It is my personal GOTY so far.
I don't know about that, but it is definitely the best of the TR series by far. The only thing disappointing about this game is it's lack of replayability. Had they made the game where you can play it again, and then start off where you can get the remaining upgrades, etc, that would have been cool. Backtracking to previous camps and then searching was a bit of a turn-off for me, but that's me. Otherwise, this game rocks so much. The graphics (if you have the PC version and your PC can handle it) are incredible.
Actually, even though the replayability isn't so great, I think I'm going to find myself coming back to this game every couple of months for another playthrough. My first was on launch and I was sadly effected by a tesselation glitch so I had to turn that off. They've fixed that now so I'm thinking about doing another playthrough just for that (little difference but it goes a long way). Plus with every patch they released for the game it's made TressFX more smooth and less demanding each time.
Can't wait to get back into the role of Lara and stick some arrows in people's knees!
Tomb Raider.

What LP? Pretty sure Lara isn't a lesbian
Not that we know of, at least. Trust me, I was telling people that they were seeing things that weren't there when they were headcanoning something between Lara and Sam.
Then you find out that the writers had considered making Lara dig chicks romantically. Technically they could still do that, don't know if they will.
Doesn't really matter to me, thats up to them. As long as its done for the sake of the character and not the masses, I'm all for it.
so yeah those are words from the comic writer that is writing this comic that is canonical as it does tie into the sequel so...
But yeah this is easily my game of the year... Though I also really liked The Swapper and Remember Me... but yeah that's my Trio.

Oh, they clearly knew what it was and thought that it wasn't that bad, you know, the game where you see a women impaled on a dead tree and beaten to death if you make a wrong move(talk about negative reinforcement.)
Whoa, whoa whoa.
I was playing violent games at that age and I'm a upstanding citizen and generally all round sexy awesome guy who possibly can't be crazy. I mean I only have psychopathic thoughts sometimes.

I was expecting something closer to hardcore survival like the beginning of the game, which would've been a tremendous gameplay element. But ever since I finished my first playthrough, I've never picked it back up. Just doesn't feel like there's much reason to.

Good game, but not my game of the year. That's between Metro Last Light and The Last of Us. Blood Dragon and State of Decay would be in the top 5 as well.
Pretty much agreed on this, though haven't played a couple of these Metro Last Light was great. Tomb Raider surprised me though. Was fun to play.

Good news that was already evident once they annouced the comic... ;P
The best part of that blog though was seeing Square actually acknowledge TR as a hit.

Didn't play TLoU, me being a PC Pleb. So TR remains my personal GoTY this year, with Bio Infinite behind that.. but as I keep seeing more of AC IV I seriously feel its gonna be dethroned by that game..

Tomb Raider's plot is simple, but its writing is strong where it needs to be. The "she's just one girl," exchange doesn't just mean a lot to Lara to hear it, but I like to think a lot to a community where publishers still wont fund a project because the protagonist is a girl. Yes the side characters are shallow, but did they need to be deeper? I like that it focused on Lara, and it would have been a completely different game if it actually took the time to build up each character equally. I think the only other two characters that really could have used more build up is maybe Sam and Mathias but I think what you get if in the journals is sufficient. Plus this is the only blockbuster(if not few games) out there that has a friendship between two girls as a main focus of the game and I found it very moving and intense. That made me connect with Lara on a more personal level then I ever had in the past and I think that's not an easy thing to do successfully to a character who's existed since 96'.

The plot was fine, not mind blowing stuff or anything, but that is to be expected. It is after all an adventure game. The side characters were indeed a bit shallow, but as Lenimph said, they focused on the characters that were important. which made up for it.

Very excited about this. Never doubted that a sequel would be released eventually, but this announcement pretty much strikes while the iron is hot.IntelligentME3Fanboy wrote...

Lara’s pursuit and journey to becoming a Tomb Raider is almost an involuntary obsession. It starts as her being an archeology geek, but it becomes an all-consuming passion that ultimately she’s willing to risk her life for. And so part of Lara’s journey is to struggle with balancing what it means to be a young person growing up, and what it means to have the responsibilities of a Tomb Raider. Lara has to prioritize. She doesn’t have room for a significant other in her life – she doesn’t have enough left over after archeology and what becomes Tomb Raiding. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have feelings.
So what we play with a little bit during her journey in these early years is the tension between the life she might have lead if she didn’t get sucked down this rabbit hole. We’re delivering on not the normal life, but the Tomb Raider life. She is so dedicated and obsessed and focused that she doesn’t have room for these other things
I'm kinda happy because it went into a direction I was hoping; that her obsession with tombs would gradually make her an antisocial loner.

Seriously though, I'm glad they're not going to try to shoehorn in any kind of romantic subplot.
