"[Legion] and the Geth were backed into a corner. They'd been made a lot dumber by the attack on the Dyson swarm. There was no other choice for Geth survival."

Legion has no reason to choose self-destruction over self-preservation. That is a completely organic response without real logic to back it up.

Legion doing what it takes to make sure the geth survive seems much more logical and "in character" for a lifeform designed to function on pure logic, like how the geth in ME2 are apparently suppose to be.

Yes, there was another choice: Just leave.

There was not reason to fight for Rannoch, in particular. Just f***ing leave. They don't even need atmosphere or even BODIES. Load up on a dreadnought and leave.
If you are virtually immortal you can go anywhere to build another Dyson Sphere and take as long as you please to get there.

I never get an answer from Geth supporters on these questions or issues.

Tali and Legion were having peace talks, Legion severed/stopped communication with Tali. The Council abandoned the Quarians, most races wouldn't help them because of the stereotypes and hate placed on them. The Quarian ships were in bad condition, even their life ships, they needed a place to repair their ships, keep their civilians safe, and a place to get materials/food etc. What do they do in this situation?

I allways hear from Geth supporters, "Geth only joined the Reapers because the Quarians attacked them(Dyson swarm/sphere)", If the Quarians didn't attack, would their have been that Reaper code Legion used to upgrade the Geth giving them true sentience?, If Quarians figured out attacking the Geth Dyson swarm/sphere made them weaker/dumber, wouldn't the Reapers do the same thing? would it have had the same result, as in the Geth choosing subjugation over extinction and siding with the Reapers?
