Indeed. Those guys see her as target practice anyway, so her vicious killings are understandable. I find it amusing how there are a number of gamers who already label her as cold psychotic murderer. But hey, same thing happened with Nathan Drake.
It's funny, because to me, she's the polar opposite of a psychotic murderer. And lolwut? People actually thought that of Nathan Drake? Wow.
Most of the time that's the case. Some people just bash stuff before trying themselves. That reaction was most likely caused by cutscene incompetence during the first part where she panics and is clearly shocked by her first kill, but when player is allowed control just scores headshots like a professional killer. Then again, those cultists are all evil trigger-happy crazies who would skin her alive.
Yeah, as ridiculous as it sounds, Drake is considered like this. Just cause he's funny and likeable in cutscenes while kills a thousand or so people during the game.
Heh, just imagine what hate would arise if they had added female enemies.

The combat is pretty fun, but I wished they would have focused on the survival aspect. I was expecting a hardcore metal gear 3 survival mode, but oh well.
The game is VERY gorgeous.

I just spent seventeen minutes spamming Survival Instinct trying to find out what to do on the ship at a certain part of the game. Turns out I had to shoot something down. I felt so stupid. When in doubt, just look up I guess.
Then I'd fall into the water, get impaled on some rocks, reload, then have to kill those two guys. Again.
It was a total facepalm moment for me, too. I mean...Lara actually says out loud 'there it is', and you're like three feet away from it.

Well... now I don't feel as embaressed.
Let's see...... I tried dropping into the ship, jumping off the mast, jumping across the gap to the other side a few times, dropping off the sides of the ship, jumping off of them, I could go on. Only part I've really gotten stuck on so far.

I did a literal shake of the head, an eye roll, and a facepalm when I did finally look up. Good times.

Completed the game yesterday and i got to say it was way better than i had hoped. Personally i loved it and it captured me so well i forgot to eat lunch one day and food is something i pretty much never forget. Better praise is hard to get from me
Me too! You know it's a good game when you even miss food to play it
I genuinely have nothing negative to say about the game. I think everything about it is impressive and well put together. You can see that a lot of care and time has gone into it. From the expansive and detailed environments, right down to her gradually looking more beaten up as you progress. It's amazing and by far the greatest Tomb Raider game to date. They did an incredible job and I couldn't be happier.

Absolutely, when a meal is missed you know it's something really special!
The game just hit that spot in my taste where pretty much everything is the way i'd like this particular title to be. I even spent perhaps an hour just chasing collectibles before i completed the game just because it was actually that much fun. In addition to that i got to see some pretty mindblowing enviroments that i now use as my desktop wallpaper! The way they handled Lara and her looking worse and worse as time went by really worked for me! This game completely revived my interest in the Tomb Raider franchise and i'm very much looking forward to what comes next because chessus will i buy it

Finished it already. On the plus side, the visuals are great, and I enjoyed the transitions between WWII-era bunkers, ancient japanese temples, and even the shanty town. It really looks like an interesting place to explore. Furthermore, I liked how we can see our character evolve physically (bandages, more pouches, more weapons, upgrades, etc.).
On the other hand, most of the narrative felt forced. Almost every time a cutscene plays out you simply know Lara's about to mess up pretty bad and, sometimes, you can't understand why. I remember one situation where Sam was tied to a pole and about to be burned alive. We need to rescue her, right? So what does Lara do? She shoots a guy with the bow. "Okay," I think, "the bow is pretty accurate and we couldn't risk hurting Sam, right? So what are we going to do about the horde that's spotted us?" Apparently, keep shooting arrows at them. The outcome is pretty damn clear, Lara gets captured and they beat the crap out of her. If only we'd had, I don't know, a submachine gun, or a shotgun, or even a pistol to fend off our attackers.
There's a disconnect. We see her beating the crap out of dozens of enemies but when it comes to protecting the people she cares about the most (Roth, Grim, Sam, Alex), Lara becomes a wreck, screaming and crying in self-induced helplessness. Throughout the game, Lara has plenty of opportunies to kill the villain for good only to waste them by passively watching events unfold.
The game's entertaining but it's these kinds of things that take me out of the experience, when the plot is forced to go in a direction simply because it's not long enough as it is.

These are the people she cares about most. In the situation she's in, especially since it came out of nowhere, her mind isn't going to be held together very well. She's not a battle strategist coming up with precise strategies on how best to handle a situation. She just goes with it and hopes for the best, which bites her in the ass at times.
Seems pretty believable to me.

At first, sure, but when it happens every single time it's a bit of a stretch.

It's way overdone though. I know we're all looking for nuanced and strong portrayals of female characters in gaming, but it's not to be found here. I love the gameplay, hate the writing.

Yeah but the game isn't taking place over the course of a few months. As far as I can tell(at the point I'm in so far since I haven't finished) its only been over the course of a day.

other than that, as already mentioned, i really enjoy the brutality, or rather the unrefined, unelegant aspect of combat, seeing as lara is supposed to be a noob of some sort. no dual pistol backflipping here, just desperate scrambles and throwing sand into people's faces, taking any advantage she can get.
