Use pc tails to make bottoms for characters like yuan ti tails, centaur bodies, and mermaid tails. That way it doesn't have to be a new phenotype to make a dynamic version of those races.
Another idea...

I am already thinking about that actually for yuan ti tails! Hadn't thought of mermaid tails, would be a great replacer for the terrible stiff one we have now! Centaur body would sort of work? But for those, you would probably generally want the torso seated higher than it is. Perhaps a special mount instead for that.

The mermaid tail by Lisa in CEP is set up as a pelvis. If one wanted to, they could probably move the mermaid tail to a regular tail (with an offset to take into account the difference between pelvis pivot and tail node pivot) and possibly even benefit from the tail scaling. Tails don't always play the animations you'd expect and that should be taken into consideration. But probably not as big a problem with this application of the idea. FWIW.

Some example art for inspiration for how the body and lower tail would attach / scale patterns.

Also look at the maralith skin in game, that has a nice tail animation like a yuan ti would use.
