Did Gearbox rage?

Guess so.

If this is true, SEGA should sue the heck out of Gearbox.

Lol, I bet Sega are wishing they never cancelled Obsidian's Aliens Action RPG now.

But can someone actually tell me what's wrong with this new Aliens game? I haven't seen much of it but from what I can tell, it seems to be another one of those super AAAction shooter games that usually find a large enough mainstream audience who gobble it up with glee.

I mean, is the issue with the AI or technical glitches, is it with the atmosphere, or is it "dumbed down", or what?

All of the above...

Aliens are getting in queue and wait for you to kill them mostly, even in hardest difficulty, teammates have sub-zero AI too and they just teleport around(which suprisingly has a visiual effect...) best part is enemy human soldiers have decent AI(most of the time)
There are lots of glitches all around like sticking inside walls, zero collision freaks, explosive barrels doing no damage(except us..)
Game is only a boring coridor shooter like this, story, writing and character dialogs are beyond horrible usually. Only one level of game gives some Aliens feeling which we had no weapons and try to survive "zombified aliens" but thanks to terrible AI its really easy.

You can only tolarate game if you are a die hard Alien fan but it leaves  a really sour taste. At least SP campaign is so short (5-6 hours) that we wont suffer a lot.

MP is somewhat OK, but still suffers from bugs and not having any dedicated server(this is spreading like a plague) Most game types are OK but there isnt any horde mode which is a big minus.(though considering AI it maybe is a bonus...)

Edit: Also what Dave of Canada said.

And that is probably also why MP is gonna die out in a couple of months (my guess).

So what exactly was so bad with this game? All I've been hearing about have been bugs.

Anyways, I'm hoping Sega will ask Obsidian to pick the Aliens RPG back up now that Colonial Marines has been a failure for them.

I hope not, somehow I'm sure Sega had a part in this. Why in the world, they are allowed to publish games that have to do with the aliens franchise is beyond me. I haven't seen a good Sega game in years. I think FOX should go to another publisher and one that isn't as bad or worse than them because we all know that there's those special fellows.

Alpha Protocol was amazing, and I've heard really god things about Shogun 2.

Binary Domain, Vanquish, Bayonetta, Condemned: Criminal Origins just to name a few games they did that I thought were good.

That's alright and everything but out of all those I think the only one that got big was Bayonetta. I maybe wrong though, I don't like any of those and I still think that SEGA isn't the best publisher for Aliens. If it were up to me I'd give it to someone else with more capability.

Erm, the Total War games are massive (especially Shogun 2 in terms of sales), they also happen to mosty be pretty good imo - put it this way the publisher has somehow allowed them to become very successful without taking a gigantic steaming **** on the head of the franchise which frankly stands out for a publisher of AAA games.

If everything we have read is true, this is the reward they get - and gearbox has just stung the only publisher out there that just lets a good developer get on with it... for a good 50 million dollars if not more. We as gamers lose out when this sort of thing happens.

Also, gearbox have been excellent at FPS for a long time (opfor!) and it seems likely that they had even remotely directed any effort or focus at this game it would have hit every important note just right (I could say the same about dnf tbh).

I think one thing seems clear - you just can't trust that name to mean they have.

I've been playing Total War games since Shogun 1 and they are awesome! They've always improved on the predecessor. With the slight exception of Empire and Napoleon, which Empire while a bold attempt, didn't quite work out.

Didn't they also get The Dawnof War and Company of Heroes RTS's from THQ and Relic? If they did letting Creative Assembly loose with them would be great!

I think the main fault here is that Gearbox half arsed it (Aliens) and pushed it to the side in favour of Borderlands 2. Because I look at that and the DLC for it and number 1 and think....WTF happend here. Massive game, few bugs, fun co-op, great characters, unique art design, fun quests. Then see what's going on with A:CM and I shout "ERMAGOD! Get it away!!!" :P

Creative Assembly could make amazing things of some of Sega's other properties - let's not forget that Creative Assembly have an Aliens game tucked away somewhere which is apparently "awesome". I **** you not.

Still... Total War! Been playing them since Shogun, too and they rock. Of a weekend in these parts, we tend to have some chill-out time which often involves the Total War games - lots of fun for me, and an invaluable way to get the kids interested in history by subterfuge.

Empire was weird - I think the campaign mode might have been the best of them all, but the battles - who can forget the fun of carefully beating a vastly larger force only to have the pathfinding/order system go nuts and, whatever you do, your whole army runs madly elsewhere, then straggles in one by one to fight the one (1) remaining enemy unit and routs. All the while you trying to cancel/change that. Oh, the rage

My kids tend to prefer Rome - and I'm with them - we have been gradually buying computer bits for Rome II, been studiously avoiding any discussion of quite how much money I've spent on upgrades ;) but I have let them in on the secret that quite often sequels are rubbish, and quite often Total War games aren't great until patched.

My eldest loves Napoleon: Total War due to the historical thrill of fighting Waterloo and has become interested in the Napoleonic Wars and the generals purely because of the game - which is awesome.

I predict (hope) that when Creative Assembly releases their Aliens game it will set right all this nonsense. Fingers crossed. :-)

Wow, I just found this video: www.youtube.com/watch

It seems some people are actually accusing Gearbox of using fully rendered cutscenes instead of actual gameplay for the demo, wich would explain why the visual quality feels so vastly superior.

Yea the video is old but with the comparisons it really just looks unbelievable.

Found this through eurogamer. Aliens Crucible: Animations video aka Obsidian's Aliens rpg.

The animations look good, but I´d really like they did away with the aliens LEGO genetics. All it brings is that Scott had bad ideas back then.

Saddest thing here is how the game is actually selling perfectly fine. Topping charts in UK at least. Please stop pre-ordering games people:( Ultimately it is what makes bull**** moves like this game possible.

Was also in Steam's Top 10 most played games for entire weekend. Unsurprisingly this has stopped being the case now.  Honest-to-god scams like what Gearbox did here would not be possible if people were patient enough to wait like..1-3 days after release before buying. After that, some 2 mins spend on Meta critic is enough to at least  tell you if it is a real game or some bull**** scam move.

People have been waiting for a decent Alien product since AvP 2.

And considering the retcon they did, they could also have explained who and why changed Newt in the cryotube and why Ripley didn´t note any diference.

Yeah, topping the English chart is not really difficulty, every hyped game does it (thanks to preorders, I imagine). A:CM's position next week will tell a lot more.

I know a bunch of people who have bought it to see how bad it is, too! Awesome, huh?

Preorders will aways exist, but is up to us players to realize that in this gaming world full of deceit, trust is no longer possible. Buying a game after release AND players reviews will aways be the safest path.

The studio CEO has decided his best course of action is to display contempt for those who felt cheated when they bought his stinker.

Wow, deja vu for many BSNers. :)

Aye, the ****ing nerve of publishers/developers demanding that we all prove we aren't liars or thieves with accounts and serials and "authorized installs" and disc checks and DRM rootkits and suchlike.

It's them who ought to be proving to us that they aren't lying on a game by game basis.

Gearbox has used up 1 of their "Authorized Crap Games" slots with me. To be fair, BioWare has used up 5 (I didn't buy/play SWTOR so I can't speak to that) so GB are not doing badly.

(I figure it has to be by developer not publisher, since I am not prepared to allow 15-20 slots plus)

I learned this the hard way.

BioWare may have my money. But they didn't earn it.
