So recently I've noticed alot of negativity on BSN twoards rookies who are trying to made transtions to higher difficulties or just figure out how toplay the game. Everyone was a noob once, and I've seen tooo many threads complaining about them. Whenever I see someone who's got a low level loadout I welcome the chance to try and give them some expeince in hgiher difficulty levels, sure it may be a bit tougher but we all had to start out somewhere. Me and my friends always welcome the chance, as long as we think we can take it.
It's a sign of the growing community, and the simple fact of the matter is to everyone complaining about new people on gold. YOU HAVE TO PLAY WITH THEM, if you don't ever actually let any rookies play, how will they ever gain experince, and actually be able to compentenly play that level (actually some rookies are quite good, not that a majority o the people here would give them the chance to find out.) that you keep on complaining they don't have enough expeirnce to be in???
Honestly, if anything we should all be trying our best to help them, teach them how to reload cancel, share builds whatever! in the end your'e just making the community you play in all the better. We were all rookies once.
And also, any rookies (yes I know not many visit BSN, but theres an off chance) who are trying to transtion to gold, or want some gameplay tips, shoot me a msg (PS3) and I'll see if I can help.
I welcome new people as well, but there is a point where they are trying to rush their progression through the levels. Over xmas game was on a great sale, so that is where we got some new players. Grabbed it for my cousin in fact, and unfortunately trying to teach him the game frankly is slowly killing me. He is awesome in Battlefield 3, and other FPS, but wants to walk in top the score board. regardless if it means actually doing objectives etc... He has all the horrible mannerisms that anyone who has played the game has. Opts out of objectives "to clear the way", but has no idea where the spawn points are, or the mechanics enough to actually benefit the team by doing it. He doesn't seem himself properly. He is a really good can carry Bronze, and a midrange silver player, but not even remotely ready for gold, unless I take him in, and baby sit and ride his ass the whole time to not be a stupid. I have encouraged lots of players that they are ready for transition, and even add them to my friends list, and when my normal team needs a 4th they get the offer to raise up into the majoirs. Ways to know if you are ready for Gold at least have your avenger maxed to level x, and you'll still not be scoring well. The ability to stay alive in my opinion most important out of scoring well. At least be a good decoy if you can't kill things. Learn the weak points on all the enemies before transitioning. I am even willing to bypass those thing if you have a working mic, and are willing to accept directions. It is basic learning with super rare exceptions if you got the game over xmas you should not be in gold yet. If you top the score board with your avenger every time in silver than welcome to gold. If not devlope your skill, and we'll see you soon.

New has nothing to do with being a competent player, that much is pretty evident to me. I've played with a lot of new people that tried their best, made some errors but added to the team dynamic.
I've also played with a lot of 'non new' players that have combat skills but nothing else between the ears.
This is very true and something that made me smile over the Christmas holidays. My son (26) and his better half were home for the holidays, that means gaming-beer-eating-four wheeling:) Anyhow he is the one that talked me into MP being my first online game, when he was a teen, he was (I Guess) playing with some of the top in COD-Halo.....I know little to zip about these games other than they have guns and you shoot things.
Anyhow we talked about MP, I was showing him my manifest and the challange system, he watched me play two gold games with friends then asked if he could try, he wanted a kit with my best sniper, I gave him the SI-BW, he came in second in silver, first try. They went to gold, he got a third and two seconds.
Point being, some players are naturally gifted at games, I am not one of them, I have pounded 1,300 hours to get where I am, starting in Bronze and working up, I tried the FBW camp twice, it wasn`t for me so my manifest for the most part came the hard way.
So you are right, myself and others that take a newer player into gold are often shocked at how well they do, really puts a smile on my face, there are a lot of players here and in pugs that are a lot better than they give themselves credit for, this is why back in October I pug a silver and if they are reasonable, offer to take them into gold, very, very few have not resulted in extraction and many of these guys-girls now come to BSN and we still run together.

To clarify : you don't need to be uberleet when you pick up ME3 MP to play Gold. You need a modicum of common sense (Don't stand in the middle of an open area, etc..) and basic aiming skills.
Survivability is paramount when you start the game. Clear times probably will be longer because you don't know the game mechanics/have meh guns/mods/gear, but you can still clear gold without too much trouble.

I'm just happy that im now good enough to support weaker players on silver. About 2 months ago i did a silver match with low N7 with one of my better kits and it was a nightmare. Yesterday, I took a character ive hardly ever played to a match with low N7 and i did a pretty good job I thought (although to be fair, it was a level 20 SI with Krysae X and Operator V and no consumables but ive never played snipers or infiltrators before). I didnt carry the team per se, i only got about 70k compared to their 30-40k, but i did get 10 revives medal and saved them from phantoms a lot, and pretty much had to do the wave 6 assassinations on my own, and had to finish wave 10 alone.
But thats just silver. Id be pretty stressed doing that on gold.

Despite there having been many changes to the game since then, I and a lot of other people were beating gold at N7s below 40 (for me, QI sniping with a carnifex I) when the game first came out. All you really need is decent aim (for headshots) and common sense survival/shooter know-how like JH talked about.
As long as you're a good teammate, i.e. bother to revive and are willing to use your consumables, I don't even mind if you're a bad player.

It's pretty hard to not survive as a kroguard, so I'd imagine quite a long time unless they just didn't understand the fundamentals of the class at all. That predator wouldn't put me off at all, personally.

He appeared in at least three of my silver PuGs over the course of two weeks, and every time I saw him after the first game (where he hid in a corner for half the match...and in the other matches too), I would groan and just spend the whole game ****ing at him (mic off of course). He's become a myth, a legend, a frightening bedtime story...I haven't seen him in a month or two, but I always hold my breath when I make my lobby public....

I would and have taken ones like that, especially Reepers gold, if heéshe wants to charge around and kill those friggin husks while we focus on other stuff, its all good as long as they do not venture too far. It`s funny you post this as last night we had a Kroguard, no question he-she was new due to N7-CP-Weapon, BUT they had level one equipment, we took them through three golds and they did very well, actually a very smart player who knew their limits, stayed away from Banshee`s and Brutes and did objectives.

Unless you are new to Vanguards in MP and just spam charge all the time, which a Kroguard doesn't do. No if he had the pistol stunner mod... from buying Veterian packs instead of Arsenal or Renforcments, then we'd be talking a different scrub. My guess is he died a lot to Ravager goo and got sync-killed by a Brute or two.
Even when I was 'new' to the demo, guess where the first place I went to look for tips and tricks. Nope some 3rd party site, right here to BSN.
Played a game yesterday where I dumped into in progress Firbase White Geth Gold, yep two new players trying to farm FWGG early 2012 style, and getting owned. How to I know it was intentional? Because first thing I hear upon landing in the match is "hey guys, get down here!" I stopped trying to revive them after Wave 5 and just let them die to Bombers, Drones, and Pyros. Clearly they had found the old Farming guide someplace and thought it was still valid.

As have I. Asumming, because one is a Kroguard, they will do at least decent is setting yourself up for failure. Especially when said Kroguard is carrying nothing but a level II predator with ULM.

I would never condone anti-noob-kroguard prejudice.
But the first time I ever tried one, they ninja'd the difficulty from bronze to silver between games, and I got slaughtered. It was embarrassing, and they kicked me afterwards.
The Kroguard is not a win button.
Edit: Sorry, Yosuke, fixed that for you. In my defence, I read through quickly.

No, it is certainly not. I am no stranger to vanguards but I only tried to use the Kroguard once and it went very worng. It was a melee build and it was Geth/Condor/Gold. I spent A LOT of time dead.

I say good, because he has topped the score board in Battlefield 3 a few times.( Better score than both teams. ) The couple times the silver lobby decided we should do gold, while I was baby sitting he didn't entirely drool on himself, and shame the family name, but that doesn't mean him and his low level avenger belong there. Plus, he had the benefit of my specing his charecters with proven awesomeness of you, Dumael, Stardusk, Annomander, and everyone else shear genius builds. So think that helped a lot. I used him as an example, because he didn't entirely fail on gold, even got him to extraction in one piece with random public lobbies, but on his own with just a random public lobby he probably doesn't belong there unless a concensus of a silver lobby decide we've got this lets up the difficulty.Jay_Hoxtatron wrote...
