Is this origin story interesting?  I am going to start it today and I just wanted others opinions on it.

Sure it's interesting. Depends on how you like to roleplay I guess.

Well, it is kind of bland, but there is more lore than the others. A fair trade off.

At least that is what I think.

I share Herr Uhl's opinion. It's hard to care about the people like you do in the other origins, but you also get some insight into elven history and some information on the Darkspawn. It's also the only Origin that took me somewhat by surprise.

Always form your own opinion before listening to other peoples.

I probably didn't like it as much as the other origins, but it's not like you lose a lot by playing through it!

Then switch your opinion to the most popular one. It's the human way.

Or the least popular one to be a rebel.

Thanks for the comments. I wanted to make a rogue archer and this origin story made sense, plus I haven't played it yet. I personally like the Nature of the Beast quests a lot so I think I may like the Dalish Origin. Plus I always cure the curse of the Werewolves and Fight Zathrian, so this time being a Dalish Elf, I will fight Witherfang. This Character is going to be so much fun. Problem is I got my other 2 characters sitting waiting to do the Landsmeet but I want to start this one now.

If you want to be an archer definately go Dalish, at the very beginning you are using a bow.

Thats what I heard. Plus an Elf from the forest being an Archer....thats about as classic as you get. Thinking about going as Ranger/Bard or Ranger/Duelist.

I have a dalish archer, ranger/duelist which rocks. More than 400 damage with Arrow of Slaying :o (lvl 24). And she's quite ok with melee too.

I haven't finished the Origin all the way but I loved Tamlen.

@Erakleitos - I'm trying to so hard to keep one of my elves in Archery but Duel Wield always looks at me with those puppy eyes.

I am currently playing the Dalish PC (trying to create a Warrior/Archer -Mage Killer); it is interesting to interact as an elf (versus human noble) and get entirely better understanding of Elven culture background, society status etc. Leliana stating that Elves are valued servants for Orlias Nobles for example

I agree with Herr Uhl as well: the lore makes this origin worth the playing, even though the excitement factor is less than with other origins.  I think it sets you up nicely for roleplaying the rest of the game.

But then, I'm biased: as you'll note from my profile my current avatar is the third Dalish elf I've played!

I had a lot of fun with my Dalish character. Especially if you like to think through an RP approach to various situations, having a Dalish encountering all these human ups and downs makes for much thought-provoking play. The origins story leaves a loose end or two hanging, but at least one big one will be resolved by late in the game. Plus there is just something poetic about the hero of Ferelden being a Dalish elf.

This was my set-up as well.  The Ranger specialization is especially apropos with a Dalish character, IMO.  I always imagine Alistair and Morrigan seeing her summon a wolf for the first time and going "whoa, she can do that?"  Heh.

Plus it is just too awesome to have a little elf woman in Dalish midriff armor kick. Loghain's. ass. in that duel.

Oh, and smooches to the writers for allowing us the opportunity to respond to Cailan's chirpy greeting with "I'm no friend of yours, human lord."  BANZAI!  I imagine I gave Duncan heartburn with that one.  LOL

The Dalish Elf was my favorite origin because I had my Dalish planned out before the game even came out. :) So I guess that made it more emotionally empacting for me (I almost cried when my character was forced to leave her clan!).

I finally got it started. Its working out so far. If I get rushed I tend to switch to melee weapons, but thats no big deal for me. I am scared that when I do the fade in the circle tower, I may have some difficulty.

It seems to me to be the only origin where your character actually hugs another character? Probably to emphasise the close-knit nature of the Dalish I suppose.

Dalish elf is, in my opinion, one of the most moving of the origins. Especially as you go to leave your clan.

My first dalish had to be dragged out of her clan by Duncan and I was just about sobbing as the keeper watched me and I stalled for a last few days for the funeral.. they were effectively burying TWO of you, and you were pretty much there for your own funeral as far as the clan was concerned. That and you could never go back, never get to see your clan again... might not even get to see the forest again and have to go out and live with the shems.

I think the dwarven and human nobles did a little more than hugging in theirs, but point taken.

My dalish would've so loved to punch the priestess in the face for calling her a heathen when my elf stated that 'your religion is not my religion'.

Tamlen... I liked him, but oh what a heartache later on in the game... Won't say more, or it's a spoiler.
