in the city.hak 2da and see what happens. If it doesn't work I guess I'll post what I've changed on the vault and link them here. Thanks guys. :)

Urrrgh after much ado and a new computer I've come back to pester you all for more help. I've got all my old stuff back from my harddrive and I think these are the files for the Hak combitation I had a problem with (see above :() and I was wondering if you guys would still be able to help me with it? (despite my abscence?)

The 2da: http://rapidshare.co..._in_one_2da.hak

The rest: http://rapidshare.co..._in_one_2da.hak

Sorry about the file names I must stress these files are NOT the original RWS haks but altered to seemingly fit with the city.hak mentioned above.

thanks!

You could download the hakpak package for my PW.  It has the City Hak, the BCKII and RWS all in one as well as several additional hak paks already combined.   There's also a template module there you can download which has all the haks in the proper order and blueprints for all the placeables etc in the hakpak.  You can get it here:

http://www.nwn2legends.com/downloads

Cheers,

M

Thanks a ton!

Out of curiosity, does it fit with the 2da lines on the NWN2 wiki?

Sorry Marshall, but I tried to implement it in my module but it didn't work.
It might be due to my lack of know-how but nothing showed up in the toolset.

Did you open the template module? The blueprints are in there. The lines in the 2da are mostly whatever the original creator used. I just merged and adjusted where there were conflicts.
