Is Omega or Leviathan worth checking out?

Omega was fun, but, as mentioned before, you have to be a big Aria fan or enjoy the game's combat system to get your money's worth.

Omega I didn't buy, and probably won't from what I've read around here.

Leviathan is really good. It has an excellent investigative mood and the missions are mostly well-made. The backstory of the Reapers is ok. Perhaps not the best I could imagine but ok.Missy_MI wrote...
I haven't played ME3 since the Extended Cut, but lately I've been missing the game a bit. Well, I suppose missing the atmosphere and characters would be a more accurate statement. So I'm thinking about purchasing the Omega or Leviathan DLC this weekend and diving back in again for awhile.
For those of you who've already played them, what did you think? Are the stories pretty decent (without too many spoilers please). Would you recommend one over the other? Should I run screaming instead?![]()
Omega has excellent level design. It doesn't happen every day that I stop to look at things in the middle of a mission. Story is ok, Petrovsky is a refreshingly competent enemy and I like the options in the end, though the option to take Omega from Aria is sorely lacking. The only minus is the price tag. And if you *really* dislike Aria, perhaps this is not for you.
If you aim to get only one, Leviathan should be your choice because of the added Reaper backstory. But I recommend both, unless you have a policy of not buying DLC which may be a tad too expensive for what it gives you.

About the DLC-s: I enjoyed both for different reasons for they offer very different things.
Leviathan:
IMO it's a must have. To me it's one of the best, if not the best ME dlc so far. Very, very story, lore and exploration oriented. It gives a (IMO quite good) reaper origin story. So if you enjoyed the reapers, what they are, what they do and why they do what they do, or want to get more context for the reaper lore (and the Catalyst) you should get it. Those who hate the ending or say that the reaper lore is pure stupidity will think the same about this one. And no, it does not raise more (unexplainable) questions: actually it is more of an answer to some questions. And don't forget, every story has some mystery to it, which gives way for some mind work and speculation.
There's not so much shooting in it: it's more about conversations, character and story moments. Has a generally slower, calmer, quieter approach and more mysterious-spooky rythm than the rest of the game (except for one of the locations which is pretty much a mayhem). The level design (it has lots of soul and ambiance) and the sound design is top notch. You also have lots of squad interactions, banter in it. No major choices though.
genre-wise: X-files
my verdict: 9/10
Omega:
Despite what many say, I enjoyed the hell out of this one too, except its price (a bit overpriced, but won't make you starve). It's a lot more action oriented. Basically it's about the fight for Omega. Don't expect any new ground breaking revelation or lore-extention in it. But there's a lot of meat in there no matter what others say. Actually LoTSB is not so different form this one storywise: it's the same genre and its just as action and character (Liara) focused without big revelations (oh, yeah the Shadow Broker turns out to be a yagh who dwells in a starship hidden from sight... and lots of James Bondish chasing, shooting and fist fights...)
Back to Omega: it has very nice character moments, since it is revolved around two things: Aria's and her old associate's character (you might even have an impact on Aria's personality) and the huge mining pirate station (it is huge, has a very good atmosphere and wibe). The level design is one of the best in the whole trilogy: very spectacular. It has some sound issues and glitches here and there though. It also introduces two new enemies (both I enjoyed very much) and shows a different side of Cerberus via general Petrovsky. Also there's quite a difference between the renegade and paragon playthrough which shows at its ending.
genre-wise: Total Recall
my verdict: 7/10
I like them both, but it's up to you to decide whether you're interested in them or not.

About Leviathan: It contains a lot of Answers on how the ending works, you could consider it as an attempt of fixing it and making it feel less out of place. If you like conspiracy theories about the ending such as IT, I recommend it since you'll find a lot of interesting stuff there. It is mainly a story DLC, the characters don't really matter.
About Omega: First off, if you didn't know already, your Normandy squaddies are not present there, and the DLC is completely isolated from the rest of the game. Other than Leviathan, it is not really relevant to the main story, but it offers some fun gameplay and intersting levels in return. Plus, the two temporary squaddies you gain on Omega are really worth a look if you are mainly interested in characters like I am. For me, they are the major value in that DLC, it is too bad that they are not permanent.

I bought Omega as well and while I didn't actively dislike it, I didn't really like it either; it was just sort of there. If you're a fan of the combat system and/or Aria, you'll probably like it. There's some story, but it's largely sidelined for action; the main Cerberus antagonist is interesting but not enough is done with him. I've only completed it twice or so and kind of regret buying it in the first place.

Omega on the other hand is an excellent combat DLC. However, it is isolated in the ME universe. In fact, you cannot even visit Omega after you complete it and that has a lot of people frustrated with this DLC. Further, the story line to Omega was truncated, but you get to see Aria in full witch mode (wanted to use the word that begins with "B" and rhymes with itch, but the filters...) and that is pretty impressive. However, like Jack, she is far more impressive in the cuts, but unlike Jack, she doesn't drop dead like a sack of bricks in play. On the up side, you actually feel like you are in a war with Cerberus and one of it's best leaders rather than the normally incompetent Kai Leng. Finally, you see a female Turian in game and get to interact with her.
If you are a completionist, then you will need the Leviathan DLC in order to experience the full context of mass effect, but the Omega DLC is purely optional because it pulls you out of the game in order relay the story.
Hope this helps you and anyone else better evaluate your purchase.

Omega really isn't worth it's price tag. It's alright I guess but I don't find it adds much to the game at all.

Omega is IMO over priced but if you start it right after the Cerberus coup attempt mission, it improves pace of game a lot.
