If so, it sounds similar to Dark Souls' world design. That would be wonderful.

Is the world open in a sense you can travel seemlessly around without loading areas even if some parts are accessible through one or two paths? Is it sectioned off in loading screens or one whole world?

No, it's quite linear, with many scripted events and QTE's...basically the kind of game design I hate, but this does enough things well to offset it.

But I don't like this dodge counter. You dodge, then can get prompted to stab an enemy with an arrow to the knee. Ugh, such a worn out thing.

Is the story decent?
Not in my opinion. It's a good game, I just wish it was a little less on the rails.

I have a love/hate relationship with that. Apparently the developers call it "gear gating". I get it, but dang, when I went back to the Mountainside Village Overlook, I was shocked to find that all the scavengers had re-spawned. Doh! I got some xp, but all I was looking for was a stupid bird's nest (which I eventually found). As it turns out, I was missing two, so I need to go back to the other area to get the last one. And I found the last effigy in Shantytown, finally.LPPrince wrote...
You should always return to areas you've previously explored as some things you can't pick up till you unlock certain upgrades to your equipment(thus certain areas and loot is inaccessible at times).
I'm now on the beach, and can't get into one of the tombs, because I don't have the right tool to open the door. I did clear the other one (Flooded Vault). Poor Lara kept getting electrocuted until I figured it out. Heh.
Wow, you can really skunk yourself if you don't take your time looking around while in an area. More than once, I've been on a treasure hunt, only to go down the wrong path by mistake, further the story, and not be able to get back to where I was. *sigh*

LOL. I love how she opens this giant box of artifacts at the end of a raid and only takes one thing. I know she couldn't take it all, but still...
She could easliy train the big boy to carry them all,
after dealing with brotherhood and Onis of course.

Funny how it has the same jelly-blood effect like Dead Space 2 & 3.
Some parts reminded me of Descent. A bit. Overall, it seems like a game worth buying. Added to my wishlist, but I'd rather wait till Metro Last Light comes out on May.

Haven't decided about buying it so just watching one of my favorite youtubers' walkthrough. I like how Lara looks so innocent in cutscenes, yet becomes a vicious killer during gameplay. Kinda undermines the character growth. But hey, Jason Brody from FC3 also went through the same path where he started off as a whimpering wuss and became John Rambo soon enough when the the player was allowed to use guns.
I don't really get that impression of Lara at all. She really doesn't want to have to kill these guys, but they're not giving her much of a choice. Even this far (I'm over halfway), she still tries to get them to just talk, and not shoot. Doesn't really work, though.

That sounds like drivel of the uninformed to me. Those people probably haven't even tried the game.Para-Medic wrote...
Indeed. Those guys see her as target practice anyway, so her vicious killings are understandable. I find it amusing how there are a number of gamers who already label her as cold psychotic murderer. But hey, same thing happened with Nathan Drake.
It's funny, because to me, she's the polar opposite of a psychotic murderer. She's not out there killing for sport, or to get her jollies off. She's just trying to survive.
And lolwut? People actually thought that of Nathan Drake? Wow.
