What is with the hate for MP? MP can be awesome. By generalising all MP games as not worth it you are doing yourselves a great disservice.

I'm not saying that all MP is crap. Mostly it's not really my cup of tea. I enjoyed MP in ME3 for a while, but it got really stale fast. My issue with it in DA3 is mostly that the series has done fine thus far without it. I think at worst, it's a waste of man hours and resources spent developing it when instead they could be put towards optimizing the single-player experience.

I'll give it a shot when DA3 comes out, but I'm not expecting to be blown away. I'll be pleasantly surprised if I am, but even then, the appeal of a new Dragon Age game is the single-player experience. As a console player, I'm not even enough of an achievement hound to actually care whether I have all of the achievements in any given game I own, let alone MP achievements. The only game I have 100% achievements for is The Walking Dead, and that one's pretty much impossible to finish without getting them all anyway.

I'm not so sure it takes up as many resources to add in as people think. If the game is to launch with Multiplayer I'm pretty sure EA can extend a higher budget to the Bioware crew.

I don't know about achievements I ignore them in 99% of the games I play.

And would the budget increase be enough to actually cover MP?  Or would features hae to be cut from elsewhere to make up the difference?

I was strongly against ME3 multiplayer when it was announced, but when I got hands on with it I enjoyed it immensely and still enjoy now. That's why I'm keeping an open mind, I'm not going to jump to any conclusions until I've actually played it.

Short version: Fingers crossed.

We don't need it, but EA demands it. If anything it might turn out like ME3 MP, saving the game from it's SP counterpart.

That's kind of what I worry about. The world is full of games where the single player campaign is just a glorified tutorial and the meat of the game is multiplayer and the Mass Effect franchise seems to be going in that direction. If I remember correctly the next Mass Effect game is going to be developed by the people who made the multiplayer and Mass Effect 3 had an absolutely terrible single player campaign compared to ME2 but general conscientious is that it was redeemed by the multiplayer side of the game.

At this rate it seems like the next Mass Effect game is going to be a straight cover-shooter with a huge emphasis on multiplayer and a paper-thin plot. I'm gussing it will be called Mass Effect: Spectre-Ops or something like that and while it might be a lot of fun it's just not the sort of game I would play.

As a person who really enjoys long involved single player campaigns in roleplaying games I really don't want to see more franchises go the way of Mass Effect.

I actually don't mind ME3's multiplayer. It is fun and keeps me content with the game until new DLC comes out for it. I do still play the singleplayer in ME3 and will continue to do so now that I have all three games. As for DA, I'll keep an open mind on multiplayer. I can see some concepts being really fun (ie playing alongside others in a party). But I can also see how it could be bad, most of them to do with what the OP has mentioned.

I fear that war assests will become the certain trend for Bioware/EA video games..

I refuse to judge the multiplayer until I try it. When ME3 MP was announced I was saying that I'd never play it and that it'll be awful; turns out, it's one of my favorite MP games ever.

If the "normal" game is good ... why not? I like ME multiplayer, I loved NWN multiplayer too. I just can't get rid of Bioware's worlds.

i dont mind multiplayer being apart of the game.. as long as the focus is still the single player.. the problem is with ME, they had multiplayer actually affect the single player. if they get rid of that idiotic system.. ill be fine with it.

but multiplayer has been in RPGs before (the original neverwinter nights) and many other games before and it worked fine. also, be honest.. if the resource system DIDNT affect single player AT ALL, would you have cared? i wouldnt have.

NWN also suffered due to the fact it was designed from the ground up as a multiplayer game. The mechanics were focused more toward MP, you couldn't form your own party, and the story was mediocre at best. Compared to Baldur's Gate (or even Icewind Dale) it was pretty sad.

i personally really liked the NWN story.  wouldnt call it epic like the original KOTOR or anything, but it was good.  i really enjoyed the single-player.  and i wouldnt say that the mechanics were focused around multiplayer.. but they did expect you to use your henchman.

regarding NWN multiplayer, i just remember hearing about it going on years after the game's release.  not everyone may like the multiplayer in NWN, but apparently a lot of people did.

also, even with ME3, the multiplayer itself i hear is actually pretty decent (i have the 360 version and despise xbox live so no multiplayer for me).  its just the stupid resource system I have a problem with.  and if you are one of those that still hates the endings. .ask yourself this, would they have been there if multiplayer wasnt in the game.  wanna know the answer?  its YES.

So, you will stop crying that EA shut down Westwood, Origin and other PC Studios since it was a different era and different development team, as well as different management?

After all, that was over ten years ago under a different regime, it has no bearing, IMO, in any discussion about EA's "evil crimes."

And  comsumers are always entitled.

Do you really want to go back and forth like children, Rawgrim? I think its beneath you and me to do so.

They played it safe and just copy/pasted Gears of War's horde mode. If this was the plan all along, I question their judgement.

Could be because it was more of an experiment. We weren't expecting it to be as popular as it is.

Hypothetically speaking, if there was a time for experimenting, DA3 is not the greatest of games to do with, all hypothetical of course but i'd secure the franchise with a solid 3rd installment to gain fans forgiveness of DA2 and then experiment with DA4 than experiment with something as controversial as multiplayer in the type of game DA is...All hypothetical tho, dunno if there even is multiplayer :/

Well if DA3, has Multi, that means it's probably going require Origins.  Which case, DA2, just like ME2, will be last game I'll play from Bioware(Well technically SWTOR MMO, for 5 months).

I(unlike most who say this), do actually speak with my wallet.  Never bought Mass Effect 3, I won't buy Dragon Age 3, if it requires something I do not want.

We shall see.

orgins is pretty much steam v .2 beta.its buggy and in general annoying. and doesn't really have any games worth buying. its mainly only because of how EA deicdied to do its DLC instead of allowing a format to pay with real money to get DLC. instead go though a money changing scheme to get the DLC

honestly the last time I had to buy "points" the company folded up without allowing me to get my money back. (APB anyone?)
