Hi.
So, recently I've been playing through Dragon Age: origins again for the fortysecond time and was just reminded of the different item sets.
Even the basic ones, heavy plate armor and such had a set bonus even if the pieces were blank of any attributes short of base armor and fatgue drain.
In Dragon Age 2 I only remember one set per act and that I never wore any other completed sets than the Champions Armor Set.
I kind of like looking for the armor sets in DA:O even if they are a tad easy like the Jugganaut in the Brecillian Forest which is almost just handed to you.
I was wondering what other felt about this, did you enjoy the sets and their bonuses or would you find it forcing the player to wear full sets if they had attributes that better competed with each individual piece?
Item set/piece attributes.

I don't think it was bad. I think it was pretty good--as long as there's a balance. DA:O was BURSTING with Warrior armors (at the expense of rogue and mage). DA ][ had like one per act. There should be a balance somewhere in between there.

I always just mix different pieces to get the best armour rating

I prefer to have a couple choices of set armors that do different things - like one set for speed and one for more damage. Having only one set per act (with a hidden set bonus) made me feel obligated to go for the set pieces and not bother with individual armor pieces.

honestly?? i dont really like the armor in the games, i download armor mods because they look better, thats all i use armor for is to look good, im very vain when it comes to my characters in a single player game, the amount of hours i spent using that damn mirror but thats another story lol, before i found decent armor mods id basically do what michaelstuart done an mix an match things to my taste in what looked good appearance wise

Yeah, I always tend to mix and max for the best available stats.I always just mix different pieces to get the best armour rating
If the Set-Bonuses were actually worth anything I might attempt to collect the armour sets and actually use them together, in perfect harmony, but they really aren't worth it when you consider how easily you can focus your stats when you disregard them.

I did like the concept of the set bonuses, which gave a cool reason to have certain items for together, like the Legion of the Dead quest and set that had a good lore and background to it. I'd like to see more of those kinds of integration of story and quests with equipment in future games.

Yeah I missed the equipment stories a lot, in general descriptions in DA2 was largely simplified.
If i remember correctly the dalish amulets you can collect during Merrill's act 2 quest are described "Plot item"

I love to read a backstory about my equipment, particularly if it's armor that will give me a set bonus and doubly so if it's good enough to keep me or a companion wearing it for a while instead of replacing pieces higgly-piggly. Of course color matching would help reduce the motley appearance of stats-based armor decision making...

I love legendary sets as I like to call them. Sets that are usually slightly better than the standard but most importantly have a backstory and custom look. I would like the ability to get more than one per act as long as I have to go looking for them rather than just picking them up through main quest.
