How much DA][ you want in DA:I?

Posté 18 janvier 2013 - 09:08
The super ninja enemies popping out of the sky
The Anime style combat
The reused dungeons
The empty cities
The bland textures
The story just for the sake of cramming one in
The disjointed and awkward cameos of past companions
The dialog wheel that doesn't say what you thought you said.
No companion customization
Auto upgrades
Bad combat and character animation
Missing textures galore
And most importantly, if all NPC's and PC characters don't have the same exact necrotic, skeletal hand mesh, it'll be a deal breaker for me.

Considering I don't think that what happened to DA2 is overall a "bad idea", we'll have to agree to disagree there (OMG opinions!). Also, I don't mean forget all about it, just don't ask for a DAO clone (or a DA2 one). Or do, but prepare to be disappointed. Learn from the past, but don't get stuck there.Mantaal wrote...

I do prefer DAO by a long, long mile (it is my Best Game Forever, after all), but 1. it's not flawless, 2. Both games still share many common features, 3. not everything in DA2 is deserving the trashcan and 4. what does is in the eye of the beholder.
So, to answer the OP (now that I'm done beating that poor dead horse),
- VO
- Cross-class combos
- Junk tab in the inventory
- "Independent" Companions and Friendship/Rivalry system (but perfected), also PC intervening in banters.
- Auto-aim or whatever the "go for the next available enemy" feature is called.
- Gear that level-up
- Stealth missions and puzzles (MotA, Legacy)
- Deadly killer cheese wheel from Hell.
The lists of what I want from DAO and what I don't want from DA2 would both be probably longer, but that's not the topic at hand.

Honestly? Nothing, I want DA2 to stay the hell away from DAI.How much DA][ you want in DA:I?
Oh wait, there IS something! I liked Cassandra a lot and I think she totally deserves a bigger role in DA3.
Yeah, thats about it.

1)Merril as companion(she is like a Tali for me:)), and see Isabella/Lelianna/Cassandra to just killing them all with blood magic...and killing Hawke/Carver/Cullen...and maybe Nataniel
2)to see my friend magister Danarius and his Fenris slave-prototype weapon...damn i really want somethink like his Lirium Vasalin for my Elven/Kossind blood/battle mage
I want all things(especially Races, and PLAYABLE Origins(but Races in priority) from DA:O and Awakening, and NOTING MORE... especially i do not want to see that damn multiplayer

NONE becouse DA 2 sucked in every possible way.
- Boring story with your actions not having realy any impact.
- extremely repetetiv combat system. Felt like i was playing a very bad hack n slay.
- shallow NPCs with no personality at all.
- the "crafting" system is a joke at best.
- 0 variety in the enviroments. Kirkwall felt like it was a dead city.
- Hawk is a boring and uninteressting character.
and i could keep on but i do not feel like wasting too much time with this disgrace of a game.
Look i really understand what you say.
I also agree that DA2 was the worse Game Bioware ever made. And i know alot peoples agree with that. (Just have to take a look at the preview rating on almost every site)
But i have to say that DA][ did almost suck in every possible way. It had its good parts also. Most of them need a bit work though. Like the Rivaly system. Its not that cool as it was in DA2 but it could be really cool.
An other thing is the Cross class Combos in battles. In DA][ it wasnt that great since they doesnt really matter. Who cares if you make an Combo on 1 or 2 enemys of those 40 you slaugher per wave? But in a good Combat system the Combos could be really cool.
Saveing wile you move on was good too.
And i really like the new Qunari look.
I think its also a good way to make more romances possible for both Genders. I only wish there would be a button in the Options or Charakter generation where you could set your personal sexual preferrences. Sometimes it irritates me when a Guy tries to flirt with my Charakter. Not that im against that at all. It would just be nice to have a option to turn it off if you dont want it. Same for gay peoples. They could turn off the flirt attempts from Girls and so on.
It would be cool to stay friends with Anders without jumping in his bed :)
Well as much as i hate DA 2 i gotta admit you do have some points there and i agree with you. Let us just hope that Bioware realizes that a LOT of people put their last bit of trust into this game. If they screw up DA:I like they did with DA 2 then i do not think that i will buy another Bioware game ever again.

Then i tried to reign that in and think more objectively.
So here's a list of things that could make a return from DA2, and not ruin the game instantly by association:
- The Friendship/Rivalry system (Though it needs work)
- The faster, more action orientated combat system (though it needs to have more depth in it than DA2's 'hit x to win' system)
- The skill tree system (Though this definitely needs work, especially for companions, since companions in DA2's system, are forced into one role defined by the developer, and not the player. That needs to change)
- The way companions interacted more in dialogue than in origins. Also, it was great getting them to do things as well. Such as using Fenris to do his heart-punch thing, if you wanted people dead while talking to them. This kind of interaction is really welcome, and can make quest play out differently depending on who you bring (although that was probably aveline + anders most of the time, thanks to a gimped skill system. Sorry, i had to throw in some negativity >_>)

I did like that combat was faster but felt it went a bit too far.
Crafting was alright. It was nice to not have to lug all the components around in your inventory but aside from runes I never felt the need to craft anything, and even with runes it was more because I could than that I needed to. Also couldn't craft mana/health potions, definitely would have used potion crafting more were those an option.
None of DA2 was bad in my opinion but nothing really wow'd me. There's nothing in it that I'd absolutely have to have in the next game. Maybe DA:I will expand on a few things and wow me but DA2 just had adequate mechanics and a story and characters I honestly couldn't have cared less about.
So I guess maybe the faster combat would be a nice carry over, could probably drop crafting all together given we're really just buying the stuff. Ooh could that be an option? Telling the people who sell the crafted stuff to get their own damn ingredients?

Cross-class combos
The Responsive combat (no shuffling backwards to a certain distance to stab an enemy with a dagger)
Being able to move my party members to certain spots on home consoles ( Needs to be improved upon though)

Does it matter? What I would like and want to see is not BioWare's priorty like Toolset and my choice of DR which resulted Morrigan's son's story arc. Intead, what I don't like and don't want to see is BioWare's priority like autodialogue, railroaded story with meaningless choices and many more.

Friendship/Rivalry
Unique companion outfits
Fenris
Templar/Mage interactions (Although I would like to see more grey for both sides then what was shown in DA2, I still feel it was a good start though).

It skipped so much narrative so often. I mean, one moment I'm fighting spiders in the deep road, then there was a loading screen, and then I'm walking around Kirkwall like ten goddamn years later? What the hell was that? There's no continuity there.
Also, by the end of DA 2, I literally had no idea what Hawke's roll in that fight was. I thought maybe I screwed up or something and got a weird ending with that mage chick or whatever, because that made no sense; it seemed completely unrelated to anything I had done up to that point.
Actually, Dragon Age II for me just had felt like it couldn't be bothered. Like it was just thrown together out of varying bits of scrapped story ideas.
OH, and leave out those modular dungeons. I get that it's probably more efficient to just close off certain passages in a single dungeon map to represent a new dungeon, but that was a lame move.
Actually, just work on the environments more just on the whole.
Seriously, I played the demo and thought it was okay. When I actually played the game, I was bloody shocked. That entire opening level... I thought it looked like that because it was the demo. I didn't expect the actual game to look that ****. It looked like a Playstation 1 game environment but with less stuff in the background.
1)Merril as companion(she is like a Tali for me[smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie])

Well if we're being fair it is a fairly easy comparisson. The Dalish and the Quarians are both forced to live as nomads for reasons that are arguably their own fault (or arguably not). Both Tali and Merril fill the sweet, socially awkward role (though Tali does grow out of it by the second game, perhaps Merril would as well). Both are exceptionally skilled in a particular expertise despite being young. Both come from backgrounds that made their childhoods difficult and distanced them from their peers. I could go on, but this is largely off topic.

I loved that once you maxed out with a companion, they stayed maxed out.
I liked that your dog could be used anytime without loosing a companion.

I dont think it matters for Bioware. But its interesting for me.
I have a feeling that DA:I will not be much differet from DA2. Maybe they avoid the Level recycling and make the maps larger. But i dont think they will go back to the DA:O playstyle. I hope im wrong and they surprise me but i dont have much hope in the DA series anymore.
But as long we dont know i think its interesting to talk about it.
