Haha, Moneysoft be bangin' Laura exclusively now. Haha.

I doubt it'll sell consoles, but then I don't have numbers telling me whether this stuff works or not.
Halo's Master Chief Collection I ABSOLUTELY believe will sell consoles.
Tomb Raider? I don't know if its strong enough.
Camilla Luddington is a better Tomb Raider than Angelina Jolie, I liked the last one and will give the next one a try once it's on sale
I highly doubt Tomb Raider will be fully exclusive to Xbox.
I see it as highly suggestive PR and legal speak, and so it will prolly be timed exclusive.
I'm still trying to see how making the next TR an XBox1 exclusive is in any way a good idea. The first game sold pretty well across platforms, yet the results were still said to be behind some weirdly high expectations - so let's make sure to reach these unrealistic goals next time by only releasing on a single next gen console that isn't even the most prevalent one?! Seems legit... ![]()
Welp.
Looks like I'm sitting this one out. Thanks Square.

lol Angry Joe's rant, I dunno if it's just because I don't care about Tomb Raider or I've mellowed out in general, but I'm just like, "Who cares?"
Just calm down, it's a game... exclusives happen.

He went off on who, Microsoft? Square Enix? Both? Because we don't have details on how this came about exactly and he might want to wait as far as the blame game goes, unless he's just venting.
Reminds me of how not too long ago people were pooping on Microsoft and EA saying they were "partnered" because the Xbox One got EA Access and the PS4 didn't;except it came out that Sony declined EA Access even though it was offered to them because it'd compete with their PS Now service, although they worded it as, "we evaluated EA Access as not being a good enough value for our gamers"
I think people forget things go corporate across the board.

Mainly Square Enix it looks like for 'selling out the fans', with his antipathy for Microsoft just kind of in the background, something where it just goes without saying that they're corporate moneybags etc.
At least that's what I got from around the first five minutes of the video before I'd had enough. ![]()
But it's different when an IP has always been multiplatform (since TR's creation in 1996, really), only to go exclusive in the second game of the reboot, or having always been an exclusive, i.e.: Uncharted, Halo, etc etc.
Microsoft must have paid them enough to make up for lost sales from PS and PC.
Although, I'm slightly amused at how they tossed PS and PC gamers a bone with 'don't worry, you guys still get Temple of Osiris for PC and the Definitive Edition for PS4.'

Ahh. I realized long ago I couldn't even bother with his videos. I'm too positive. If I listen to someone vent, its gotta be less...Joe'ish.

This is what's up.
Lara has been available to everyone. Even on the freakin DS and Wii at one point in time... Plus the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition sold better on PS4 and the fanbase is mostly Sony/PC people because that's what has been around the longest....
Also yaaaaaas Angry Joe yaaaaas
What a stupid move. **bleep** Cyrstal Dynamics.
Don't blame the developers when this was something Square and Microsoft came up with. I have a feeling that CD isn't truly happy with it either.

I think this just illustrates the desperation video game companies face in many respects, they have almost nothing to sell on so the news of one (potentially) good game upsets the apple cart completely.
I got a Wii U because at the time I was like in terms of # of games I want to play it's 2 vs. 0 (xbox1) vs. 0(PS4). Now it's 2 vs. 1. vs. 0. Rather than shift my attention to Xbox I'm more likely to just abandon the current gen entirely, 2 was never really enough in the first place, 1 definitely isn't enough.
The two for Wii U are Bayonetta 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles X by the way.
Personally, I think people just don't like exclusives generally because they feel like selling based on money rather than merit. The PS4 and XB1 are practically identical AFAIK, so this just means Microsoft isn't selling Xbox1 based on the systems merits, but rather artificial seeming restraints on trade tied to a 3rd party product. (hope I'm using those terms somewhat correctly)

It does seem like a pretty nonsensical decision when the majority of their fanbase has always been on Sony consoles.
I pointed this out over at IGN, but it bears repeating here:
Fat chance.
TR 2013 sold over 6.5 million copies -- by the time all is said and done, it'll definitely be over 7 million. The entire install base of the Xbox One console is only 5 million. We can make some optimistic estimates: Xbox One continues to sell at its present rate and doubles its install base by next year, and Tomb Raider 2 2 sells to a whopping 20% of install base (for comparison, blockbuster exclusive Halo 3 hit 14.4%). That would be 2 million sales. They'd be down 5 million sales from the previous title due to that deal, and that's a generous estimate. I'm betting it's a timed exclusive. There's no way in hell that Microsoft is paying them $50+ million in additional cash for exclusivity. Microsoft can't possibly recoup that. I'm not sure timed exclusivity isn't a bad idea as well, but it's hard to overstate what an absolute cluster**** a full exclusive would be.
Seriously! I don't know what Microsoft spent to make that seem like a good idea. ![]()
"With this deal we're guaranteed to sell significantly less games, but in exchange for the lost sales we're able to alienate a huge part of our (former) customers."

This is what I'm hoping, but that press release on the TR forums isn't sounding too good. They'll hopefully change that tune once they see sales. I mean, if 6 million copies was disappointing for Squeenix, what possibly made them think this was a good idea unless MS threw a **** ton of money (though you are right, $50+ million would be absurd) at their faces. Just gotta wait and see, like usual.
Dear Tomb Raider Community,
This is a follow-up post in regards to the ****storm that was brought about by our statement that Rise of the Tomb Raider would be an Xbox exclusive. So let me clarify then: it will be a timed exclusive only. After all, in this day and age, making your game exclusive to any one gaming system is nothing short of a death sentence what with the ever-increasing budgets and the variety of platforms available to gamers worldwide. Most importantly, however, we have always desired to bring the adventures of Lara Croft to the widest audience possible and we remain fully committed to that goal. We realize even this news may come as disappointing to all the fans who were eager to play RotTR on release day ad we apologize for that.
The fact of the matter is that the game we are currently working on simply would not have been possible without the support of Microsoft, hence the timed exclusivity. We understand we may pay the price sales-wise but we are willing to make that gamble if it ultimately means delivering the best Tomb Raider experience that we can to all our fans throughout the world and across platforms.
So, yes, Rise of the Tomb Raider will be coming to Xbox One. It will also be coming to PS4 and PC.
We have not given up on you guys.
Please, don’t give up on us either.
Thank you,
Oh, thank God.
E: YOU BASTARD.
