That's pretty much it. TR feels more like an adventure game to me. Much as I love Uncharted, I'm liking TR more because this genre is seriously lacking this gen.

Hopefully with no goddamn multiplayer next time and with achievement lists that don't suck garbage

Cool, I'll give that a try. I haven't backtracked for the nests since I got Orienteering, so that may help. I also still need to go back and get the last effigy that I missed in Shantytown.LPPrince wrote...
Hey mom, if you're still missing the last nest you couldn't find, I think you need to spawn at the Overlook camp and then get on the roof of one of the houses directly below it.
That Solarii Fortress part was pretty hectic, and is what I ended on last night. It took a while to finally reach a camp!

I was like OKAY GAME, I GET IT I HAVE A SHOTGUN
But the bow is just more my style. In reality and in games. I haven't used my pistol in a long time and I haven't used the assault rifle at all. I'm sure when the next boss fight comes up they'll be put to use though. Definitely on whatever/whoever the final boss is. Though I think I already know who that'll be judging by the audio clips I've been picking up and things I've been hearing from the mooks' mouths.

I had to try the propeller out too, because my husband insisted on seeing it.
I actually did pretty well with the parachute and the trees.

I've been pretty impressed with the documents - they really add to the story and feeling of the environment. I highly recommend collecting them.

I've never played any but the first, and then again, what I did play of the first spent jumping around in the mansion and locking the butler in the freezer. (If that was indeed, the first.)
I'm interested in the reboot, and from what I've heard, it's good. But I'd like to here it from here, since the people I've asked aren't really into games, per se. They might have liked it because Lara looked hot and nothing else. So I think here's a better place than any to get an opinion on it.

Oh adding onto simfamSp's question:
Is the game comparable to Far Cry 3 in terms of how Jason evolves into a killer, how it changes him and becomes perhaps even more worse than the pirates themselves.
Free roam island.
Sinister themes in the story such as in Far Cry 3, people like Doug from Bangkok hunt people down all over the world to trick them into visiting Rook Islands to then be sold as sex slaves.
Twisted inhabitants like Resident Evil, Pirates and the privateers from Far Cry 3.
=
I suggest going through the thread to look for recent feels, but it seems positive(minus the quicktime events, but those become less frequent as the game goes on).
I didn't play Far Cry 3, but Lara does change over the course of the game. Starts out young and not used to hardship, sad to kill an animal, having a breakdown after killing her first human, pleading with them to not kill her, that they don't have to do it-
and matures into someone badass who puts down oncoming waves of bad guys because they're in her way.
The island is not free roam. Its basically a bunch of zones that once you're in you can explore at free will, so its a lot like The Witcher 2 and Dragon Age in that sense.
As far as sinister themes- ehh, kinda. Spoilerific.
Twisted inhabitants- yeah, you could say that. Again, spoilerific.
How twisted compared to Far Cry 3? I thought the idea of being sold into sexual slavery is pretty damn terrifying due to the fact that's its possible, AND real. which in my opinion makes Buck more sinister than Vaas, especially his comment 'I like my meat bloody'.

^ Prince is right, you really can't get into any kind of specifics about the sinister/twisted nature without being spoilery. I'd say that the motivation for...things... is very different than any motives Vaas or Buck had in Far Cry 3.
Well I just want to know in your opinion, who are more sinister? Disturbing?

Normally i'm a semi completionist, but i always rush my way to try to complete a game, sitting in front of the computer for 5-6 hours at a time. But with this game it feels right to take my time, walk instead of run, and take in the magnificent scenery (which includes Lara's booty, obviously). 45 Bucks well spent.

As far as Lara's physical body, I've paid no attention to it. She's not something to stare at, and you can tell in the design that they aimed to reduce the attention to her body she might have received just because she's a woman.
I appreciate the realism. She's not some super model, she's just Lara Croft.
A real, lifelike, can be taken seriously Lara Croft.

Its really basic, you know exp raising stuff, stuff that gives you points to spend on upgrades, nothing super special. But its still loot, and the game promotes finding as much of it as possible.
Or all of it.

So loot is good. Loo, loo, looooooooot!!!!!! Last question....how is general exploration? Lots to check out and fairly non-linear? And has anyone found out how long a playthrough is taking your time? Thanks!!
#124
Posté 08 mars 2013 - 06:23
The game world is beautiful. Its pretty linear as far as the story goes- you HAVE to go to a certain place, take a certain path, climb certain rocks to get to the next checkpoint, but barring following the main quest you can free roam whenever you want and loot whatever you can find.
The singleplayer is quite literally made up of- Main Story+Loot Everything Ever
thats it
