Trust in the modding community to finish the game Gearbox didn't.
Agreed - it's always worth staying alive to the possibility - keeping Oblivion and KOTOR 2 in mind for a start...

I honestly doubt they will fix
anything. Besides what is fixable anyways? They'd have to remake to the
whole game to fix any of the real problems like the crap story, the bad
graphics, the stupid AI and god knows what else. I don't really care if
they fix anything or not, in my opinion they should have to pay in some
way or another which I doubt will happen anyways, they already got away
with false advertising. The same happened with Duke Nukem and they got
away with it.
The best that can be done is to stop buying their
games, which I have never ever done until this game because I thought
since they made Borderlands they had to be doing something right. Guess
not, and I guess those people who claimed Randy Pitchford was nothing
but a conman were right. I really, really wanted to see a good aliens
game, its too bad they screwed it up because this could have really
opened some doors for Gearbox if they had done things right.
I think they must do something if they want to restore their reputation, but there is a good chance they will not, and will leave it hanging.
I agree they need to do this - obviously people are not going to clamour to buy another Aliens game from them, and given they selling FPS's without a huge MP community or story element, so it's no skin off the nose of anyone to just ignore their games if they're going to suck.
Trouble is, I think only MP has a chance of working out now, both in practical terms and because they have to show an ongoing financial incentive to justify spending lots more money on the project, the process of patch admin etc. - they can make fixes to the game during DLC development.
I think harrassment as some people like to do has a completely counter-productive effect on the individuals who are trying to fix the problem - we should want to give people the opportunity to fix stuff, always - BUT I have to say I agree with you on keeping money in pockets etc.
You have to keep the pressure up otherwise companies will sit back and do nothing - ultimately Randy Pitchford may feel bad and want to fix it with all his heart and soul, but it is the businesses that need to be forced to act, because companies have the moral sensibilities of a lamp-post or a shark and nothing the developers feel will force them to do anything.
