I often see people complain about Kroguards or TGIs being used as crutch classes for noobs. What's the problem if someone wants to play a crutch character or weapon?

None. That is the problem. That is why I like them. I feel better when others are playing these characters because I know that my work load will be reduced.

Elitists get pissy if you tie or overtake their score.

Apart from that depends on how much of a noob you really are.

Some players feel the need to engage in 'honorable, sporting combat' with the enemy for some reason... most of these players are on PC.

It's pretty stupid IMO.... it's stupid along the same lines as Gentleman's Combat was stupid hundreds of years ago (guys in bright uniforms standing right in front of each other all lined up shooting/reloading muskets).

Some people want to feel superior to others, will most likely be shat on in the real world so they need something!! Bad players will be bad using any class. Easier to ignore the elitist knobs and their hangers on and just enjoy the game using any class/wep combo you like

It's just a sign of being less skilled, and some people have problems with low skill players.

Personally I don't really care what characters are most often played because it's "OP". I've noticed it's the player not the class largely. Even the Harrier for example- only *I* can make it work like a damn water gun vs the monster it's supposed to be. I for some reason just cannot use my Harrier IV and score really well. :|
Everyone has crutch characters whether they realize it or not- it may not be the standard kit that everyone kvetches about endlessly on BSN but there is probably a kit or two that most people feel most comfortable using. I know for myself it is the Human Adept (the vanilla) I can use her w/out even thinking and do just fine on Plat usually. Any other kit? Well then that isn't my forte and I better be playing at my utmost best to keep up with the rest of my team.
This is my own failing and I'm trying to expand my horizons kit wise lately and actually attempt some of those "OP crutch classes" everyone complains about because I have never been able to weild them with the same ability as my HA or SI.

Basically- people love to complain and certain people are just elitists IMO.

People should be able to play what they want.

Nothing. There are like 5 people on the forums who get bent out of shape by someone less skilled at killing space monsters getting a decent fraction of the points.

EDITED: removed 'outscored' as usually a crutch class is not enough to outscore such leet pro mlg master gamers.

Liking a certain class means your less skilled? There's no room there for people who just, you know, like Turians, Infiltrators and assautl rifles?

Some people like a challenge, like dance with brutes or banshees. Then some GI joins, melting everything in 2 seconds. Bye fun, it's like beating up a 5y/o (lol).
Don't respond with something like, play solo if you want a challenge.

That damn Harrier.  My first UR weapon, and my first to III (besides the Valkyrie), and I still can't use it the way I hear it described.  I think I just am not good at ARs. =/

I could care less what classes people play as long as they contribute to the group objectives.

Personally I like to play as each class and change things up for variety and to learn new fun builds. If people don't want to have as much fun as I have when I do this that is their loss.

I don't care if other people use them, but I choose to rarely use them unless soloing. They make Gold too easy, and I prefer a bit of challenge.

That said, if a lobby has two Ghosts in it, I'm likely bail, for the same reason. I still want some challenge.

If the class is just easy to use, but not OP then there is nothing wrong with it. I personally like using all the classes for the variety.

If the class is OP well...

I get pissed when my grenade class can't find grenades because the TGI needed his noob packs to stay alive.

Also, balance.

Is it fair that I do less damage with overload on my Human Engineer + Power Amplifier III specced for power damage than a TGI with no equipment and specced for weapon damage ? Hell no.

The bolded was important. It's a hint, not some sort of immutable fact of the universe.

Nothing wrong with using whatever kit/weapon you like. It's good to use a strong class until you are comfortable with the difficulty you are playing on. Whenever I play Platinum I use a GI or something equally strong because I don't play a lot of Platinum.

The only problem I have would be if people using these so called "crutch" characters started bragging about how l337 they are.

GI can see through walls. Makes it as much of a crutch class as any other, but it seems to be favored by 'the elite'.

No its because most of our AR's suck compared to the other weapons we have. The Harrier is literally the only AR anyone bothers talking about- but heh- call me super stupid I'll take my Avenger X over it

....and that's why Gold sucks. Only room for 1-2 real killers.... Gold with 4 good players = bronze.

Using one of those classes doesn't give you a default win. I've seen plenty of people using them who were terrible.
