And even then, I'd bet money we'd see a lesbian lead far before a gay male lead because there's still that male-driven focus, and most guys are cool with girls loving girls. But there's still a layer of homophobia there as far as guys loving guys goes, which is why we apparently can't have a new IP with a gay male lead.

What is the link between "grow up, gaming" and "gay lead character"?
Riddle me that.

I don't believe there's a homosexual lead to any game yet, male OR female. If there is, I'm not aware of one. Girls or guys, they're either heterosexual or bisexual.
Here's one: Hana Tsu Vachel from Fear Effect. If I remember right, that was their major selling point for the second game. It must not have made that big of a splash as hardly anyone remembers it today.

He is saying that there would be an outrage among alot of male gamers if they give us a game at some point with a gay leading character, while there is no need for that since a gay character is just as normal as a straight chraracter.
Its all about tolerance.

The supposition that we would accept a lesbian protagonist before a gay male protagonist certainly has implications of the "hur hur lesbians" mindset which would be immature.Kronner wrote...

Not being able to accept a gay lead protagonist in general could also be because of veiled bigotry which would be an immaturity of beliefs. Maybe you rationalize it differently.

(I started playing the first installment recently and have heard that it's ultra-hard to get happy conclusion for the pair in sequel.)

Entirely possible - I have to admit I'd never actually played the games, so all I know was what I got out of magazines and the like. Oh well, I tried, lol

On the gay lead thing, yeah, we won;t see that for a looooooooonnngggg time. I don't even expect to see a high profile game like that ever made, it would be too controversial, and not in the good way. A game like that would not sell well, at all. Gaming is still the territory of the geezers, the lads if you know what I mean, they love some girl-on-girl action but they see two blokes being affectionate towards each other they need to go and scrub out the image etched on their brain.
Many(most?) guys just are not comfortable seeing guys get cozy with other guys, it's ingrained. I don't think it will ever change tbh, a hell of alot of social brainwashing would have to take place for attitudes to change.

I don't care either way, but after reading Sam's diaries and seeing her behavior, I was starting to wonder. Or maybe I just like lesbians.
All the crew's diaries were like that. Everything they wrote was all "LARA!!! SQUEEEEE!!!" Sam also mentioned her and Lara on a trip with alot of cute guys.
Then again I find caring either way about a fictional characters sexual orientation a waste of time. I'd be more concerned with how they will expand upon things like survival, puzzles, actual tomb raiding and maybe move away from being a shooter to a degree as opposed to who Lara is getting it on with.

Uhh everyone. You can have a non-heterosexual character be the lead series of a successful media. As long as you don't keep it as the "main focus".

I miss you Xena, you warrior princess you.
But anyway, games are the point. Gaming is still quite young, and still hasn't evolved to the point where its mature enough to accept things like lead homosexual characters.
Movies were like that too in their infancy.

Robin Atkin Downes (Roth)
Vladimir Kulich (Nikolai/Solarii)
Full cast and crew on imdb.
My husband thinks I'm weird for being able to pick voices out in games.

Oh, and BTW, Varric Tethris' VA (DA2) is in the new Gears (Brian Bloom). His is an easy one to pick out, though.
Back on topic, I still need to go back and pick up the few remaining collectibles I missed. Sometime.

Witcher is a prime example of two approaches. Books contain valid gay storylines, always for sake of story and because they're a part of character. I almost never hear people discussing this aspect. Games use such characters to titillate and it has a desirable effect. Ask people about the game and they almost always bring that up.
It can be also done properly, not just as a fetish.

Not true. Reyes didn't like Lara for majority of the game remember. And the other archeaologist admired Lara but wasn't squee over her, and ends up throwing her under the rug. The only ones that really "SQUEE" are Sam and Alex. Possibly Roth... but that's a fatherly proud squee.
I worded that badly. I meant all the diaries were just an excuse for people to talk about Lara. Almost all of them shoehorned a mention of her in. Sam just suffered from having absolutely nothing else to talk about because she existed simply to be Lara's friend and get kidnapped/be Japanese.
Anyway that's about as close as I'd like to get to discussing the sexual orientation of people who don't exist. Life is short enough.
The game was excellent, but the fact that there will be no single player DLC means I'm done with it for now and will sell it. Might pick it up again in a couple of years for another playthrough. Looking forward to the sequel.
