Has anyone tried to go rogueless?

I'm inclined to go toward a somewhat bizarre Warrior/Shale/Wynne/Morrigan party, which would be a sort of dual tank with a DPS mage and a healing mage. Mostly because I want to keep Morrigan but Shapeshifter seems not to compliment healing very well, and Shale just seems awesome. Since I definitely would need a healer, though, I thought of going with Wynne instead of a rogue.

Does anyone know if there are locked chests/doors throughout the game that are especially interesting, or would losing the lockpicking ability be fairly uneventful? As a tangent, how do I do the DA:O equivalent of detecting traps?

About five hours into the game, I don't have in my first party yet and it's really annoying me - there area lot of chests.

The set traps ability is used to detect traps, but only rogues can disarm them.

I am using a rogueless group right now. I am annoyed at passing up chests but its only the first playthrough. I plan on being the rogue next run so I don't run into that problem.

i personally think rogue is a great class to be and to have in your party.

rather than tanking the damage and engage enemies head-on, if you get your stealth, trap, and poison-making skills to a decent level, you can probably wipe 3-4 mobs in like 5 min.

At first i didn't know the usefulness of the rogue so i was aimlessly sending my party to death, then constantly running and healing...but the poisons and traps can really help decreasing the number.

also, traps are essential if you want to make ez money xD

of course, rogue is needed because of trap-detecting, scout, trap-disarming, and chest-unlocking

I tried using Zevran in my party once I got him but I'm having no luck whatsoever with him in there - I'm playing a mage and really I need someone to keep the enemy off of me, so Sten and Shale it is.

My main character is now a rogue..the ultimate utility. My DPS when flanking and backstabbing easily rivals the tank, and she's the perfect scout and ambusher. For instance, you can launch vials of toxic poison without losing stealth.

Also there's no worse feeling in any game than leaving a chest unlocked.

Must have.

my main dps and main tank is now my PC, arcane warrior with Blood Dragon Armor.

Then, Leillana as rogue, and Allistar with Morrigan to have fun. But chests are full of crap and Leilly sucks. Im gonna replace her with Golem or Stan probably.

Stalky what you said about chests is interesting. Has anyone found that there's actually interesting, useful loot in chests, or is it just a way to get some free XP (for unlocking) and extra gold (middling loot to sell)?

This is really a key question.  As I asked in another thread, if:

(1) I'm forced to take a rogue to get the loot; and
(2) I'm forced to take a healer to stay alive; and
(3) I'm forced to take Morrigan (nuker) and Alistair (sword/board) on the first playthrough because they are the best-developed characters (from what I've heard).  (At least the way I look at it, I'm forced, because story and character is so huge in Bioware that I kind of just HAVE TO take the best characters.)

Well, if all that's true, then I'm left with no choice in party composition.  So I'm very interested in this thread.

Ideally, somebody would pop up who has played all the way through both WITH and WITHOUT a rogue and can tell us how important it is.  Of course, here the day after release, it's probably a bit over-optimistic - Posted Image - to expect that.
