I've never had any issues (performance or otherwise) with my AMD machines. Last time I had an issue with a CPU was a Cyrix... I think it was a 586-compatible CPU? I forget. This was before CPUs came with coolers, and this one NEEDED a cooler. I ended up having the case open and a desk fan blowing on the thing (:

I think for some of my applications, AMD's 8-cores would work slightly better than Intel's 4-cores+threads. But I really don't know that I'd see a huge difference. Loads of RAM always help, too.

agreed, i got 8gigs of ram installed with the option for more if needed. that almost picks up any slack not that i need it, intel quad core with 8 gigs of ram. i cant think of any program needing that much crazy.

Firefox open too long?

I have 20gb of ram, my mb has 6 slots and I had a 6gb(3x2) kit then bought a 16gb(4x4) I admit it is overkill but I wanted more than 6gb :P

If only I had a camera, I would share.

Buuuuut my case is a Thermaltake MSI-Commander Epic Edition. I have front and bottom red LED 120mm intake fans, side and back red LED 120mm exhaust fans (side one being over my overclocked Radeon HD 7870s in Crossfire), two slim 120mm top fans mounted above my Hyper 212 EVO (one intake onto the front of it, one exhaust above / behind it), three 40mm fans mounted in a 5.25" bay (feeding air to the Hyper 212 from the front), and two CM Excalibur 120mm fans on the Hyper 212 EVO. All running very silent, on lowest settings, thanks to a fan speed controller.

The fans keep my i5-3570k running at around 72C with a Prime95 torture test, overclocked at 4.5GHz. That's while remaining silent.

Have a dvd drive, two Velociraptor 300GB 10,000 RPM hard drives in RAID0, and a SanDisk ReadyCache SSD, so a total of 6 cables between those 4.

There is a wireless adapter sticking out of the back of the case, as well as a wired connection.

Also have a 2m red LED strip running around the edges, inside the case, which requires a 4-pin power connector. I know, it's a Christmas tree. I regret nothing.

All of this while remaining very clean in the case, thanks to wire ties and wire tie mounts, as well as tucking cables into hidden areas of the case.

But most importantly, I have this sticker on the top of the case, in red.

As for my actual desk, I have a black glass L-shaped corner desk with a Razer Anansi / Razer Naga, 21.5" 1080p monitor (small for 1080p, but the pixel density is great), Genius SW-G2.1 1250 speakers (subwoofer under desk), and a red/black gooseneck mic.

Oh, and a mesh pencil cup. Yeeeeah.

And my desktop layout on Windows 8:

Hidden utility bar that pops up when highlighted...

Fancy zoom effect...

Image IPB

The old style Start menu when the white window is clicked...

And my Windows 8 metro interface when the blue window is clicked, or the windows key is pressed...

I just got 16g Corsair Vengeance 2x8 in yesterday and my AMD FX 8150 should here tomorrow. I have a PNY GTX 550Ti, a TB HDD, a Gigabyte 990FXA UD3 mobo, and a CM Storm Trooper to house it all.

I don't have nearly enough geek/gamer paraphernalia, in fact, I don't have any. I seriously need to visit the BioWare store and perhaps get some FF7 and 8 stuff as well.

The black and white one is better.  Thanks to Bryan though, I'm not sure I would ever get anything other than a Raven model Silverstone now (the RV03 to be exact).

NZXT does have some damn fine cases too though now that I had another glance at their website.

Well, here's my current set-up. I have to pull the computer out of the cupboard to take a photo, and I can't be bothered at the moment. ^_^. There are usually two extra fans mounted in the cupboard and turned on if I have the door shut, to maintain air-flow through it, it get's really damn hot in there otherwise. <_<

This is my desk, with multiple toys:

This is my TV, also with multiple toys:

Here are all the remotes that control them all, both the Sony remotes can control the other:

And here's a panorama to give you an idea, it's looking from the doorway:

I actually don't have a desktop...computer or otherwise.

However, my laptop is a rather strong gaming computer with 8gb RAM, i7 quad core, Terabyte HDD, 17" HD screen, with what was the most up to date Radeon Graphics card as of January 2011 (can't remember the exact branding).

Accessories include my RAT 7 mouse, TurtleBeach headset, Goliathus (L) mousepad, and a cooling lap "pad" with two fans to help keep it cool during extended sessions.  Probably nothing as fancy or intricate as what's already been posted, but everything I play on my laptop looks beautiful and plays masterfully.

I also have a 360 which is my primary gaming system.  I have a picture with the only thing unable to be seen is my 37" tv (standard def).  I also have a Wii, but literally, haven't turned it on in 4 years (I need to though since I’ve had TLoZ: Skyward Sword for a year now—just so many games without enough time to play them all and Mass Effect 3 MP eating up a large amount of my gaming time).

really diggin the alienware keyboard. pretty:o

Sure, Alienware keyboards look pretty, but they get really annoying when games are made to mess with the lighting on them.  Rapid flashing rainbows get old really fast.

Not much point showing mine, as it is pretty much the same as that one anyways.

I've never had a game mess with my keyboard lighting scheme- oh wait I did- it was Dota2. But can't we disable that?!

I was so thrilled when I realized ME3MP has the built-in option to turn AlienFX off when in-game.  Totally worth using, especially if you play with laptop shut like I do when at home.

How do you like the RAT 7? I was looking at the RAT 3 but so many people had conflicting reviews regarding its build quality. I'm planning to order a CM Storm Spawn (far left) Image IPB

I had an MX518 and now G400 (same thing) but they are both too big for me, I prefer a claw/finger grip.

Maybe have a look at the Razer Mamba? I'm currently using one, and it is a HUGE improvement over what I had. It can be either wired or wireless. That's just me though... B)

Is there any practical task for a desktop PC or even a high end gaming rig that requires overclocking to such a degree that you need water cooling?

I can play Crysis at maximum settings at 1920x1600 without having to resort to anything remotely that fancy.

If a studio wants to be able to sell a game, it will have to run on the xbox, which is 7 or 8 years old by now, so nothing out there that I'm aware of really taxes a 2013 CPU and video card...
