Hello all,

I have a question regarding surveying planets and finding elements. What exactly is done with them? This is my first time playing ME1 since I own a PS3 so I just want to be given a heads up. Does it give me experience? Will help me create things like in ME2? Let me know.

Thanks

It gives you experience and money. Also alliance has access to more resources. The higher your character level the more exp and cash u get. Notice that when you kill everything with mako u get few exp. If u kill enemies on foot (i.e weaken enemies with mako, get out of tank and finish them on foot u get more exp). You may want to download planet maps from wiki on ur pc so u can follow it in game. If you want to look for resources, etc by yourself it may take you up to 30-50 mins per side-planet.

Alos if you import your ME1 save to ME2, you'll get bonus resources right at the start. And mining is much more tedious in ME2 than ME1 :D

Related question, do found resorces beyond the required amount for the "precious minerals" quest count to the import?

I hope that was scarcasm; ME 2 blows the first game out of the water with mineral/resource finding.

Strange. I have just imported a Shep from ME1 to ME2 and I did lots of prospecting and I didn't get any bonus resources. All of my other Sheps that I imported did, but not this latest one.

Well, i'm one of the very few people who love the Mako ^_^

But i also prefer the one-click planet scanning to ME2's sweeping, so much so that i just use a save editor to give me the needed resources rather than find them myself.

ME3 has a good compromise between those two.

Wow, I totally didn't know that you get more experience while on foot. Makes sense when I think about it, but thanks for the tip!! I'll definitely do that from now on.

Also, I agree that the "survey planet" for resources for ME1 is way better than how ME2 surveys. However, I am still getting used to the Mako so not sure if I reached a final verdict yet.

And you guys helped me answer the "what happens to resources question. =)

Slightly off topic, but since the resources question has been answered....

I'm a huge fan of the Mako but to be honest I found the planet scanning mini-game in ME2 to go a hell of a lot quicker than driving all over a map designed by someone on a terrifying acid trip to find what looks like a giant elephant turd and then have to do the frogger mini-game to "mine" it. The ME2 mineral scan I actually found too bland even to complain about, and the neutered version in ME3 seems like a pointless hybrid of ME2 and the instant scan-the-planet-for-your-prize of the ones in ME1 that you can't land on. Frankly none of the games are all that satisfying and resources and artefacts would have been better being random drops, built into mission stories and available in stores as an alternative to guns/mods/armour.

You don't get a bonus from mineral scanning. Your bonus is based on the level your character is that you import and if you beat ME2 previously.

Well, I imported two characters from ME1 at the same level.  One got the extra credits and resources, and one didn't.  So unless it's a glitch, it isn't about levels either.  And I've beaten ME2 several times....

Oh  Well, that'll save me time in the future.
