Sure, Alienware keyboards look pretty, but they get really annoying when games are made to mess with the lighting on them.  Rapid flashing rainbows get old really fast.

Haven't played Dota, but I do have Magic: The Gathering 2013.  It makes my keyboard flash varying colors like mad.  I looked for a setting in-game to shut it off, but I couldn't find one unfortunately.  Oddly, it also completely deactivates my keyboard at specific points during my turn.  I can't even ctr + alt+ del if it freezes at the wrong time.

I think I spent a sum total of ten minutes in that game Cowwy   LOL. The main reason I have it is my brother (who is also an avid gamer) gifted the beta to me on Steam so I felt obligated to check it out at least. Then once I entered the queueing for a match I saw what was happening and became a bit pensive about the level of play . I would have been below newb, below n00b, below tadpole, I would have been gum on the bottom of their shoes given I know squat about playing a hybrid what..arena RTS like that. Those dudes are SRS BSNS up in there. I even subbed to a youtube learning channel for that game and then had a reality check and decided yeah I'm all about learning curves for different things but Dota 2? Hell no.

Awesome, that worked.  I'd always just assumed that fully shutting it of would be a bit of work, and I usually like having the backlighting, so I never bothered trying.

That was my experience as well, which is specifically why I queued for a game against bots, so I figured it would be easy and I could ease my way into the game.

Nope. Our whole team got roflstomped by bots to the point where the whole team quit the match. It was about 45 minutes of sheer torture and that made me not want to play the game anymore.

LOL omg, I'm glad I didn't get into a match like you did. That is sheer torture being so enormously outclassed that you don't even have a chance like a ice cube in hell on judgement day. My brother did get on my laptop when he visited and smurfed my account :innocent: I was lmao as he was indicating to me how you could tell when people were smurfing in that game- golly gee. A totally different world in gaming that's for sure.

 Here's the rest of my gaming room.  There is also a mini fridge and popcorn maker to the right of where my desk is that wouldn't fit in the pic.  You can just barely see my youngest's monitor at the bottom left.  In all, 5 PCs (4 desktops and a laptop).  My 3 kids can all game with me, or they do their minecraft while I hang with BSN on Mass Effect 3 MP.

There are very few games that I've had that kind of experience in, and most of those came from when I was younger and not as hardcore of a gamer. Now I'm usually relatively confident going into most games that I'll be able to pick up on what to do to not get completely trashed. I felt like I was 10 years old again trying to play an RTS.

Thanks.  I built it myself.  I have to use two window AC units in the summer if all computers are running.  In the winter, I only use a space heater a couple hours in the morning since most of the time it is 75-79 F even with the window cracked and sub-freezing temps outside.  I used to have my xbox 360 in there too, but have moved it back to my 50" plasma since I switched over to ME3 on PC.

all those things help but i would only feel thats safe if i had a motion activated tranquilizer turret, it shoots, they fall asleep, they wake up it shoots again
