I am on my second playthrough and wanted to discover what I may have missed the first time through the game. Once inside Ostagar the Warden is asked by the quartermaster if she/he has seen an elf running around with some armor.  So decided to roam the camp looking for  this elf. to no avail. Does this npc actually exsist or is it mabye a refrence to Nessa from the city elf orgin? If I remember right her parents speak of heading to Ostagar due to being evicted from thier home.

There's an elf named Pick who's carrying a sword you can try to con him out of, but as far as I know, the elf with the armor exists only in that dialogue.

(I think the quartermaster says the same thing if you give Nessa enough money to stay in Denerim, so it may not be her.)

I'm guessing it's Pick if you're a male PC and some unnamed female if you're a female PC. Of course, that quartermaster is duller than Ser Jory so it could just be Pick for anyone.

If you are an elf yourself, the Quartermaster mistakes you for the elf and talks to you like dirt for a line or two before realising his mistake. I thought that was the only purpose of the line - to add a little touch of Ferelden racism in acknowledgement of your origin choice.

I assume it's a reference to Nessa if you're not a CE. If you're a non-elf (and therefore cannot be the CE), he'll ask if you've seen the red-headed elf girl. If you're an elf, regardless of your background, he'll angrily demand where his armor is before realizing who you are. I think this is supposed to show how racist humans are; they assume all elves are the same, or every elf they see is there to serve them.

I have to agree with Ferretinabun, it's there to add racism as well well as acknowledge your origin choice.

The elf in question was a she, or so the Quartermaster said to me
And such an elf can indeed be seen, at the table where Cailan and Loghain convene
Or so it seems, as her hair is red, much as the Quartermaster said
But no special dialogue can be had with her, she just continues her duties as she were
And after dark, she can be found no more, you must find her before completing Duncan's chore.

Ha! I was hoping someone named The Grand Oak Tree would make a post in his manner of speech. I'm happy to see that is the case.

I... think I love you.

OP: Yeah, as others have said I think it was just a line to acknowledge that you're an elf and that you are considered inferior to humans. I've never found anything more to it, anyway.
