A couple notes of interest with my build (the "general purpose warrior" I mentioned a couple posts above): I'm currently level 12, and saving talent points to fill out the second spec as soon as I'm eligible at 14. I just killed Jarvia & cleared the Carta with my team (Wynne/Zevran/Sten) during which my warrior acted as tank just because she could (and yes, that's in nightmare difficulty).

The first thing I noticed as a plus for this build is that you don't need combat training at all at first, so you can safely invest in coercion and benefit from all those persuasion checks early on. And yes, a hundred sovereign from smuggling lyrium is definitely worth it.

My worries lie with what to do with my talents after I've maxed all those general skills (16 points down both specialization and both warrior lines), since I'm investing equally in dex, strength and willpower, I have a lot of stamina that I don't use apart from the occasional final blow.

Right now I'm considering going through the active weapon/shield (4 points for assault) and active archery lines (4 points for arrow of slaying) since I like to swap companions around a lot, and don't want my build to force me to bench any of them.

Templar gives something like +15 to mental resistence. So this is often a must have selection for me as its good to be able to resist some of those mage attacks. I also find clensing aura helpful as there are times my wizards get stuck in a crushing prison and I watch them slowly get crushed to death.

The second option is often much more difficult. But I often go with reaver, cause I found the stun attack seems to work most of the time. As a duel wielder I have some nice attacks but where they fail I use the word of pain or whatever its called and by some time to focus on killing.

near the end of the game you will damage more with regular attacks than special, cuz runes dont count in the damage with special attacks.

Two hand warriors dont mesh really well as Berserkers.

Max Str, Champion/Reaver is the basic cookie-cutter build. Great abilitys and surviveability.

I want to try Templar/Reaver sometime though.

^I would agree that 2 Hand does not mesh well with Berserker. Berserker works much better with S&S or DW since they rely on faster attacks. I personally think Champion/Templar is the best spec combo for a 2 Hand in Orgins. Taking Reaver to Frightening Appearance is not bad either, but I like Holy Smite better. Especially the PC, since both specs require a lot of talent points.

Now, once you go to Awakening - Spirit Warrior makes the warrior the absolete beast on the battle field. Forget backstabs or any of that stuff. Have your mage cast afflection hex and watch some 400 to 600 Mighty Blows, followed up with a 1,000 to 1,200 point Sunder Arms/Sunder Armor. And yes I said a 1,000 point Sunder Arms. Intensity Runes + Spirit Warrior + Hexes = EXTREME overkill.

Reaver is very underrated, especially for a dual wielder. I'm not sure why a warrior would not take champion spec for that aoe, debuffing knockdown ability(almost never seems to get resisted either, especially with high strength). People swear by templar, but I find holy smite to be completely unreliable and since my PC is usually the one eating the crushing prisons I find it better to just give alistair the cleanse ability. The 40% spell resist plate is great when you are fighting GaxKang, but I find it to be kind of crappy otherwise(Evon the Great's armor blows this out of the water in like 95% of your fights and gives a set bonus with wade's heavy dragonscale to boot!)

My next game is gonna be all warriors since you seemed to make it look so intresting.
templar/champion is pretty powerful as it stacking the two defnsive warrior builds and while some say Tempplars abilitys are situational they are really nice when you can use them. Im reminded of one epic situation I was in as a Templar once, I was at the final fight aginst Zathrian in the Braecillian forest and he paralysed all the npcs and my party except me. I cast Cleanse Area and all that was undone and we proceeded to molly whop him lol. I also do like the look of the Templar armors a bit, I wish i had the PC version so i could use some of the armor mods.

As for people speaking of Reaver ill break it down for the OP, Reaver has two abilitys that work well. Devour is a free heal basicaly and frightening appearance is a nice long duration stun based off your Str. Aura of Pain and Blood Frenzy are pretty useless (Im a fan of Aura of pain myself though) Champion is stupidly good, Berserker is only good for Single weapon or duel wild since basicaly it adds +8 damage per swing so on a faster hiting weapon this is preferable. Templar is the "Kooky" one of the 4 since it adds all anti magic abilitys offensive and defensive in nature. If you want to be pretty much unstopable champion/Templar is the way to go so i agree with Beancounter, but also Champion/Reaver is useful too.
Also OP having 4 Champions in your party Stacking rally is simply no fair for the Darkspawn lol let alone when they chain Warcry.

Hmm, I find Holy Smite to be quite reliable and I do not put any points in willpower.

Me too. I like the instant, ranged, no-LOS-required, AOE knockdown. It's like a ranged warcry that also does minor damage.

Most enemies that I would want to knock over seem to resist it. Knocking over non-elite enemies is not all that useful seeing that by the time I can even get holy smite my 2 handed sweep is almost killing them. It's more like a ranged, less reliable warcry(with a smaller radius) that does negligible damage. Don't get me wrong, knockdowns are great, and it's great that you can cast it at range, but if the hardest hitting enemy in the bunch is not affected....then it isn't doing its job

I thought Holy Smite also stunned; a nice perk for almost every occasion. That enchanted Templar in the Circle Tower certainly uses it well against my casters; reloads galore!

You don't think knocking down archers who are prepping a scattershot is useful? I'd almost call it invaluable. Besides, it's not like you're choosing between 2h sweep or warcry or smite. Use all three in succession and keep everyone on their butts until they're dead. Non-elites or not, keeping the enemy CC'd is useful in my book.

Yeah I like the reaver frightening appearance a lot because it seems to work on almost everything in the game(with good duration on most). I do like templar best as the 2nd spec(to champion) for a 2h warrior. Three aoe knockdowns is ridiculously good

I kinda wanna see how a Champion/Reaver Two Hand Warden does Running Aura of Pain while he AoE knockdown locks everyone.

Champion/Templar 2Hander without question. During the Branka quest (Nightmare), I ran and cleared a room with 2 Emissaries (yellow), several Archers (1 yellow), and a bunch of normals before I realized that I was by myself and I left my team on Hold. Priceless. For everything else, use American Express.

I must be building my 2Handers wrong, then.  Which is definitely possible, because I never use them as the PC and basically don't take Sten or Oghren anywhere.  I just can't get around the terribly slow attack speed and the fact that a miss is so costly because of it.

You have to work on your attack score intialy thats for sure, but it really sounds like your auto attacking.  As a two hander you NEVER want to be just auto attacking. Two hander is all about spaming your abilitys namely the sunders, mighty blow, critical strike and pommel strike.
